Hunter shrugged.
“Where’s your date, Leo?” Hunter asked, smirking when he noticed Kenzie rubbing the marks he gave her. “I’ll borrow yours, if you’re borrowing mine.”

Willow tapped Hunter on the shoulder and stepped out from behind him.

"Right here," she drawled, rolling her eyes. She shot Leo a pointed look and threatened, "If you hurt her, just know that I have a gun, a shovel, and an alibi."

Kenzie bit her lip to keep from laughing at her friend's overprotectiveness. "I'm pretty sure Leo wouldn't dare hurt me, Willow. I've got both you and Hunter looking out for me."

Leo raised his hands in mock surrender.
“Jeez, I have no intention of hurting the future sister-in-law,” he said. “How else would I get nephews and nieces?”

Willow glared at Leo as Kenzie groaned and hid her face in her hands.

"If you keep teasing her like that, she's going to turn into a turtle and hide in her shell for the rest of the night," Willow declared.

Willow glared at Leo as Kenzie groaned and hid her face in her hands.

"If you keep teasing her like that, she's going to turn into a turtle and hide in her shell for the rest of the night," Willow declared.

Hunter laughed as Leo grinned, and threw his arm over Kenzie's shoulders.
"Stop teasing my girlfriend, Leo," he said. "Don't scare her away."
Leo laughed.
"I'm going to dance with her now," Leo declared, removing Hunter's arm from Kenzie's shoulder and grabbing her arm, dragging her away.

"So, Leo, how's it going with Willow?" Kenzie asked, smirking at him. "She makes life pretty interesting, doesn't she?"

Hunter shrugged, following Willow, his eyes trailing every guest they could meet. When they reached the dance floor, he held out his hand for Willow to take.

Leo grinned.
"She's incredibly fun," he answered. "But never mind that. How's it going with Hunter? That was some intense make-out session a few minutes ago."

"I'm assuming that, since you've already danced with her at least twice now," Willow started, taking Hunter's hand, "that Kenzie told you she doesn't know how to dance?"

Kenzie's smirk faded, replaced by a more embarrassed look at the mention of earlier, as she softly replied, "It's going well. I'm very lucky to be with him."

Hunter put his other hand on Willow's waist, stepping closer towards her.
"She also showed me," Hunter replied, chuckling. "I suppose you know how to dance?"

"He's also very lucky," Leo replied softly. "And very happy. Hey, did he ever tell you how we met?"

"I do, actually," Willow replied, setting her free hand on Hunter's shoulder. "And don't believe what she says about not being able to dance. I taught her myself. She's just shy about it and thinks she can't, but for the life of me I can't convince her that she's almost better than I am."

"No, he didn't," Kenzie said, shaking her head.

They started moving slowly to the music.
"She was actually pretty good," Hunter replied. "She stumbled a little at first, but managed to keep up properly."

Leo grinned, twirling Kenzie around.
"We were kids when we first met. He was ten, I was nine and a half," Leo started. "Funny thing is, we actually met in a Masquerade party. He had a friend with him -Jordan?- and I swear, Hunter kept following his mother around like ducklings do with their mother. He was also incredibly shy, hiding behind his mother when I approached him.
"But, we actually hated each other in the beginning. He and I both are a huge fan of chocolate cake, and there was only one slice left. Guess who ate it? Me! Hunter was so infuriated, he tripped me and I fell face-first on my cake. We both were locked in a room, forced to apologize. It was hilarious, now that I think about it."

Willow nodded. "That's good. So, how is it going with her, anyway?"

Kenzie laughed.

"Oh, that's perfect!"

"It's good, actually," Hunter replied. "How's it with Leo? He's annoying, isn't he?"

Leo grinned.
"I know, right? We still hated each other, but we pretended we adored each other just to escape."

"He's been great, actually. If anything, I'm probably the one annoying him," Willow laughed.

"Well, it seems like all that pretending paid off, then," Kenzie pointed out, smiling.

Hunter looked shocked.
"He's been great? That guy can annoy literally the whole world!" he exclaimed. "I don't know how I survived."

"We became close after his fall out with Jordan," Leo said. "I was really shocked when he came to me that day. Like, we fought in every meeting ever."

Willow shrugged. "Yeah, well, maybe you just don't know how to handle him."

"Did he ever tell you why he and Jordan stopped talking?" Kenzie asked.

Hunter raised his eyebrow.
"I've known him for eight years. I think I know how well I can handle him," Hunter replied. "You, on the other hand, probably haven't even seen how he really is."

"Nah, not all of it," Leo shook his head. "He never told me, I never asked. I just know that his girlfriend had died, and Jordan blamed him for it. I also know that he got involved in a gang. He wanted to tell me, though. I didn't let him. Every time we mentioned his past, his eyes would turn dark and he'd revert back into his shell. I decided we'd focus on the present rather than the past. He started to get better, started to laugh a lot more."

"If you say so," Willow said disbelievingly. "I guess we'll find out sooner or later."

Kenzie nodded. "Yeah, that's basically what I know, too. I think he and Jordan are on somewhat better terms, now, though."

Hunter raised his eyebrows.
"Are you telling me that I don't know my best friend?"

Leo gritted his teeth.
"If I ever saw that asshole, I'll punch him in the face," he said. "He doesn't deserve Hunter. He might have been with him for a few years, but I'm Hunter's best friend."

"Oh, no, not at all," Willow replied, shaking her head. "We just might know him differently, is all."

"Mm-'kay," Kenzie said, raising her eyebrows.
