Jay led them back out onto the road. Blythe frowned. "Why are we walking on the road? It'll make us walking targets."
Jay looked over at Delia for a moment. "Her leg's busted. The road is easier."
Jay led them back out onto the road. Blythe frowned. "Why are we walking on the road? It'll make us walking targets."
Jay looked over at Delia for a moment. "Her leg's busted. The road is easier."
"You guys could walk in the woods alongside the road, that way only I'm the walking target," Delia suggested, looking over at the two of them. It was much easier to walk along the smooth surface, she didn't have to worry about tripping as much or falling over, "I can handle walking by myself, I'm not defenseless."
Jay looked at her. "I don't mind walking with you." he said, blinking slightly.
She nodded, then motioned over at Blythe with her head, "She's not wrong with saying it makes us more of a walking target though." Delia settled into a rhythm as she got used to walking on the road again, now only having to look out for abandoned cars, not trees and rocks.
Jay shrugged his shoulders, staying near her. "So? If I die, everybody else is safer."
Blythe rolled her eyes, shaking her head.
"Remember this thing about me finding a way to get onto that ship in the sky and saving you from going haywire?" She replied, looking over at him as she walked, "So no more saying everyone is safer without you. I would be dead three times over if you were dead."
Jay blinked. "But everyone would be safer without me and the others like me."
"What, so you think we should all die?" Blythe sniped at him, frowning.
"You think I would be safer without you? Busted leg and all?" She asked, glancing between him and the road to make sure the path was clear, "And as Blythe said, you think everyone like you and her should die?"
Jay shrugged a little bit. "I mean…yeah. In the end, you will be safer without me." he shook his head a little bit, running his hands through his hair.
Delia just rolled her eyes, looking over at him to make sure he saw the look on her face, "You don't know that for sure. I'll find a way to get rid of the psyco thing in your head, that way you can stop saying and thinking that."
Jay glanced at her. "Yeah, well…" he let out a breath, shaking his head.
She didn't answer, just looked over at Blythe with a look that said, 'this is a normal thing he does'. Leo trotted alongside them and the road continued on, though in the distance there were some buildings. It was hard to tell if they were just an abandoned house or if it was the start of a town though.
Blythe shrugged a little bit. "I mean, you aren't Wrong, Jay, just…I don't wanna die."
"At least one of you two doesn't want to die," Delia said, nodding as they walked, "That's a start to getting rid of the 'I'm better off dead' mentality." She squinted as the buildings started to come closer, deciding that it looked like a farm and farmhouse. Maybe it would be a good place to stop for the night.
Jay frowned a little bit. "I never said I wanted to die. I just said it would be better if I did."
"You were implying it, Jay." She sighed, looking over at him for a minute but not continuing the sentence. Instead, she just went back to focusing on walking, finding herself counting the steps as they went along.
Jay shrugged slightly. "Yeah, I…I guess so." he replied slowly.
Counting steps got boring after a few minutes, and so she switched to counting the dashes on the road, waiting for one of the other two to notice the farm up ahead of them. At least that way there could be a group decision on stopping or not.
Jay frowned a little. "The farm could provide good shelter. Problem is there might be other people."
"We can scare them off if there are people in there, you two alone are a terrifying sight," Delia suggested a flash of a grin at her joke.
Jay snorted faintly. "Ha. That's true." he replied with a shrug.
"Does that mean you want to try going to the farmhouse?" Delia asked, glancing between the two and feeling very much like a little kid asking her parents for something.
Jay shrugged. "I guess so." he turned towards it.
She nodded happily, starting towards it as well even though she knew soon enough she would be told to stay put while they scared people out of the house.
Blythe was silent, her eyes narrowed just a little bit. Jay continued to walk.
The farmhouse and surrounding buildings came up soon enough, a dirt driveway branching off the road towards the house. Delia instinctively turned onto it, glancing at them and up at the house.
Jay headed towards the front door, one hand already resting on his gun.
There was a slight rustling of movement inside the house, sounding like multiple people. At least that's what Delia guessed as she neared the house with Leo walking almost right between her legs.
Jay knocked on the door, his hand still on the gun.
No one answered, but there was clearly people inside, the creak of the floorboards inside much too loud to be from an animal.
