Frankie's smile grew a little but was still kind of shy. ”You’re welcome, Selina. I really mean it too.” he told her. He had never had known someone who he could talk to so easily and without judgment.
Frankie's smile grew a little but was still kind of shy. ”You’re welcome, Selina. I really mean it too.” he told her. He had never had known someone who he could talk to so easily and without judgment.
(lol do you ever write something and immediately come up with a heart wrenching way to see a character die and are just like NO to yourself (That just happened to me lol))
"I mean it too, Frankie," She said, flicking a wet piece of hair out of her face and keeping her bright smile. Selina turned back to look up at the sky after looking into Frankie's gray eyes again, happy she had someone she could talk to and trust even if they hadn't known each other for long.
(honestly, not very much. I tend to get too attached to my characters then I don't want anything to happen to them. … you don't mean Selina, do you?)
He smiled brightly back before slowly sitting up and opening one of the outer pockets of his backpack. ”Here. I bet you're a little hungry after swimming.” he said pulling out a couple of apples and energy bars.
(……It may have been Selina….)
She laughed lightly and nodded, sitting up when she saw the food in his hands and gently taking one of the apples from him, "Swimming works up an appetite, I'm starving. Thank you." Within seconds of grabbing the apple and saying thank you, she bit into it the same time her stomach growled loudly.
(yipe… Dare I ask what your idea was?)
Frankie nodded a little and gave a light chuckle. ”You’re welcome.” he smiled before taking a bite of the second apple. He put the two energy bars back in the pocket, fairly sure he would still have one later, and laid back down.
(If you want to hear the whole scene that my idiotic brain keeps bring back up along with it, be my guest…I'll just warn, Frankie is in it)
Besides the crunching of the apple as she ate, Selina went quite, looking over the lake and admiring one of her favorite views in the whole park. Not many tourists ventured this far into the park to find this lake and it made her happy but also slightly sad since she wanted to share this view with everyone. It was gorgeous and made ever better since she was sitting alongside her friend and warming up in the bright sun.
(Well, if you have a whole scene… go ahead. I’m curious now.)
Frankie sighed in contentment at the peace around them. ”I wish I was an artist so I could capture this moment.” he said softly as to not disturb the beauty.
(It might take a minute to write up but I'll get)
"Yeah…even just taking a picture of it would be amazing, I don't know how to use a camera though," She said, her voice soft as well and her apple almost down to the core as she took a few more bites. Once she finished she figured they should probably get going in time to get to where she wanted to take him.
(Take your time.)
He shrugged. ”Only camera I have is on my phone. But I don't know… even with a camera there often seems to be something missing to me.” he admitted keeping his voice gentle. ”It’s a little closer when it’s painted. I don't know why.”
(The scene is finally readyy, my actual post is right here and the scene is right below it)
Selina nodded, watching the water lap gently against the shore, "A painting sounds like it would get a little closer, though I don't think anything could beat this actual view."
(This is the scene (Ignore how crappily it's written too, it would sound better if someone else wrote it)
This was worse than any of her nightmares, old or new. It didn't even seem real as she crashed through the trees, cradling her bleeding arm against her chest and running from the sounds of whatever creature they had sent after her. Not even the fact that she was back in her own woods could make this situation less dire. All Selina wished was that she could shift, maybe lead them away from everyone else, keep Frankie safe. Her arm wouldn't allow that, and neither would whatever drugs they shot into her to stop her from doing just that.
Maybe this would be it. She had already had somehow gotten to live for years without being found. This was just the end of the line. Her breathing was hard and fast and her legs pounded against the ground in a frantic rhythm. The animals she could hear sounded like dogs now that they were getting closer, their growls and barks loud even over the rushing of the stream on her left. It was the same one she had brought Frankie to, and it was leading her downstream to the same spot they had spent on of her favorite days. If she could just make it there..she could handle dying there if nothing else.
Running was getting harder though, her legs feeling more sluggish than ever now. There was too much blood on the front of her shirt, too much on her hands, almost all of it her own as well. Too much echo of her own labored breathing in her ears and too many pained looks on her face. "Keep them away from him, from them," She whispered, pushing herself forward towards the view of the lake in front of herself. One knee gave out below her and she stumbled, letting out a yelp and just focusing on the rocky ground near the water. Almost there. A few more yards, then a few feet, and suddenly she was falling with a splash into the shallow water.
