"No they're not alive, the food inside is just hot, it was cooked." She set the plate and cup in front of him and proceed to open the boxes, pointing to the different pizzas, "This one is just cheese, this one is pepperoni and cheese, and this one is supreme, meaning it has a ton of different toppings on it."
Oscar leaned closer to the pizzas with interest. "Um….which one are you having?" The distinctive smell of the food was overwhelming, but he didn't mention it because he didn't really have a way to verbalize the sensation yet.
"I'm having some of all of them," She said, taking her own plate and pulling a piece from each of the three pizzas onto her plate, "Just be careful, they're still hot. I'll get some milk to drink too." Honor left her plate of pizza to cool down as she pulled a half gallon of milk out of the fridge and set it next to the two of them, "If you need it."
Oscar watched carefully, then copied her movements and added a slice of each to his plate. Picking up the pepperoni slice at random, he cautiously took a bite. His eyes widened at the taste, and for several moments he sat without moving, trying to take in the flood of different tastes in his mouth. "Wow….that's really weird."
"Do you like it?" Honor watched Oscar carefully as he took his first bite, unsure if him not moving was a good or bad reaction. Either way, she picked up her own slice and bit into it as well, quickly starting to chow down. She could finish a few pieces before leaving, as long as she ate fast.
Oscar swallowed carefully. "I don't know….I've never done this before." He took another bite, then another. "Um….I think it's good?" He brightened. "It seems like it's making the hollow feeling go away."
She nodded and smiled, continuing on her own piece, "So, would you rather stay here and eat? Or come with me? Either way it works. Also, don't forget to chew your food so you don't choke." Honor picked up her plate and walked over to her couch, leaving her glass of milk on the table as she sat down, "You can take a seat too."
Oscar finished his first slice and tried out the cheese one next, carrying his plate over to the couch as well. "Um…..I guess I'll stay here….if you think you'll be safe." He seemed quite serious, perhaps confused about which of them was the one being hunted at the moment.
(Sry i was gone so long I was skiing all weekend and didn't have free time)
"I'll be safe Oscar, I'm not the one that is from a different planet," She replied, setting her half eaten piece of pizza back on her plate and standing up, "I'll have to guess what size you are though.." Honor walked her plate back over by the boxes and set it down, saving it for later before going back and standing in front of Oscar as she tried to guess what size clothes he would wear.
(It's all good! I hope you had a nice time skiing ^^)
Oscar sat very still, mildly confused as usual. "Uh, how much of the pizza do you want me to save for you? And do you have anything else here that I can eat if I'm still hungry after my pizza?"
(gotta work today, I'll see you when I see you)
"Eat as much as you want, I doubt you'll finish all three pizzas so I'll just eat whatever is left. If you do finish them all though and you're still hungry, just wait for me to get back and I'll find something else." She figured she could just get some size medium clothes and they would most likely fit, at least they would work for now. Tomorrow she would take off work and go with him to get some clothes that actually fit him and he liked, along with some new shoes.
Oscar nodded and took a couple more slices from the nearest box. "If I find another thing like the dictionary, can I look at it? I want to know more words and how things work and stuff."
Honor nodded, walking to her room quick, "Hold on, I'll get you some more books that you can read through if you want." She once again dug around and came up with a variety of books, some informational, some fiction stories and even a few random magazines that she had looked through. "Here, this should be enough for you to keep busy while I'm gone." She came back and set the stack next to the pizza boxes, looking around for her keys and money, "it shouldn't take me a long time, maybe half an hour tops."
"Okay." Oscar accepted the books with slight excitement, already starting to flip through the first one. "Thank-you."
"No problem. Now be good and don't mess with your bandages. Also, don't open the door for anyone until you see my truck in the driveway and are sure it's me." She stuffed her wallet in her pocket and walked to the door, slipping on her shoes and looking at him, "Ok? Stay safe."
"I will," Oscar promised, taking another bite of pizza. "You too. Watch out for those Goldenrod people you told me about."
She nodded as she opened the door, "I will." With that, she closed the door behind herself and got into her truck, starting it and heading to the nearest store. There wasn't any stores that would be open in her town, but in the next town over there was one, plus it was only a few minutes drive over.
