"I don't think so… What would I need a student to be handing me notes for, anyways?" Lucas glanced up at Nurse Joy.
"I don't think so… What would I need a student to be handing me notes for, anyways?" Lucas glanced up at Nurse Joy.
She glanced up and sainted. “To take tests and if you are staying here all day then you need notes.
"Ohh… I thought you meant, like, passing notes… but to answer your question, no. I don't really have any friends other than Nick."
“Great, time to make a new friend! I’ll find one. Don’t go anywhere,” Nurse Joy flattened her dress before heading to the door. “I’ll be back!” With that she walked to go find someone.
Lucas sighed and hid his face again, shaking more violently now that he was alone. He was also cold, considering he was wet from the rain.
Nurse Joy came back shortly. "I found one. His name is Jack. He'll be giving you notes. I made his handwriting is readable and he'll escort you to classes if you like."
"Hi, I'm Jake," he gave a warm smile and had a low voice.
"Hey, Jake… nice to meet you." Lucas said weakly, nodding his head a bit in acknowledgement. He generally seemed very emotionally unstable. His hair was fluffy and disheveled, his eyes had dark circles under them, and he was unusually pale.
“Come on I’ll take you to your next class, is that alright?” Jake smiled, holding out his hand
Lucas hesitantly nodded and allowed Jake to help him to his feet. He made sure not to continue holding onto his hand, though, much as his mind needed it. He followed Jake to the first class.
Jake led him into the classroom and decided to sit where Nick would have sat. “If anything happens let me know alright?”
Lucas nodded again and sat down, his foot immediately beginning to tap anxiously on the ground. He was staring blankly down at his desk, and he didn't really seem to be fully there.
Jake touched Lucas's shoulder. "I know Nick is in the hospital and that you're worried about him. He'll be alright. He's strong. He talks about you everyday. The stupid things you do that make him laugh. When you don't what a sexy term means. He tells me everything. He loves you more than anything so just believe in him alright. I think that's the only thing he wants from you. Besides him wanting you to eat more.I get it if you don't want to pay attention because Nick is in a coma, but just don't lose your way alright. When he wakes up you'll be the first person he sees. So don't do something stupid."
The rest of Lucas's body started shaking when he looked over at Jake. While listening to what he had to say, he was both blushing and on the verge of tears. He bit his lip hard, really trying not to cry, but a couple teardrops slowly slid down his pale cheeks and dripped onto the desk. He drew in a wavering breath and closed his eyes, not wanting to see his classmates' stares.
"Come here." Jake pulled Lucas into his arms and rubbed his back. "It's alright, he'll be alright."
Lucas choked back sobs, just letting Jake hug him. He didn't have the heart to hug him back. He really didn't think it was wise for him to be in here considering that all he seemed to be doing was disrupting the class.
Jake cleared his throat. "Let's pay attention, after class we can skip if you want. It wouldn't be helpful though…."
Lucas hesitated before nodding, knowing that there was no way in hell he'd be able to focus, but deciding not to voice this. He rubbed at his teary eyes and looked forwards again, promptly zoning out as he'd expected.
Jake sighed when the class was over. "Alright, Lucas it's time to go." He tapped his shoulder and jerked his head to the door.
Lucas jumped a bit when he was tapped, but seemed to get the message. He stood up and followed Jake out.
"I promise you I'm not leading you to some ditch. I'm going to take you somewhere to play. A park," Jake stated with a chuckle. "Is that okay?"
"Play…?" Lucas asked, clearly bewildered. The word felt foreign to him. He hadn't 'played' since he was twelve years old, after all. "How so?"
"The swings and slides. Maybe run in the grass a little bit. Something to get your mind off of Nick and school," Jake hummed.
Lucas shrugged. "I suppose…" He kept walking beside Jake, still seeming very tense and anxious.
"Don't look so down, He'll be alright…." Jake ruffled Lucas's hair and grinned.
Lucas sighed and ran his fingers through his hair to fix it. "How far away is the park?"
"Not too far. It's like the park of the elementary school," Jack opened the doors to the school and walked out. "We can walk there if you would like?"
"Sure. I walked here anyways, so it's not really like I've got any other means of transportation." Lucas shrugged, continuing to follow Jake.
"Well, I could always drive you," Jake chuckled. "Alright, here's a little exercise for you. Talk about the good times that you and Nick had."
"Um…" Lucas blushed a bit. Probably shouldn't say everything… "He got me out of my dad's house, so that's good…"
"Was you're dad abusive? You don't have to go into the topics if you don't want to!" Jake scratched his neck nervously.
