“She’s safe just I can’t tell you what happened. That’s for her to share. I just you are the only one I’ve ever seen her talk to. Plus you being her soulmate and all,” He said going to stand up.

"Me being her soulmate shouldn't change anything," Lotus muttered to themselves. They looked up at Sam, "Okay. I don't know where you guys live, so I'll need help there."

“If you meet me outside after school I’ll give you a ride,” He said standing up.

Lotus nodded and gave him a slightly forced smile, "Thanks. I'll take you up on that."

The next two periods were filled with slight worry for her new friend/soulmate/thing. They ended up waiting outside of the building trying not to pace and forcing themselves to fidget with the cube on their bag.

Sam walked out of the building. He walked over to Lotus. “My cars over here,” she said walking over to her car. It’s an old model and looked rundown.

Lotus nodded and followed after Sam, "Okay. I'm trusting you."

Same got into the drivers seat waiting for her to get into the passenger. He started up the car.

Lotus got into the passenger seat. They held their bag close to themselves sitting their.

Sam drove off. He was a pretty good driver. He drove to a slightly rundown neighborhood. He parked in front of a small but clean looking house.

Lotus saw the house and looked over to Sam. They felt a bit better after the drive, "You live here?"

“Yeah it’s not that bad,” he said getting out of the car. The houses around their house looked to be in a lot worse shape.

Lot got out of the car and closed the door behind them. Their hands had a tight grip on the strap of their bag, "It isn't. So, so Cat'sin the house?"

“Yeah she should be. She’s been in her room all day,” he explained. Going up to the door and unlocking the two locks. He walks in holding the door open for Lotus. “It’s the second door to the left. I have to go pick up our brother from school. I’ll drive you home when I get back.”

Lotus nodded as they stepped into the house. They glanced around, "Okay. See you then."

They took a deep breath and walked forward going to the second door on the left and knocking three times on it, "Um Cat? It's me. Lot."

Sam hesitated but then left. Cat opened the door. Her cheeks where tear stained but she looked like she was don’t crying. She bit her lip when she saw Lotus. “What are doing here?” She asked sounding more harsh than she meant to.

"I, uh," Lotus could see the tear stains on Cat's cheeks and felt bad almost immediately, "I was worried about you. That and Sam kind of left me no choice."

“I told you I was sick,” she said her voice softer. She opened the door more and sat on her bed. The twin sized bed was in one of the corners of the room. It only left about 2 feet of space between it and the opposite wall. There was a small drawer beside the door.

"Yeah," Lotus responded entering the room though sticking near the door waiting for a more formal offer to fully enter. It was just how their head worked. They also blurted out since it was stuck in their head, "You have tear stains. Why?"

She hugged herself slightly looking up at them. “I get emotional when I’m sick,” she lied her voice small. “Do you want to come in? You’re like stuck here for a bit.”

"Yeah, thanks," Lotus stepped in studying her. They walked over and sat close to Cat on the bed, "You, you don't have to lie to me okay?" Then a horrible thought hit them and they began to shrink within themselves as they add on, "If, if I'm the cause. I'm sorry. Sometimes I speak before thinking about how my words affect others."

Cat looked up. “No it’s not you I promise. I just it’s my brother,” she admitted looking at Lotus. She gripped her own wrist.

"Your brother?" Lotus asked softly. They didn't know everything about Cat's life and they wouldn't ask her to tell anything she didn't want to, "Okay. Are, are, are you feeling better now?"

“Not really,” she admitted giving up on lying. “He-he’s my biological brother. He’s five years older than me and went missing for awhile…”

"For a while," Lot was quick to put the pieces together, "So he's back now? Is that a good or bad thing?"

“They um they found Him but I wouldn’t say he’s back,” she said looking down at her lap. “They found him in a marsh…” she played with her hands. Her eyes watery but she didn’t cry.

"Oh," Lotus felt awful. They were extremely careful putting their arms around Cat in a hug making sure none of their skin touched. They went quiet, "I'm sorry."

Cat shrugged going tense but then relaxing. “It’s fine. I’m fine. I hadn’t seen him for years but now there’s going to be a funeral…I was his only family Lot. I don’t even know if he had friends.”

"Uh, maybe he did?" Lot responded their voice quiet as they struggled to find words to say. They weren't good with emotions, with things like this.

”yeah maybe. What did I miss in Ela?” she asked changing the subject?

"Nothing much," Lot responded removing their arms with some reluctance. They held themselves instead, "More notes on the Illiad and we have a nother group project coming up. I think he's assigning it tomorrow."
