Kyle hummed softly, melting into the kiss as his eyes fluttered closed.
Kyle hummed softly, melting into the kiss as his eyes fluttered closed.
Caleb wrapped his arm around Kyle’s waist, pulling him a bit closer. After another moment, he pulled away from the kiss with a smile, but didn’t let go of Kyle.
Kyle snuggled into Caleb with a happy sigh, content to just stay there for the rest of his life if he could.
“Do you want to start heading back home?” He asked softly
"Yeah that would probably be-" Kyle was cut off by the noise of ice forming, making the small male look down and stumble backwards when he noticed the ice spreading from beneath his feet.
“Kyle? What’s wrong?”
"Th-The ice, can't you see it?" For once the ice was actually visible as it grew out from him.
Caleb then did see it. “It’s okay. Just stay calm.” He gently reached out and grabbed Kyle’s hand. “I’m right here.”
Kyle was doing his best, but finding it extremely difficult. When his own hand started to freeze up, he yanked it out of Caleb's grip, "I don't want you hurt."
“I know. But you can’t push me away anymore, Kyle. Let me help you..please.”
“You’ll freeze!” Tears welled in his eyes, “You can’t help if you freeze!”
“I know babe, but you have to let me help you. I’m not gonna freeze.” He slowly moved closer to him. “Trust me”
Kyle shook his head, the ice extending up his arm and around his feet.
Caleb knew they couldn’t risk causing a scene here. They were too out in the open. So despite his better judgement and what Kyle was saying, he pulled Kyle in close, hugging him tightly. His grip was strong, there was very little chance of Kyle escaping it. “I love you, so I’m not going anywhere.”
"Caleb let go. Please let go Caleb." He tried to struggle, slowly become more and more distressed and panicked. The ice extended, though it didn't seem to be encasing Caleb.
“Shh it’s okay, you’re not hurting me see?” He loosened his grip a bit. “We’re both going to be okay, Kyle. You can do this, I know you can.”
The ice made it's way up to his shoulders and the top of his legs. He stopped struggling, though the ice didn't seem to be disappearing.
Caleb was a little worried by that. “Ok Kyle, you have any idea on how we can make this stop?” He asked calmly, looking into Kyle’s eyes.
Kyle shook his head, trying to calm his breathing with no luck, "N-No… Caleb I… I-I don't know how to stop it… i-it hurts.."
His worry grew. Because honestly, this time there wasn’t anything he could do to help. “I-I…I don’t think I can help you with this one Kyle. I’m sorry..I’ve failed you.”
“I-It’s not your fault,” He offered a small smile, sad but still there, “You haven’t f-failed me.”
He smiled back with just as much sadness. “I love you so very much. How are you still so positive?” He kissed his forehead. “I’m sorry…I wasn’t good enough to save you.”
Kyle shook his head, though he didn't know it the ice on his right arm was slowly disappearing, "You were good enough… some things are just out of our control."
Caleb, too caught up in his own worry, didn’t notice it either. “I don’t want to lose you…” he whispered, tearing up again. “You’re the only person that I’ve loved this much.”
"Please don't cry Caleb. You're not gonna lose me, I'll always be with you." If Caleb started crying so would he.
“It’s not fair…” he whispered, his head buried in Kyle’s chest. “None of this is fair! I’m not just going to let you go like this!”
"There's nothing you can do," Kyle pressed his face into the top of Caleb's head, the ice gone on his right arm and slowly going on his left, "Life isn't fair sometimes."
“Don’t you think I know that Kyle? Not a lot in my life has been fair in the past few years.” He laughed bitterly. “And you know my control freak self won’t just accept that there’s nothing I can do. I was supposed to be able to keep you safe.”
"But you did. You kept me safe from some of the worst people out there. You did as best you could, and I love you so much."
“I love you too. So very very much.” He kissed Kyle’s cheek before pressing their foreheads together. He couldn’t help it now, a few tears starting to fall down his face.
