Vaughn slipped into another room, taking out his pistol. He followed the sound of voices and eventually came across two larger looking men. They noticed him and shouted, one brandishing a knife. He shot the one without the knife, and ten other ran at him, taking Vaughn to the floor.
//perhaps Vaughn requires assistance
perhaps Vaughn should've thought this through
Bella heard shouts and gunshots, and she stood up, looking around wildly. She entered the hallway Vaughn had just disappeared into and slipped out her knife. she had two, actually. The other one was stuffed in her other boot, but she rarely used that one. She glanced around and noticed Vaughn on the floor with people around him. Bella snuck up behind one of them and stabbed them, causing them to fall over, toppling into another one. She got their attention enough so Vaughn could get up and help her.
Vaughn’s eyes widened when he saw Bella. “Son of a..” he muttered, jumping to his feet. He grabbed Bella, firing a few shots into the man, and ran, dragging her along. “What the hell were you thinking?!”
"I just saved you!" she exclaimed, still clutching the bloody knife.
“I had it under control! You could have been hurt. And get rid of that,” Vaughn hissed, snatching the knife away and throwing it aside.
"Vaughn! That was my favorite! Had it under control?? You were on the floor with a bunch of men around you! I'm fine, I'm not hurt and you're not," she said looking him over while running, "I think. Anyway, that's all that matters right now!"
“Only for a moment,” Vaughn muttered, walking quickly towards the exit of the building.
"well you should be thanking me." she pouted, still following him. "why were you even doing that anyway? what was the point?'
“That man was convicted of beating his wife,” Vaughn said simply, getting to the parking lot.
"Oh." Bella said climbing into the truck. "This is why you're like.. wanted, or something?"
Vaughn slipped into the drivers seat, setting the bag of clothes in the backseat. “Exactly,” he answered in a level tone, starting the truck.
Bella nodded. "I see. Look, I know you don't trust me or anything, but I know what you are doing is right, and you definitely should not go to jail for what you're doing."
Vaughn pulled out of the lot, fingers gripping the steering wheel. “I appreciate that,” he answered.
Bella knew Vaughn didn't want to talk to her, so she remained silent, staring out of the window again.
Eventually, Vaughn pulled back up to the gas station and got out, grabbing the bag of clothes. He had purchased a few extra things for Haven as well. He didn’t know what her size was, so he guessed and hoped they would be okay.
Haven saw them through the window and walked outside, waving them in hurriedly. “How’d it go?”
Vaughn gave a quick smile. “Went alright. Got you a few things,” he said, handing Haven a bag.
“Thanks,” she said, poking through the bag.
Vaughn gave a nod and ran a hand through his hair.
Bella entered silently and sat gently on a chair, watching the two. They so very clearly didn't want her around, and she started questioning her choice to come.
Vaughn eventually went back inside, brow furrowed as he looked at Bella. “Everything okay?” He asked in a low tone.
Bella sighed. "U-uh…I'm fine." She said.
“Well,” Haven said, walking out and looking at her cracked watch. “It’s 5:30 AM. We can head out or sleep some more, decisions?”
Bella glanced at Vaughn, waiting for his answer.
“I think we all could use a bit more sleep. Need to talk to you though,” Vaughn said, nodding at Bella.
“Alright, I’ll set up a cot for Bella,” she said, leaving the room.
Bella nodded in thanks towards Haven, and turned back to Vaughn. "Talk? About what?"
“Thank you, Haven,” Vaughn said before turning to Bella. “You’re a terrible, lier, you know.”
"What? What do you mean?" She asked.
