Oscar had fallen back without making a sound, screwing up his face in surprise. A tiny trickle of blood seeped out from under his bandages, running down his nose. For a long moment, he stayed motionless, looking a bit like an overturned turtle. But then, a tremor went through the ground, and he dug his fingers deep into the grass. He growled and sat up, his eyes flying open again. They were still pitch black.
"That hurt," he said, his voice suddenly angry. "They're attacking us!"

@gracehustle

"Oscar! They're not attacking us!" She yelped, freezing from the tremor in the ground and looking over at him with a worried look before trying to calm her voice and get him to calm down, "Oscar, we're fine, it was an accident. They weren't trying to hit you, please just change your eyes back and let this go. I promise it was an accident, even if it hurt." Honor gently and quite nervously reached over and wiped the trickling blood off of his face before pulling back to herself and watching him for any sign this was going to get worse.

(Iiii spaced out hard lol, sorry)
Oscar seemed like he wasn't even listening at first, keeping his eyes locked on the people, who had by now gone back to their game. But then Honor's tone paired with her touching his face snapped him out of it slightly and he blinked, glancing over at her. Slowly, his eyes returned to normal. "I…..I'm sorry. I just thought they were trying to do something bad….." He looked concernedly at her. "….Did I scare you? I didn't mean to….."

@gracehustle

(That's ok lol, sorry it's so short)
She let out a relieved breath and shrugged, shaking her head, "It's alright…I..yeah, you really did scare me there." Honor glanced over at him and shook her head, sighing as she tried to focus back on the picnic, "Are you alright?"

(it's all good ^^)
"I'm fine," Oscar replied immediately, still studying her expression closely. "It doesn't hurt anymore. I'm really sorry, I don't want you to be scared….I wanted to protect us from them, that's all." He looked quite distressed. "Are you mad at me? I made my eyes go dark when you said not to…."

@gracehustle

"No, I'm not mad at you," She said gently, only looking over at him for a few moments before pulling a the grass and sighing, "I'm just not used to your powers, but I understand the protecting thing." Honor really just wished he knew a little more about everything, that way she wouldn't have to teach him. She supposed teaching him was fun though, and something that made her think.

(I have to go to bed, but here)
Oscar nodded slowly, calming down somewhat. "I'll try harder next time, if there is a next time." he glanced at the remains of their food. "Are we staying here a little longer, or do you want to keep moving? I guess we're both done eating so there's not much else to do here….."

@gracehustle

"We can stay here as long as you want or if you want to leave we can do that too," She said, making herself one more sandwich since she was hungry, "Before we go anywhere else though, I need to check if your head is alright, we can do that at the truck though." Watching the kids play made her think back to when she was a kid and doing that exact thing with her friends, rolling around in the grass and throwing a football around.

@gracehustle

Honor nodded, eating her sandwich as well and standing up with a sigh, "Yeah, it's probably good that we get going, your welcome though, besides getting hit in the face." She picked up the remaining food and held out a hand to help him up, making sure to listen for the ball heading for them.

Oscar took her hand and got to his feet, also keeping an eye on the football players. "When we're done looking at my head, where are we going next? The library or your parents' farm?" He was half-hoping she wouldn't ask him which one he wanted, since he himself couldn't decide, but he still expected her to ask him, as she had for every other destination.

@gracehustle

“Well, the library is a shorter drive, but it’s up to you.” She said, walking over to her truck and unlocking it again. Honor set the extra food down where it was before bu Oscar’s seat, then patted the seat for him to sit down, “Right now though, sit down and let me check your head for any damage to the stitches.”

@gracehustle

She gently reaches up and ran a hand across the bandages, lifting her fingers away to see if the blood was still flowing, “It doesn’t seem that bad now, it stopped bleeding. I would look under the bandages but I don’t want to risk not being able to rewrap them so I’ll just leave it. You should be fine.” Honor nodded and stepped away, walking around to the drivers seat and hopping in, “Well, where to now? Library is closer, but if you want to see the animals at my parents house we can do that too.”

@gracehustle

“Probably not, your kind isn’t a subject that a lot of people want to read about.” She admitted, starting the truck and pulling out of the park skillfully, “I could probably find something online for you though, that way you can read books about other things and I’ll try to find something.”

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

Oscar wasn't very familiar with "online" stuff yet, but for once he wasn't in the mood to ask about it. He merely nodded, staring out the window for a minute before tentatively asking her something else. "Honor? You said earlier that you'd met one of my kind before….but you said it was a long story. Is it a….bad story? Is that why you didn't talk about it?"

@gracehustle

As soon as he brought up the story, her demeanor changed slightly and she bit her lip, focusing on driving and not taking her eyes off the road. “It’s..well, it’s not a bad story, sad maybe, but not super bad. But yes, that’s why I didn’t want to talk about it. I don’t want to ruin a fun day with a not so fun story.” Honor finally glanced over at him for no longer than a moment, drumming her fingers on the steering wheel and trying to decide if it was worth telling.

@gracehustle

"No, I want to tell you, just not right now. Later tonight maybe, or tomorrow." She said, her focus back on the road as she drove back into town and towards the library. She hoped it wasn't too crowded or crazy, if anything she wished it was empty or only had a few people. That way Oscar would feel the most comfortable.

(sorry I vanished, gotta go to bed now)
"All right." Oscar sat back, watching the buildings go by outside. "Oh…hey, do the books at the library cost money too, like the food and clothes?" This thought worried him, as it meant he'd only be able to read a limited amount at a time.

@gracehustle

“No they don’t cost money, we just have to read them in the library, we can’t take them home.” She explained, knowing she had a library card but not wanting to risk checking out a book and not returning it. Honor smiled and looked over at him, “You can read as many books as you want.”

@gracehustle

Honor nodded and smiled at his excitement, turning the corner onto the main road where the library was. “Almost there, just be patient.” She finally pulled into the parking lot and turned off the truck, looking over at him but not getting out right away, “Ready to go?”

@gracehustle

“Yes, I’m ready, let’s get going!” She said, matching his tone and hopping out of the truck. Honor made sure he was out before locking it and making her way towards the door of the building, checking that she had her library card in her wallet just in case he begged her to check something out.

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

Oscar took the lead as they approached and opened the library's glass door, trotting inside. He was immediately struck by how eerily quiet it was inside the building, compared to the bustle of the mall and the grocery store. He halted in the middle of the main room, glancing back at Honor. "…Why is it so quiet in here? Isn't there anyone around?"

@gracehustle

Honor just smiled and shook her head, explaining quietly, “No, libraries are almost always quiet, it’s so people can read in peace and really just mind their own business without getting distracted.” She liked the quiet in the building, though it was one of the only places that she really enjoyed the silence, otherwise she couldn’t stand the silence.

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

"Oh…okay. So I guess we should be quiet too, then." Oscar lowered his voice slightly, glancing around again with more attention for detail. "There are so many books here." Having no idea where to even start, he chose the closest shelf and started scanning the books on it. "I guess I'll start reading now. Um….are there any other rules here besides not being loud?"

@gracehustle

“Just don’t be loud and don’t wreck the books, Those are essentially the only rules.” She said, already starting towards one of the few computers lined up against one wall as he looked at books, “Come get me if you have a question or want to leave, otherwise you can read as much as you want.”
