Allie watched with hunger and mild fascination. The last time she had gone camping was several years ago, and even then they had only cooked hot dogs. Allie had been living primarily off of canned food since the invasion, so barbecue (or close enough) would be different.
After a bit, the rabbit finished cooking. Logan took it off the fire, and waited for it to cool down a little before cutting it in half, handing one half to Allie and keeping the other half for himself.
Allie accepted her half with a smile. "Thanks." She blew on it to cool it down a bit more, since it was still fairly hot.
Logan nodded, and blew on his, then cautiously took a bite. He winced a little as the hot meat hit his mouth, but didn't make a sound of complaint.
Allie glanced up at him, blowing on her rabbit a bit more before finally taking a small bite. It was hot, but not unbearably so. She took another.
"Could use seasoning." Logan remarked, shrugging. He took another bite, lips curling slightly at the heat.
“Yeah. But at least it’s warm,” Allie replied, taking another bite herself. She could feel the searing heat on her tongue.
Logan nodded. "Mhm." He replied with a smile. He took another bite, looking at her for a moment.
Allie took another bite, glancing at Logan as she felt him looking at her. She gave him a small smile before taking another bite.
Logan looked away again, and kept eating. He was quiet, listening for anyone else.
(Gtg good night!)
(night!)
Allie glanced around warily as she ate, imagining that some sort of creepy person would jump out with a shotgun or something. She wished she could laugh it off, but who knew what the people Logan had glimpsed were like? They would obviously kill both her and Logan, possibly at first sight.
Logan finished his half, and threw the bones away. "I wonder what's happening back at the town." He said slowly.
“I don’t know. I hope no one else has been killed,” Allie sighed. She frowned. “At least you happened to figure out what’s happening or you might have been dead too.”
Logan nodded. "Alright. And…yeah. At least." he echoed, shrugging a little. He sighed softly, raking his hand through his hair. "You remember the girl that brought your meds? They killed her."
Allie’s eyes widened. “No…” she breathed. “That’s terrible! Good thing you got out of there when you did.” Though Allie couldn’t help but wonder whether the girl was, in fact, an alien.
Logan nodded. "Yeah. Poor Hugo was…" he shook his head. "God. I feel sorry for them." Is it my fault, somehow? Did my presence somehow cause her death?
Allie bit her lip, forgetting about her rabbit for a moment. "Me too. Hopefully those people will leave soon, and no one else gets killed." It was a slim hope.
Logan nodded. "They said they would move on eventually, but…they were going to leave a few people behind to…kill any of my kind that ventured in to the town. So. I don't know if we can ever return. I'm sorry." he looked down at his hands.
"Oh," was all she said for a moment. "It's just a town. I was planning on moving houses soon anyway. But it sounds like they're going around and hurting lots of people. I'm guessing that they go from place to place killing people and instilling fear in others."
Logan nodded. "Yeah. Under the claim of killing aliens." Killing people like me… he clenched his jaw slightly. I don't understand why I'm here. Why they just dropped me here and then never gave me any orders.
Allie frowned thoughtfully. Why were people so awful? Of course, they were probably scared of the aliens, which made sense. But killing everyone even remotely suspicious? It was murder. So many murders. "That's insane."
Logan shrugged. "I guess so." he replied, looking down at his hands again.
Allie shook her head. "I wish we had a way to stop them…" she muttered.
"Yeah, but we don't." Logan replied. "And if we did, then…" he shook his head.
She sighed again. “You’re right, but still…Anyway, do you plan on moving around? I think that would be safer than staying in the same place.”
Logan sighed softly, then nodded. "Yeah. Moving would probably be a good idea. Do you have a preference on direction, or no?"
"Only away from the city, since that's where the people who want to kill us are," she replied. "Other than that, no."
Logan nodded. "Alright." He replied, looking around again and trying to figure out which way to go.
Allie walked to her left. "Does this way work for you? It seems okay," she suggested.
Logan nodded. "Yeah sure." He replied with a shrug. "Let's go."