She turned to face the shore and stumbled upright, sinking down onto her knees and whimpering while cradling her arm even closer. Claws digging into dirt and shifting around on the rocks around her, growls sounded only feet away, though as she braced for some sort of pain, nothing came. Selina tried not to look up, but the red was becoming too much and she had to, meeting the sharp and clearly modified eyes of a huge dog in front of her. They were strangely yellow, maybe in the range of her own golden eyes. "I can't die," She choked out in a whispered voice, trying to plead with the dog in front of her, "Please..I have too many things I want to do. I..want to live."
(lol got too long to write here, I'll post the rest with my next response…sry)
Selina nodded, watching the water lap gently against the shore, "A painting sounds like it would get a little closer, though I don't think anything could beat this actual view."
Frankie smiled. ”You’re right. Anything less than experiencing something like this would be only an imitation.” he agreed, finishing his apple. ”Maybe nice to look at but still falls short of the real thing.”
(Don’t apologize. That was beautiful… A little haunting and tear-jerking but beautiful.)
(It's not done, still got a little bit left to go if you want to read the final part. I just put in as much as I could without it getting terribly long) (If you want to see the rest, I'll let you know it might be several hours, I have to go to a thing ehhh)
"It would be a beautiful painting, though I agree, it would still not be the real thing. Something would be missing." She took another bite of apple and finished it off, tossing the core into the woods behind them. "Once you finish, we can get going, even if it means leaving this view for now."
(I understand. I am still curious but I do want Selina to live so maybe I shouldn't find out the rest…)
”I guess we'll just have to cherish the memory.” Frankie smiled as he sat back up before nodding. ”I’m ready to go if you are. As beautiful as this place is, I’m excited to see where you’ll take me.”
(lol up to you if you want to read what happens :) )
Selina grinned a little, making it to her feet and offering a hand to help him up, "I'll take you back here whenever you want, but right now, are you up for some hiking? You might want to put your shoes back on for this next part, even if they're wet."
(Dang it. I know I’m going to cry but… Yes, I would like to know what happens next.)
”I’ll hold you to that.” Frankie smiled as he accepted her hand and stood up. ”I’m always up for a hike. My shoes should be dry by now.” he agreed glancing at the pieces of clothing before looking back at Selina.
(ok :) It's once again following this response)
She nodded, a little worried for her own feet since she didn't have shoes, but knowing she could make the climb. "Perfect, whenever you're ready then, we can get going. It'll probably take a while to get there. It's well worth the work though." Once again she smiled, rolling down her pant legs out of their shorts form and into pants again.
(Here it is…as requested and much to my sadness (yes the first line is from the other part, I just wanted to connect it somehow)
"I can't die," She choked out in a whispered voice, trying to plead with the dog in front of her, "Please..I have too many things I want to do. I..want to live." The dog snarled and snapped at her face, the sharp teeth terribly close to her as what sounded like people crashed through the woods as well. Selina was almost surprised that she hadn't been mauled to death yet, thought the dogs were clearly just supposed to corner her.
"Dammit! It wasn't supposed to be injured!" A sharp and clearly male voice snapped as she shrunk into an even tighter ball to hide her arm. This was most likely the commander, and by the large ATV he was riding, he was the one who had come chasing her. She hadn't heard the noise of the vehicle over the growing sound of blood pounding in her head, a bad sign that even she could still understand. Thoughts were fuzzier now, and even his talking was sounding less clear. "We'll have to get a new one.." He growled, messing with something that she couldn't make out, "This one won't survive. Leave it."
The next jolt of pain was unexpected, the heel of a boot dug into her shoulder until she was forced to uncurl and yell out in pain from the same boot slamming into her stomach. It was enough to leave her seeing black spots and she whimpered, enduring one more blow to her already unusable arm before they seemed to leave. She wasn't sure how long she spent with her eyes pressed shut from the pain, but a panicked yell finally made her open her eyes to see Frankie rushing towards her. "No, no, no, Selina, what happened?" He said, most likely yelling though his voice sounded distant.
She didn't want to die. It was painful and she just watched the blood flow freely from her arm, hearing Frankie's voice and feeling his arms around her. His words were muffled though, too muffled to make out. At least she could see him though, prying her eyes away from her bleeding wound and looking up at his face. The same grey eyes looking back at her so long after she had first came across his camp in the woods. "What a place to die.." She mumbled, feeling her head rest against his chest. Her favorite place in the park, and now the last place she would see. "Isn't it pretty, Frankie?" She whispered, feeling tears fall down her face, "I don't want to die though…I have too many of my kind to keep safe and what if they come for you."
