"Oh, no, go ahead." She said, nodding. "But you're right. It's tight knit."

Cliff exhaled through his nose. “You got that right. God, I’d fucken’ kill to get outta here.”

Sheena shrugged again. "At least we haven't been busted yet…"

“At least.” Cliff agreed, a small laugh escaping his lips.

(absolutely.)

Sheena laughed softly, about to reach for another smoke when the door was suddenly kicked in. "Shit, it's a bust!" She hissed.

Cliff’s eyes widened. “Ha-! Well, we’re goin’ to hell in a handbasket.” He mumbled, quickly grinding out his smoke. “What the fuck do we do?” He seemed oddly calm, but it could’ve just been his voice.

"Follow me." Sheena said, grabbing his wrist and running, pulling him after her.

“Yeah, alright.” Cliff allowed himself to be tugged, running after Sheena. “Uh- mind if I ask just where we’re goin’?”

"The roof. The gap to the next building over is really small, we can jump it and go out that building!" She said, running faster to the stairs.

“Ju- are you out of your everloving mind?” Cliff balked at the suggestion, but he didn’t exactly have an alternative.

"A little." She said, running into the stairwell.

“Only a little, huh? Noted.” He followed her up the stairs, glancing behind them every once in a while to make sure they weren’t being followed.

Sheena clenched her jaw as she heard someone following them. "Fuck!" She said, throwing open the door to the roof and dropping Cliff's wrist. "We're gonna have to go one at a time, okay?"

“Shit. Yeah- yeah, alrigh’.” Cliff rubbed his wrist, glancing behind himself more often now. “I assume yer the one goin’ first, huh?”

Sheena nodded, sprinting to the roof edge, leaping onto the next roof. "Come on!"

Cliff mumbled a quick prayer to himself before following Sheena’s lead, stumbling slightly when he landed. “Christ on a cracker, Sheena. What do we do next? I mean, they’re going to catch up to us sooner or later if we don’t move.”

Sheena nodded. "C'mon." She said, going down the stairs. "Let's get goin'."

Cliff followed Sheena’s lead, barely saying a word.

Sheena stopped outside, looking down the street. "Which way?"

“Left. I hear shit down the other way.” Cliff grimaced, just about ready to grab Sheena’s arm and book it down the street.

"Left it is!" She said, running off in that direction.

Cliff sprinted after Sheena, passing by the many buildings. He tried to find an alley to hide out in, if only for a few minutes.

"Here!" She said, going inside an abandoned building.

“This place sure is.. unloved.” Cliff’s voice was hushed, and he let out a low, long whistle. “How long you think it’s been since somebody’s been holed up in here?”

"Years, probably." She said, looking around. "Hold on, it's dark…" She pulled out a lighter, lighting it so they could see properly

“Sweet Jesus…” Cliff muttered, looking around the room.

"Are- are those books?" She whispered, looking around.

“Oh my god, I think so.” He glanced behind them, towards the door, trying to listen out for any noises that might be a threat. “Sheena.. how the fuck did they get away with this..?”

"I don't know, but the lock looked like it just fell off…" She mumbled, walking to a shelf, running her hand along the spines. "Look at this. Harry Potter, The Great Gatsby, Hard Times, Lord Of The Rings, The Book Thief… they're banned books…"

“It managed to stay locked for this long? Mercy..” Cliff laughed slightly, chewing on his knuckle.
