Kyle’s eyes went wide, unable to fight against the other man, “You’re insane.”

“Very astute observation.” He grinned before checking the time. “Sadly it seems our time together is nearly over. Maybe that precious little boyfriend of yours doesn’t love you so much after all.”

Kyle just his head, shaking of the thought, “No. No he’ll come you can’t just say stuff like that. He does love me, Caleb wouldn’t leave me to die.”

“Well seems to look that way so far.” He’d pulled out his knife again, and quickly pressed it against Kyle’s throat. “People like you…always having so much faith in others, it’s sickening!” He thought of something and began to laugh. “You don’t even know who he really is.”

Kyle blinked, trying not to look so scared even on the inside he was petrified, “What- What do you mean by that?“

He continued laughing for a few seconds before it died down. “Oh you’ll see soon enough. That is if your lover boy actually decides to show up. Only five minutes left though.” He pressed the knife against Kyle’s throat, a bit of blood beginning to seep out.

Kyle whimpered, “Please…” He whispered, looking at the knife before back to the man, “Please don’t.”

“They always do break at the end. Not so tough now are you darling?” He chuckled. “But don’t worry, I’ll stay true to my word, which means you have five minutes left to live.”

Kyle silently prayed that Caleb would show up. Even if he died when the other arrived at least he’d get to say goodbye, “Please don’t do this.”

He laughed again and was about to say more when the door burst open. It was Caleb. “I was beginning to think you weren’t coming.”
“Let go of him.” Caleb growled out.
The guy gave a sigh of disapproval, looking Caleb up and down. “Look at you, still pretending to be like everyone else. Don’t you think he deserves to know the truth?” He said, the knife pressing more up against Kyle’s neck, cutting into more of the skin. “Seems like your lover boy here doesn’t value you that much at all. How unfortunate for you. Well then Caleb, since he’s such a burden to you how about I help you out?” He moved the knife away and made a quick move to slash Kyle’s throat. But the knife would never make It’s target, a dark tendril having wrapped around the handle of the knife, holding it back. That tendril connected back to Caleb.
The guy smirked. “How nice of you to join us…Dark Ride.”

(THE TEA IS HOT TODAY BOIS HOLY)

Kyles eyes went wide. Wider then they’d ever gone before. That wasn’t possible. There was no way his Caleb was Dark Ride? But the evidence was right there. And he didn’t even tell him, didn’t even trust him enough. Maybe the guy was right, he was just a burden in Caleb’s way.

((INDEED IT IS. You definitely called this at some point though and I was like “uHm wHaT hAhA oF cOuRsE nOt” lol))

Caleb wasn’t letting himself look at Kyle right now. Because if he did, he would break, too ashamed of all the lies he’d told him. “Considering you wanted this fight in the first place, you don’t seem too excited.” Caleb said, the dark tendril releasing the knife before flowing back into Caleb’s palm. Luckily, this anonymous guy no longer seemed to have any interest in hurting Kyle. Not while his target was still alive.
He grinned. “Not excited? You kidding? I haven’t had a challenge like this in a long time.” He pulled another knife from his belt. The two stared each other down for a few seconds before the man threw one of his knives. Caleb was quick to summon a wall of darkness to block it, and the guy charged. It had very quickly changed into close combat, and the dark energy hovering near Caleb’s palms quickly changed into makeshift daggers, blocking his opponent while also looking for an opportunity to attack. Something about Caleb’s attitude had been different since he’d begun fighting. If Kyle was watching, he’d probably notice Caleb’s eyes. While still their normal green, they also had noticeable bits of hazel that almost seemed to move around, changing in shape and size.

Kyle was in the way, too exposed and he knew it. Even though he didn’t want to use his powers he had to. He focused, freezing the ropes long enough for them to crack a and snap and free himself, moving out the way. He hated watching the fight, because even if Caleb had lied since the beginning, he still cared for him. But he’d have to re-evaluate that a little later when there wasn’t a possibility of him dying.

