Jay kept pace with Delia, silent as his eyes flashed around the sun-dappled woods. He could almost trick himself into thinking this was just…normal. But it wasn't.

Delia's stomach growled quietly and the noise didn't seem to even phase her, almost getting blocked out by the crunching of her steps. She was happy to have Jay with her since she couldn't keep out a good watch and hobble around at the same time. Having someone alongside her made her feel a little safer.
Jay kept moving. His eyes never stopped scanning for others, in a way that was a little more wolf than watchdog, a little more predator than prey.
She stayed silent while they continued, really hoping that Jay was watching for where the road was since she wasn't. Otherwise they were lost in the woods, something that made Delia really nervous.
Jay was indeed keeping track of where the road was, thankfully, as he had no more wish to get lost in the woods than she did.
Time continued to tick by and soon the sun was past the middle of the sky, on it's track back down. Delia guessed it was about one in the afternoon, though she wouldn't place money on it anymore than she would bet her arms would feel fine tomorrow. Walking hurt, and they had been walking for a long time.
Jay was quiet as they walked. He started to angle them back to the road so that they could walk on it, and hopefully find a town before the sun was gone.
She guessed that they weren't terribly far from the road, and she was happy when Jay started to turn their path. Leo bounced alongside them, his tail wagging and ears alert for any sign of something else in the woods, either something coming after them or a squirrel.
Jay kept moving silently, wrapped up in his own thoughts. He couldn't help but wonder just how long he had left. How long until the programming was activated.
Getting back to a smooth surface to walk on sounded amazing, and her pace picked up a little even if it hurt more on her shoulders and hands from the crutches. Finally they were getting back to somewhere she could clearly follow.
Jay smiled over at her, and then turned his attention back to the road. He sighed softly.
"Have you seen anyone following us?" She asked, noticing his smile and smiling tiredly in return, "Or whatever the thing is in your head that you can sense them? Like the guy at the apartments?"
Jay shook his head. "No to both." He replied after a moment. "And Vance…no. I haven't sensed any others since we met Vance."
Delia nodded, relieved that he hadn't sensed anyone. One encounter with another like Jay was enough. "Good. Tell me if you do sense any others."
Jay nodded. "I will." He replied after a moment. He took a deep breath, running his hands through his hair.
She glanced over at him when he ran is hands through his hair, wondering if something was wrong but not going to ask.
Jay let out a slow breath, turning his attention to the road again.
"I'm so excited to get back to a road." She sighed, looking into the woods ahead of them to try to see where the road was in relation to where they were.
Jay raised an eyebrow slightly. "We are on the road." he replied.
(Crap I didn't realize they were on the road lol)
"Oh," She glanced down and smiled, not noticing the change to the road as they continued on, "We are, I didn't realize." Maybe it was a sign that her arms had gone numb from the constant pressure of walking and her pack but she didn't bother saying anything.
(lmaoo)
Jay smiled a little bit. "Mm. Yeah. It's a shit road, though, so you're forgiven." he chuckled quietly.
"Still better than the woods," She replied, smiling gently as she saw Leo run past them and towards a bird on the road, clearly trying to chase it and catch it, "He'll be a good hunting dog one day if we ever get him to not make as much noise."
Jay nodded, and chuckled softly. "He'll figure it out eventually. Once he gets control of those long legs of his."
She nodded and her smile grew a little as she watched him jump for the bird but miss by a mile as it took off. Leo didn't seem deterred though and continued romping around, looking for other things to chase, "Yeah, hopefully he'll grow into his legs and get less uncoordinated." She chuckled and shrugged, "It is funny to watch though."
Jay chuckled softly. "Mm. It is." He agreed, watching the little puppy.
Delia continued watching him as they walked, letting out a small laugh every time Leo jumped and barked at leaves or chased birds that occasionally landed. He was so curious and happy, something that brightened her day in a word this crappy.
Jay kept watching the puppy, a faint smile on his face. He sighed softly, adjusting his backpack and looking around for any signs of any towns nearby.
"How much longer do you want to keep walking before we stop?" She asked, looking around at the road for any sign of a town, "I don't think this road is going to lead to any town or at least it's not going to lead us to a town anytime soon."
Jay sighed. "We keep walking until the sun touches the horizon, unless you need to stop sooner. I want to get as far away as possible."
Delia nodded, unsure of how they were supposed to find something to eat if it was sunset when they stopped, but not going to argue. "I don't need a break yet, but I'll probably need one more break before we stop finally if that's alright."