It seemed to take forever for her body to finally give up the fight of surviving, though she could tell Frankie was holding her close the whole time, saying things she couldn't make out and brushing her hair out of her face. She could make out his eyes though, even filled with tears they were locked on hers. A good last thing to see, her favorite spot in the whole world and her favorite person with her even as her body went numb and she cried. She was scared to leave Frankie's side, she didn't want to go. Her body fell numb eventually though and her tears flowed even as she looked around and then up into his eyes one final time. "Isn't it beautiful Frankie.." She choked out, taking a last shaky breath and making sure she studied his eyes for the last time before death took her away.
(mannn I cried writing this ;-; dang it brain you suck, why are you so good at making me think of terrible scenes)
He smiled as he slid on his socks and shoes. ”I’m sure it will be very worth it.” Frankie picked up his backpack and slung it onto his back before grabbing his walking stick. ”Well, we’d better get started then, if it's that long a walk.” he chuckled, ready to go.
(😭 that hurt so much… why do I find it oddly beautiful though? You truly have a gift. I don't think I have to tell you that Frankie would be saying ”I love you” a couple of times during that scene.)
(Man it hurt to write that even if it felt like typing it up flew by ;-; I kinda had a gut feeling that he might say 'I love you' but I didn't want to put something in that I wasn't sure he would do (Selina would be saying it right back just to tell you lol))
"One last thing before we get going, tell me if you need a break at all or if you see any bears or anything. Part of this trail we won't be able to walk side by side." Selina stood up and nodded, excited to be showing him her second favorite spot in the park. She made sure Frankie was ready before grinning and walking away the shore, going away from the lake and into the woods.
(😂😭💔)
Frankie nodded in agreement at her condition before following her. ”I will. Especially about the bears but I should be able to keep up with you alright on the hike.” he assured her. If he really needed to take a break he would let her know.
She nodded again and smiled, making sure she wasn't far from Frankie as she led him onto a small deer trail cutting through the woods. The water was visible through the trees on their side, though they were slowly turning away from the water and heading towards a thicker section of the woods.
He smiled and followed her at a good pace. Having been a scout he was able to recognize the trial they were currently walking and almost hoped that they would get to see some other animals on the hike.
Selina settled in after a few minutes of walking, finding a good pace and weaving through the trees on the rough path. She itched to move faster, but she knew the trail got hard eventually and she didn't want to waste her energy.
Frankie smiled as he followed comfortably behind her. The pace she was setting was nice and gave him a chance to look around as they walked. He couldn't wait to see this place and he could tell she was eager to show him.
(The place she wants to bring him is similar to the top of the cliff on the right: https://cdn.suwalls.com/wallpapers/nature/sunset-light-upon-a-rocky-peak-in-yellowstone-national-park-51321-1920x1200.jpg)
They continued winding through the woods for quite a while, Selina keeping silent with a small smile as she listened for other wildlife and looked to follow the trail. Soon it was clear they were starting to go uphill though, even if it wasn't that steep yet.
(Wow! 😮 I’d never be able to get to the top of that!! But it looks beautiful!)
Frankie was a little noisier than Selina but didn't speak as they went down the trail. He did slow down once to grab an energy bar but quickly caught back up. He was very excited to see this place and didn't want to stop until they got there.
(Lol yeah, I've hiked to the top of things similar to that and it takes forever)
The path they were on was winding around on a long loop, gradually going uphill back and forth. "Need to take a break yet?" She asked, glancing back at him with a smile, "Or can you handle a little longer?"
Frankie shook his head, not more than an arm's length behind her. ”I can keep going for a while longer. Are we at the halfway point?” he asked more in excitement than exhaustion.
She shook her head, though continued smiling, "No, close to the one third way point though, it's that giant rock up there." She pointed to a large boulder up the winding trail a little ways and continued up, "That's a good place to rest if you're tired."
He smiled back and nodded. ”That’s fair. I’m not really tired but we can rest up there for a bit.” he agreed as he saw the rock ahead of them. It made more sense to rest before they were completely exhausted so it wouldn't take so long to recover.
"It's a fairly pretty spot to look out on the lake too, the one we were just at." She knew they should rest a lot more than they probably were going to or that Frankie would ask to rest, but she trusted that he could keep up. He seemed strong and she knew he would know where his limits were.