((GOOD JOB LOL. NOT GONNA LIE THOUGH I’M SCARED FOR THE ANGST BETWEEN KYLE AND CALEB THAT’S GONNA COME AFTER THIS))

The fight was close, until Caleb managed to knock a dagger out of the man’s grip, sliding too far away for him to recover it. This gave Caleb a significant advantage, but the man still got a few good slashes on Caleb before Caleb knocked the remaining dagger out of his hand. Before the man could reach for another, the darkness surged from Caleb’s hands and wrapped itself around the man’s throat, choking him. The man fought but could not get away. He locked eyes with Kyle from across the room. “Guess we won’t get to spend some more time together after all doll face.” Which only made the dark tendrils tighten more, the man gasped and desperately clawed at them. But it was too late, and he slipped into unconsciousness. As soon as he did, Caleb released him, letting his body hit the floor. The darkness seeped back into Caleb, like water being absorbed by a sponge. The hazel fled from his eyes as well and everything was, back to normal. Or as normal as things could be now anyway. Caleb couldn’t look up, couldn’t walk over to Kyle, knowing he’d just be pushed away. So instead he settled for, “he didn’t hurt you too badly did he? No broken bones?” His voice was barely above a whisper, but in the dead silence of the apartment, it’d be easy to hear.

(BRUH I’M SCARED TOO)

Kyle recoiled a little at what the man had said out of disgust, but he didn’t have too much time to think about it, mainly because Caleb had spoken, “Why?” He didn’t bother answering Caleb’s questions, “Why did you lie to me? And for the entirety of our relationship?” He tried to stay calm, but he was so hurt it was hard.

He sighed. “I wanted to tell you but…” he bit his lip, trying to say this in a way that wouldn’t screw everything up, more than it already was screwed up. “When we first got together, I didn’t know if it was going to last. I don’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to maintaining a relationship. And when it did…I was scared of losing you. It was stupid to think that that made it okay to lie to you, I know that. But I was also worried that if you knew, you wouldn’t accept my help anymore. If you died because of me..that was a thought I couldn’t bear. And if you don’t want to see me anymore, I understand.”

“Caleb you lied to me. The only thing I ever wanted was some fucking honestly and guess what? Apparently I can’t even get that from the one person I trusted the most in this messed up world,” Kyle shook is head, pressing his palms into his eyes, “And I don’t even know if I can anymore..” He sunk to his knees.

“I’m sorry. And I know that doesn’t make it better in the slightest.” He walked over to Kyle, kneeling next to him. “So if there’s anything you need to do to me that’d help you feel any better, go ahead, scream at me, hit me, degrade me. I’ll take it if it helps you.”

Kyle was silent for a moment before he slapped Caleb hard across the face, “That’s for lying,” He did it again, “That’s for being a bastard,” And once more, “And that’s for making me fall in love with you.”

Caleb just took it all. After a few seconds of silence he asked, “feel better at all?”

He shrugged, “I don’t know. It doesn’t take back the fact that you lied.”

“I know it doesn’t…” he wanted to say something to defend himself but he knew it’d all just sound like bullshit. “Ask me anything. And I won’t give you anything but the truth.”

Kyle placed his hands in his lap, thinking for a moment, “Does anyone else that I know, know you’re… you know…”

He nodded. “My team knows, as well as Veronica, since she already had powers, she was the one who helped me through it in the beginning.”

“How long have you had them for?”

“Four years, result of an ‘accident’. I should’ve died but I didn’t. So of course the government hauled my ass in, trying to figure out if I actually did have any powers. In the end they determined that I didn’t have any. As for the team, I picked them up over the years, always keeping an eye out for people with powers that the government might decide to target.”

“Is… is that why you were interested in me? Because I had powers?”

He took Kyle’s hands, looking him right in the eyes. “No. I was always just interested in you Kyle. I didn’t know you had powers when I first approached you in that coffee shop, and when I found out you did have them, it didn’t change how I felt about you. I just knew that that meant I’d have to keep you safe.”

He nodded a little, looking down at there hands, “O-Okay.. is that what your ‘job’ is then? Going out and being Dark?”

“Pretty much yeah. But I do actually work a job too.” He didn’t let go of Kyle’s hand, hoping Kyle wouldn’t let go either.