(where do you want to take the pov from here? I can rustle up some side characters and maybe a plot twist during the shopping trip, or we could do a split-screen and rp our own characters at the same time, or do a timeskip, idk. I'm ok with any of those options myself ^^)
(ooo I like the side character thing personally, but its up to you :) )
(I'm good with side characters! Do you prefer a 'danger' plot twist, or a 'making new friends/allies' plot twist?)
(Maybe a good plot twist for now? lol just surprise me)
(ahaha alrighty XD)
By now it was fully dark outside, and the town was starting to settle down a bit. At this hour the nearest store was mostly empty, but there were still a few people perusing the aisles here and there. The cashiers had closed all but two checkout lanes due to the lull and were chatting companionably together near the sliding exit doors.
(sorry for the wait, having a sleepover with cousins atm)
(It's ok! I hope you have fun!)
Honor didn't even remember the drive as she pulled into the parking lot and hopped out, locking her car and repeating what she needed to get in her head. She didn't want anything bad to happen to Oscar while she was away, meaning she had to make this trip fast. With her keys now shoved in her pocket along with her wallet, she entered the store and headed straight to where the clothing selections were, trying to find simple clothes that Oscar might like.
(We did! They just left. My oldest cousin came back from college for Christmas so it was good to catch up with her ^^)
There was quite a variety, although the men's sizing for the clothes was decidedly confusing. At this point, the store was quiet enough that the cashiers' conversation could be heard fairly easily.
"You guys see that heat lightning a couple hours ago, out on the edge of town?" a young woman asked.
"Sure did," replied another, older woman. "If that's what it really was. I didn't see any storm clouds."
A male voice chimed in. "Are you saying it might have been a….what's it called….a Manifestation, like they were talking about at the press conference?"
"Coulda been, I dunno. Strange times, huh?"
The younger woman spoke again. "What do you think of the Erased Ones, Lily? The news says they're getting more common all the time….I'm kinda scared." She laughed nervously.
"Don't be," the older woman, Lily, replied firmly. "Chances are that if you met an Erased One, you wouldn't even know it. They look just like ordinary people, and they're as scared of us as we are of them. Let the police and those Goldenrod guys get on their bad side if they want to–we'll be fine if we stay out of their way."
(Oh that's nice!!)
Her focus was on the clothes as she tried to guess what would fit Oscar, but she did overhear their conversation, immediately figuring that the flash was when Oscar showed up tonight. She knew they would probably never know that she knew him, but yet she quickened her pace of looking around a little, finally settling on a few different shirts and adjustable pants along with other things for him. Now she just had to check out and then get back to Oscar.
(yeah XD)
The cashiers noticed her approaching and reluctantly dispersed to their stations, murmuring their agreement with Lily's final statement. Lily herself, a greying woman with rimless glasses, placedherself behind the counter at one of the open checkout lanes and gave Honor a smile. "I can help you over here, ma'am."
"Thanks," She said, smiling at the woman and placing the stack of clothes on the checkout lane. She didn't notice until now at how strange it could seem, being late at night and her buying mens clothing. That didn't stop her though and she pulled out her wallet, watching as the clothes got scanned.
Lily briskly bagged each item, still seeming in a good mood. "Doing some gift shopping?" she inquired pleasantly.
"Not really," She replied, fiddling with a few bills as she waited to find out her total, "Just getting things for a friend who's in town." Her eyes flicked around and she studied the store with feigned interest.
"Oh, well that's nice of you." Lily totaled up the cost and was about to hand Honor her groceries when the store's intercom abruptly came on. A man's voice came through it, sounding like he hadn't had time to rehearse his announcement.
"Good evening, shoppers, this is the manager of the store speaking. Uh, we just got a note from local law enforcement letting us know that there is a…..Type Three Erased One at large in Everett, as of this evening. They are advising people to head home and to avoid contact with strangers until they can find it and get everything under control. Sorry for the disturbance, folks, and I hope you have a great night."
Lily glanced up in surprise. "A Type Three? Why, those are supposed to be the most dangerous ones. Are you gonna be okay getting home tonight, ma'am?"
