He didn’t, even though he was shaking slightly. Kyle swallowed, “But mostly you do… that.. Why?”
He didn’t, even though he was shaking slightly. Kyle swallowed, “But mostly you do… that.. Why?”
“Because the government has slowly been taking people with powers and weaponizing them.”
"Do you know how long they've been doing that for? And… and if they'd have any… interested in- in me?"
“They’ve been doing it for at least 10 years now. And they did have interest in you at a certain point. I’m not really sure if they still do. But they had no idea where you were. Hopefully they still don’t know.”
Kyle nodded a little, “Did-“ He paused for a moment, “Did you lie when you said you loved me?” He whispered.
He blinked rapidly, as if he couldn’t believe that Kyle had actually asked him that. He locked eyes with him again. “No. I didn’t lie. I would never lie about that. I meant it when I said it, every time. I love you more than anything in this entire world. You’re my universe, the light of my life. And I’m sorry I made you doubt that.”
“Prove it then,” Kyle swallowed, “If you really meant it, prove it.” He know he sounded crazy, but he had to make sure.
“I love you” he repeated before kissing him softly. “And I will always be here by your side.” He kissed him again, more deeply this time. He hoped he could actually communicate it to Kyle. How much he meant it.
It took a moment but Kyle kissed him back just as deep the second time. He wrapped his arms around Caleb’s neck, trying his best not to cry. He knew he wasn’t lying this time.
Caleb held the kiss for what felt like forever before he pulled away. Tears had begun to blur his own vision and he quickly hugged Kyle.
Kyle noticed and he quickly hugged Caleb back, climbing into his lap, “Please don’t cry..” He whispered.
“S-Sorry.” He whispered. “I’m just…so glad you don’t hate me..”
Kyle cooed softly, pulling Caleb’s face back so he could cup both his cheeks, “I could never hate you stupid. Just please don’t lie to me again.”
“I won’t, I promise.” He smiled softly before he remembered something. “Um babe? There’s..something else you should know about, while we’re on the whole powers topic.”
Kyle felt his heart speed up and instantly grew nervous, “Is- Is something wrong?”
“U-um no not exactly WRONG but um.” He coughed, there was no easy way to do this after all.
“Caleb what did we just talk about? Tell me.” He narrowed his eyes a little.
“It’s not just me! Dark,..isn’t just me”
Kyle blinked, opened his mouth to speak then shut it again, “What? Then who else?”
“Um..” he moved away a bit, messing with his hands anxiously. “There was..a reason why the government never found out I had powers. It’s because I don’t control them completely. I didn’t even know I had them until after I got out. But I knew that things were different than they were before. And a bit after I was free, I realized that I wasn’t alone. Kyle, do you- ” he cut himself off, hesitating for a second before he continued. “Do you remember that one day when I woke up and you said I was acting strangely? And my eyes were a completely different color?” He took a deep breath. ‘Come on Caleb, spit it out.’ “That’s my partner, the person you met that day is the other half of Dark Ride.”
Kyle frowned, confusion written on his features, “That… how does… what? I’m still confused. So there’s… another person inside you?”
He nodded. “She was the terrorist we were chasing right before the accident. I was the last one left to follow her, and somehow this radioactive dark goopy stuff got out of its containment core. The whole building exploded. But somehow our souls absorbed it and became connected. If I try and use my powers without her..well there’s a good chance I’d just explode. We’re like a reactor core, and you need both parts of us to contain all the energy inside.” He sighed “sorry I’m really bad at explaining this. Do you want to..talk to her?”
“Caleb you’re explaining it fine, I understand. And- And yes, I do. If she’s willing to talk to me.”
He smiled and squeezed his hand gently. “I’m glad. She’s been wanting to meet you for awhile so I’m sorry if she’s a little bit over the top.” He took a deep breath. “Uh Eddie..you can come out now.” For a second nothing happened but then a glowing figure came into existence, right next to Caleb. It took a second before it cleared up, and Kyle could see the translucent figure clearly. The girl had boycut hair, a few piercings in her ears, and the widest smile on her face.
Kyle was still cautious, and he curled into Caleb a little, “Um.. hi?”
Kyle was still cautious, and he curled into Caleb a little, “Um.. hi?”
The girl opened her mouth to speak and Caleb quickly shot her a look like ‘please don’t freak him out’. She noticed and very calmly said. “Hi. I’m Eddie, it’s so good to finally meet you.” Her voice might’ve even sounded a bit familiar. Sometimes at night she’d walk around the apartment when she thought everyone was asleep, humming softly to herself. She’d sometimes check up on Caleb and Kyle too, making sure everyone was okay. She could be very motherly like that, although she would never admit it.
Kyle smiled shyly back to her, “It’s nice to meet you too, Eddie. Um.. sorry I don’t know what to say.”
She chuckled softly at that. “That’s quite alright. You are in a very weird situation right now. Though you are handling it quite well considering this jerk waited as long as possible to tell you.” She glared at Caleb who quickly ducked behind Kyle. She rolled her eyes. “Anyway Caleb are you gonna do anything about our unconscious psychopath over there?”
“Oh shit I totally forgot” he said, looking over to where their intruder was thankfully still unconscious. He frowned a bit, resting his head on Kyle’s shoulder. “I didn’t like seeing someone like him that close to you…I’m sorry I didn’t get here sooner.”
Kyle giggled a little at what Eddie said, realising then that he liked her. Though when he looked down at the man, he curled into Caleb even though he was unconscious, "I-It's okay," He whispered, "Who- Who is he?"
