"There's cold water in the fridge if you'd like some," he said, already making his way to the fridge.
"Sure, thanks," Kenzie said softly. She reached into a cupboard for a couple of plates, then piled eggs on them. "I'm going to put breakfast on the table, now. Anything else you want?"

One minute she would be okay and able to do things, the next minute her over-active imagination would kick in again and she'd see her mom, bleeding and broken. She wiped her eyes and took another deep, shuddering breath.

Kenzie accidentally put her hand down on the prongs of a fork, thereby stabbing her hand and making the fork fling away. She cried out in shock and pain, holding her hand to her chest and biting her lip hard. Sitting in the chair closest to her, she let the tears just fall from her face, not even caring about the pain from her hand.

Hunter narrowed his eyes and snatched up Kenzie’s bleeding hand, leading her to a cabinet and taking out the first aid kit. Without saying a word, he pulled out some cotton and a bottle of disinfectant and began to dab it over Kenzie’s wound, bandaging it up when he was done. He pressed a gentle kiss to the bandaged wound before capturing Kenzie’s lips with his.

Kenzie let Hunter kiss her, but she couldn't do anything herself. She felt numb, so she just stood there without doing anything.
