Ferran opened his eyes. He must have drifted off….
He looked around. No sign of Alice. Where are you? He thought.

(Sorry I had to go to lunch.)
I'm downstairs, I'll be there in a sec. A moment later she entered the room. "You've been sleeping for a while, it's almost dinnertime now."

"Really?" Ferran groaned.

"Yeah." She smiled. "That means you've got to eat again."

Ferran sighed. "Well, help me get up. I need to move around."

"Are you sure?" she asked, but he was already sitting up. She braced a hand against his back and helped him stand. "Where're we going, may I ask?"

"Downstairs?" He said.

"Okay." she said, and they tramped down the stairs, almost falling more than once.

Ferran slowly sat down in a chair. "So…so maybe that was a mistake…"

Alice winced, but tried to be optimistic. "I mean, you had to get moving some time or another…"

"Yeah, I guess." Ferran clutched his leg.

"What do we do now then?" she asked. The question seemed to pop up everywhere.

"Uh.." He voice was shaking. He should not have done that. "How about…sorry…"

She looked at him. "It's fine… are you okay?" Another question that seemed to pop up often.

He shook his head. "No I'm not."

"I keep saying you need to see a doctor… I mean, who knows, what if you broke something? What if it heals wrong?"

"But…we can't go to the doctor…."

"We can if we have to," she said. "And… I think we have to."

Ferran shook his head. No matter how much this hurt, he couldn't let her do that. "I can….manage…" He grunted, trying to pull himself together.
