Abby nodded with a soft smile. ”Yeah. I understand that. It's a little weird at first, but it does get easier.” she assured him. ”You should have seen me when I first came to the Sylvian counsel. The only thing that kept me calm was having Nyt, Adar, and Caleb with me.” she chuckled lightly.
Mark chuckled. "I'm glad you're the one that had to do that and not me. I probably would of ended up messing the entire thing up." He said with a smile. "Also, I've got a question for you."
Abby smiled and playfully slapped his shoulder. ”Don’t discredit yourself, Mark. I’m short enough for both of us.” she joked. ”I bet you would have done fine but yeah, I'm kinda glad it was me too.” she sighed a little, nodding at him. ”Go ahead. What's the question?”
"What is with up with you and Nyt?" Mark asked quietly, a smirk spreading across his face. "And Caleb and Adar?"
Abby blushed bright red at the question but smiled broadly. ”Well, it was bound to come up sooner or later… Nyt and I are… together. I don't know if Caleb and Adar are… yet, but I'm kinda hoping for them.” she admitted, holding Nyt’s hand.
Nyt's ears flushed gray when Caleb popped the question but slowly it faded. She squeezed Abby's hand back.
Mark nodded. "That's…I figured." He said with a smile. "I don't think I've seen you so happy with someone."
Abby was still blushing but happily squeezed Nyt’s hand, nodding at Mark. ”Yeah… I mean I wasn't unhappy or anything but you're right. I don't think I've felt this way before.” she admitted sincerely before smirking mischievously at him. ”You don't have a problem with this, do you?”
Mark huffed. "The only problem I have is the fact that you were able to get a girlfriend before me!" He jokingly complained. "Even a lone wolf like you is able to get a girl!"
”And I wasn't even looking.” Abby laughed, looking up at her girlfriend. ”I just got lucky that she found me.” she smiled at Mark. ”Don’t worry Mark. You can still find someone… Maybe you'll meet someone here.” she suggested, half-teasing.
"Ahh yes! I'm going to find a girl at the party where only the top ranking members of both societies are at." Mark said sarcastically. "Plenty of girl right for me."
”And the fact that you're here makes you part of the ”top ranking members of society”, wouldn't you say so?” Abby pointed out. ”Seriously, Mark. I was a nobody of a Scavenger and the adopted daughter of the blacksmith. You, on the other hand, are one of the best strategists from the camp… You could replace Myers on the council.”
Mark flushed a bit at the complement. "I don't know. Why am I even here? I'm not one of the council members, I'm not an ambassador, I feel like I'm just here because Peter and I were one of the first humans Nyt met." He said, sounding more confused than anything.
”Mark, that's not why you're here.” Abby assured him, though she was struggling a little to find the right words to explain why he was here. ”You were invited because you're our friend and deserve to be here. Maybe a little more than some of the other guests.” she added in a whisper. ”And you're helping to prove that everyone can get along.”
Mark nodded. "Yeah! Of course! I'm like a…peacekeeper? That might not be the right word but I know what you mean now." He replied back with a smile.
Nyt chuckled. "So far you're doing great Mark. A lot better the the rest of the council, might I add."
”Hey, it's a good a word as any.” Abby nodded with a smile. ”Plus, that sounds like a job we're going to need now and that you can handle easily.” she said, even if she had no authority to create that kind of a role on the spot… But she was sure going to mention it. ”Nyt’s right, you know. Yeah, you're a little jumpy right now but you're at least giving everyone a chance.”
Mark smiled and nodded. "Yeah. Thanks Abby. Also, where's Peter? I haven't seen him since we got here." He asked.
Nyt looked around, trying to spot the person in question, but having no luck.
Abby shrugged and started looking around for their missing friend. ”I thought I saw him earlier…” she said. ”Oh, over there- oh, no. Nyt, I’m going to need you to hold me back or I’m going to smack him.” she grumbled.
Peter seemed to be doing fine, mingling with everyone and being friendly… but it appeared to be coming too normally for him. He hadn't brought any of his weapons for the sake of peace to the event, however, when he walked around he kept one of his arms against his side.
Nyt furrowed her brow before lifting Abby off the ground by a few inches so she couldn't go anywhere. "Alright, but why? He seems to be doing just fine and he's not doing anythin wrong." Nyt pointed out.
”Thanks.” Abby nodded as she was picked up. ”He’s trying to look like that. It's hard to be sure from here but I think he's got a bottle on him.” she said softly, discreetly gesturing to his unmoving arm. ”Either that or he got into a fight before he showed up.”
"A bottle?" Nyt asked as she tried to get a better look at Peter. "He doesn't look like he's been in a fight from what I can see."
”If he was, he knows how to hide it.” Abby pointed out. ”We need to get over to him and find out which it is before he makes a bad impression on someone.” she sighed, actually hoping he was just hurt and not sneaking a drink.
"Alright then." Nyt said, setting Abby down and heading in the direction of Peter. "Would he seriously sneak alcohol in here?"
Abby shrugged as she followed Nyt. ”Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if he did… but I'm really hoping that he didn't.” she admitted before waving to get Peter’s attention. ”Hey, Peter!”
Peter looked up and smiled as he saw them approach. ”Hey, Abby. Nyt. Great party.”
"Hey Peter!" Nyt said, waving at him. "I think its going pretty well. What about you?" She asked.
”Yeah. It's going smoothly.” Peter smiled at the two. ”You guys really started something. Congratulations.”
Abby gave a small smile back, her face heating up slightly at the compliment. ”Thanks.” she said softly before clearing her throat. ”Are you doing alright?”
Nyt gently lead the two away from any big crowds, just in case Abby did end up yelling at Peter for sneaking something in.
Peter’s smile faltered a little for a brief moment before returning to normal. ”Yeah, I’m fine, Abby. Why do you ask?” he said raising a brow as he noticed what Nyt was doing.
”You’re hiding something and as one of the people involved with getting things this far, I need to know what it is.” Abby pointed out firmly but quietly to avoid drawing attention to their little group.
Nyt gave Peter the look of 'Tell the truth and this will be over quick'.
Peter actually flinched a little at the look Nyt gave him. Maybe because it was her height or just the fact that she was a Sylvian that intimidated him. ”It’s nothing to worry about, guys. Seriously, I just… AAHH!” he groaned as Abby suddenly gripped his arm.
Abby raised a brow and pulled Peter’s shirt back a little, revealing a bandage wrapped around his shoulder. ”What happened?”
Nyt furrowed her brow as she saw the bandage. "A Sylvian didn't do that, did they?" She asked, concerned.
