"That's not our problem." Cade mumbled, knowing that the others would think he was insensitive.

"Well it's mine," Breeze walked out and began searching for any signs of life.

Riann shot him a look and started walking down one of the streets, her hands skimming across the layers of sand. It was a deep orange. Dust Land orange.

For once, Cade regretted going bare foot. The warm sand burned his feet, but he ignored it.

Felix nodded and stepped away, brushing off his guard uniform. Top rank, as the black overcoat stated. There was a time when he was proud of that.

"Dust Lands." Riann muttered, looking towards the distance. Her parents had always told her stories about it. The Lost Cities were there, where 'terrible' people lived.

"Dust lands?" Felix asked, walking up to stand next to her.

Breeze could feel it in the air, "This wasn't natural. There's magic in the air."

"Dust lands…" Cade repeated. The name rang a bell, but he wasn't sure where he'd heard it before.

"Dust lands?" Felix asked, walking up to stand next to her.

"My parents always told me that the Dust Lands were off limits. Dangerous things happened there." Riann explained, looking towards him. "Caspia- a senator had told me that a traveling kingdom ruled over the Dust Lands, killing everyone on sight." She finished, faltering on her brother's name.

"Would they have sent a sandstorm towards us?" Cade asked Riann, looking off into the distance as if he'd be able to see the far off 'Dust Lands'.

"Wouldn't doubt it," Breeze reached down and bottled up some of the sand.

"Hey." Felix put an arm around her waist, "One day you'll overthrow Caspian and I can be your personal guard, watching over you and the king-consort. If you're going to have one, at least." he poked her side, a twinkle in his eye.

Cade rolled his eyes at Felix. He thinks he's so subtle…why doesn't he just ask her out already? He shook his head, sighing.

"I doubt I'll manage to get one." Riann said as looked up at him, trying to stifle a laugh.

"Would they have sent a sandstorm towards us?" Cade asked Riann, looking off into the distance as if he'd be able to see the far off 'Dust Lands'.

"They could have possibly. I've never been there." She sighed, looking towards the desolate area beyond Sonora.

"Maybe you will." he smiled, looking off into the distance.

Alyssa looked around, jaw clenched. She slid down onto the ground and into a criss-cross position, putting her hands on her knees. Then she closed her eyes and listened.

Breeze walked towards them, "I've been there. They definitely sent this here. No doubt an attempt to encroach on the kingdom."

Cade looked over at the girl sitting silently on the ground. "What the hell are you doing?"

Without opening her eyes, Alyssa answered, "I'm listening." She said calmly.

He stood silently for a few seconds, but heard nothing interesting. "To what?"

"To the wind. And for people that could have been trapped under the sand."

"You're wasting your time. You won't be able to hear them from here."

They would have suffocated by now. The average human can hold their breath for two minutes. Riann thought, but she didn't say anything. She continued to watch, looking for any signs on the horizon.

Alyssa sighed. "You don't know me." She said to Cade as she stood up, taking off towards the square.
