The Dragonet just gave him a look of pure confusion, not seeming to understand a word he'd said, his tone confusing her even more. Scooting back a bit she let go of Marco, nudging him and seeming to be asking for a translation, ocasionally opening her jaws as if to make the chirruping sound typical for dragonets her age, but… no sound came out.
Marco shifted back after managing to reach high enough to get his paws on her muzzle, calming her with a wordless look, before shifting back to human form and tugging her into his lap. "She can't understand you… or.. or at least I don't think so…" he said sadly, seeming a little calmer now. "The smoke from the fire was really really bad… an.. and she breathed a lot of it in… she… I don't know if it was permanent initially… but she hasn't spoken a word… or made any sound in years…"
"You didn't think to get this checked out? There is a hospital for shifters you know. It's not like no one cares about you guys. My mom works at one." Levi sighed. "I'm getting angry again. Tell me why!" he sang and then shook out his hands. "Alright, she needs help, let's go to the hospital."
Marco shook his head sadly, "I tried, but they wouldn't take us without papers… they.. they were all lost in the fires… they.. they told me to wait and they'd takes us when they finished with everyone else… We waited for nearly 48 hours.. before we were kicked out by security for loitering…"
"Is it okay if my mom comes in? She knows a lot more about this than I do. Also, I'm really nervous and jittery right now. You sister means so much to you and I want to help, I just don't know how if she can't talk. I just don't know what to do god damn it!" Levi lowered his tone. "Sorry…"
Marco nodded sympathetically, "I know.." he said softly, "But.. I.. I don't think she'll be able to handle a hospital full of doctors… If you thought I was jumpy and nervous… she's worse off than me… the only reason she's calm right now is because I'm mostly calm…."
"So…you're warming up to me?" Levi smiled and played with his hands.
"A.. A little…" said Marco softly, "But too many people and I don't think I can keep it together.. much less do it for both of us…"
"Right…right…do you want me to get my mom? It'll only be her I promise." Levi bit his lip, not being able to remove the grin off his face.
"That… if she can help.. then yes…" he said softly, pulling Mia closer to his chest.
"I don't know how to get out of here so…You'll have to come with…" Levi looked at Mia. "I'll have to borrow your brother for a bit is that alright?"
"We.. We'll take Mia with us too…" he said softly, shifting back into a griffon, crouching down and then mimicking a dragon's chirrup to signal his sister to get on, to which she responded somberly.
"Alright." Levi hopped on as well. "We'll go to the house and then I'll call my mom from there."
Marco nodded, before moving off into the trees, his little sister clinging to the middle of his back, just behind Levi.
"Hey…Marco, I have to something to tell you when all this is sorted out okay?" Levi said quietly.
Marco's ears twitched a little as he moved, but he nodded, his pace picking up a little as he headed back to the town.
Levi stayed quiet the rest of the way home. When they got back he let Marco and Mia in the house. He grabbed his phone off the counter and called him mom. "Mom there's a situation that you can help with. It's my soulmate's sister she stuck in a dragonet form and you're the only one who can help. Can you come home, only you?……..okay……got it……thanks, bye." Levi hung up the phone and turned around. "She's coming so hang tight."
Marco nodded, having taken a seat in the corner of the kitchen, cuddling the now anxious dragonet, occasionally mimicking dragonlike chirrups in the back of his throat to try and calm her.
"Hey, Mia, is it okay if my mother will take a look at you? She's just like you and your brother." Levi sat in front of Mia and touched the top of her head.
Mia looked up at Levi curiously, but didn't respond, or possibly didn't understand the question.
"Is there a way for her to understand me?" Levi looked at her scales admiring them. "She's so beautiful."
Marco shook his head, "I don't know.." he said sadly, hugging her a little closer.
"S-Sorry, you both probably need your space. I'll go take a shower. Come and get me when my mom gets home." Levi smiled quickly before moving his way up the stares.
Marco whimpered a little as soon as he was gone, feeling like an idiot once more. "Why do I have to keep pushing him away Mia?" he asked softly, getting now answer from his now confused sibling.
Levi got upstairs and shut the door. He shook his head and slapped his cheeks. Great…now I hurt him because of this stupid soulmate rule! Levi got in the shower and left the door unlocked.
Marco stayed where he was on the kitchen floor, cuddling and stroking Mia's scaley self as he waited for Levi to get out of the shower, or for his mom to get home.
His mom unlocked the door a few minutes later and locked it back once she saw two people. "Hi, I'm Levi's mom, you can call me Elaine. So what is wrong with your sister?"
Marco startled a little when Elaine came in, biting his lip a little, "She.. She hasn't spoke or shifted in years…" he said softly, hugging Mia protectively.
"Can you go get Levi while I work with her for a bit. I promise I won't hurt her. You have my word." Elaine shifted into an animal that was the same size as Mia.
Marco hesitated then nodded, "She.. I think she may have damaged her vocal cords with smoke a long time ago… so.." he left it at that, letting go of Mia before heading upstairs to find Levi.
Mia watched her brother go witha small frown, before turning her attention to the other shifter, tilting her head curiously.
Elanie walked around her examining her bodyElanie nuzzled her head to show her she was not a threat. She opened her mouth signaling Mia to open hers.
