Aurelie watched with a small smile on her face, tapping her foot on the ground. Grace was pretty good. Then again, Aurelie wouldn’t know if she was terrible at it unless she was really awful.
When Grace was done she was smiling wide. "Did you like it?" She asked Aurelie.
“It was amazing!” Aurelie gushed. “You’re really talented.”
"Thank you!" Grace said resting her guitar on the side of her chair. Cat shifted in her seat slightly.
Aurelie smiled at Grace. “How long have you been playing?” she asked.
“Since I was 7,” Grace said her smile softened.
“Wow that’s a long time,” Aurelie replied, impressed. “That’s really cool.”
“Thank you Do you play any instruments or have any hobbies?” Grace asked. Cat listened in trying to remember if Aurelie ever talked about hobbies with her.
“I like to read and sometimes write,” she replied, smiling. “I do play the harp, but it’s only because my father expected me to play some instrument or other. I’m not very good.”
Grace nodded. “That sounds cool! What type of stuff do you write?” She asked. Cat was intrigued as well leaning forward slightly but trying not to change anything else.
“Poems, stories, sometimes even songs,” she said. “I’m not very good at those though.” Aurelie actually quite liked singing, but she hated doing in front of people. She was the princess, so everything that she did she had to excel at, and she was worried that she didn’t measure up on that count.
“I bet you are amazing! I’d love to read some one day!” Grace said her smile widening again.
Aurelie blushed. “That would be nice,” she admitted, smiling as well. “You would be the first.”
Cat felt a pang if jealousy at that but again tried not to show it. She did bite her lips slightly though. “Really? Im surprised you seem really good with words,” Grace said.
Aurelie’s face opened up for a moment. “You think so?” she asked, taking her attention completely off of Cat for practically the first time that day.
She nodded and shifted in her seat slightly. “Well I have to get back to work but I’d love to hang out another time!” Grace said starting to stand up.
“Yeah, that’d be cool,” Aurelie responded with a smile. “It was nice meeting you.”
“It was nice meeting you as well,” Grace said. “Nice seeing you cat!” She waved at her and cat waved back still biting the inside of her cheek. Cat stood up.
“Grace was nice,” Aurelie remarked to Cat, glancing back at Grace for a moment. Despite Grace being pleasant, Aurelie still wasn’t excited to have to meet more people.
“Glad you thought so. Do you want to meet more girls or do you think you guys clicked?” She asked trying to stay emotionless. She really didn’t want to sit through another conversation like that. Definitely because it was boring not because she is jealous.
Aurelie thought for a moment. She definitely liked Grace, but not the way that Cat clearly wanted her to like the other girl. However, if she lied and said that they clicked, she could get out of this. She sighed. She’s already lied enough recently, so she might as well just be honest. “Grace is sweet, but she’s not my type.” It was true enough.
Cat nodded. “Thought that would happen,” she said walking through the door. “What is your type anyway? That way I can make this easier.” She really didn’t want to ask.
You, she thought, unbidden. Her cheeks flushed for a moment as she scrambled to think of something to say. “I—I don’t exactly know. Just that Grace is more the type of girl that I would be friends with. You remember that I’ve mostly been around boys.”
Cat nodded. As they walked out of the bakery. “Hood,” she reminded Aurelie. She though for a long second. “Ok then what did you like about me? At least when I was pretending to be Grace Baker.”
Aurelie quickly pulled her head over her head. Everything, she thought. This is going to be harder than I thought. "I liked…your art, I thought it was really cool that you draw. I liked the confidence that you always had and the way that you moved like you were right where you wanted to be, even when you weren't."
Cat nodded trying to keep her face stone. “Great I should be able to work with that,” she said walking down the street.
Aurelie followed her quickly, glancing around. She was a bit anxious and she prayed no one would recognize her.
Cat turned to a small clothes shop. Opening the door for Aurelie.
“Thank you,” she said quietly, walking through the door. She gave Cat a brief smile.
