"With art like that, I bet you could get a scholarship. I can also hook you up with a job if you want. Have you applied to any colleges?" He asked looking down at Jay.
"With art like that, I bet you could get a scholarship. I can also hook you up with a job if you want. Have you applied to any colleges?" He asked looking down at Jay.
Jay shook his head. "Scholarships are for kids with better grades who don't show up to school beat up. I didn't bother applying for any; even if I got in, I don't have the money to go." He looked at Finn. "I…unless it was within walking distance of my house, then no."
Finn shook his head. "I bet your grades are fine and all types of kids get scholarships. You should still apply for places. You can even get financial aid. That, of course, is only if college is something you want to do," Finn explains.
"Yeah, but then there's the issue of housing. If it's here in this city, then dad will expect me to remain at the house, even though I…I don't really want to. And…" Jay shrugged. "I don't know."
"Most schools and scholarships require you to stay on campus. even if they don't you'll be 18 soon right?" he asked shifting in his seat slightly.
"Six months." Jay replied with a shrug. "And… knowing my dad, he would find some way to keep me home."
"You-you don't have to stay there," Finn said biting his cheek. "Or even go back."
Jay's eyes flicked to Finn, and he shrugged. "I do have to. Go back. And…I need to try and help my mom." He bit his lip, wondering what Finn meant by that last statement, but not wanting to get his hopes up.
"You can get help. that way he can't hurt either of you," Finn tried has leg bouncing slightly.
"He'll find a way to." Jay replied. It was kind of sad, really. The fact that even when he was free and didn't have to go back, he always would. He would always go back to a man who would only hurt him, even though there was no love between them, because he didn't know any other way of living, and he couldn't let himself consider that there was.
"Not if you report him. I promise he won't be able to," Finn practically pleaded. he didn't want Jay to go back to get hurt again.
"I've tried." Jay replied softly. "But I don't have any proof beyond what I say, and when a social worker or someone comes over he plays nice and tells them stories about how I get beaten up at school or whatever. The social worker investigates my school and social life, and believes him."
"Well that social workers obviously an idiot," He mumbled. His smile was gone but he kept his voice calm. "You can't go back there if he's going to keep hurting you. What if you get seriously hurt?"
Jay shrugged a little. "I'll do what I always do. Pop a few aspirin and spend the day in bed trying not to move." he replied, looking down at his hands.
Finn's eyes widened slightly. "That's not ok Jay. You should really talk to someone that will actually do something. I know someone that might be able to help."
"Nobody helps, Finn." Jay replied, a touch of…of something in his voice. "It doesn't work."
Finn placed a hand on Jay's shoulder. "I can help," Finn said his eyes watering slightly.
"No you can't. You already said that your aunt…and Poppy…" he shook his head a little, avoiding Finn's eyes.
He paused for a moment. "I-I can still try something…Anything," He whispers.
Jay shook his head. "I'll be okay." he replied quietly.
Finn shook his own head but stayed quiet. Already deep in thought still staring down at Jay. He needed to find a way to help him.
Jay watched the other boy for a moment, then looked away again, biting his lip.
Finn already turned away. Looking at the tv but not actually watching. He sub-consciously leaned towards Jay.
Jay closed his eyes, running a hand through his hair.
Finn finally stood up taking his bag to his room.
Jay glanced up when he left, then lay down on the couch, looking at the ceiling.
Finn stayed in his room for awhile. He finally came out and stopped right outside the living room.
Jay was quiet, still staring at the ceiling with his hands folded over his stomach.
Finn walked over and sat by his feet. Folding his legs. They where close to touching but the couch was just long enough that they didn’t.
Jay say up when he sat down, looking over at him.
