He smiled and nodded "yeah! I'm ready." He pressed a kiss to Rowans cheek "hey, everything's going to be fine. It can't get worse than what happened at dinner the other night."
He smiled and nodded "yeah! I'm ready." He pressed a kiss to Rowans cheek "hey, everything's going to be fine. It can't get worse than what happened at dinner the other night."
"You've got a point." Rowan giggled lightly, taking Harrows hand and grabbing his keys before leaving the apartment, double checking the lock. They headed downstairs and began to drive to the house. "Um..Is it okay if I don't mention we live together? I don't really know how she'll react to the whole engaged thing.."
Harrow nodded, understanding why that'd be uncomfortable and a bit akward to mention their engagement upon the first time meeting Rowan's mother.
“I love you.” He murmured, glancing over at Rowan and giving him a loving kiss after pulling into the driveway. “I’m sure she’ll love you.”
He pouted a bit after Rowan pulled away "I love you too baby, I hope she likes me," he smiled and got out of the car, adjusting his shirt and helping Rowan out of the car
Rowan grinned and took Harrows hand, spinning him around and pulling him into a kiss. He couldn’t help himself. “You are absolutely gorgeous.” He said, squeezing Harrows waist before beginning to walk up to the house.
He squeaked in surprise but kissed his beloved back. "I could say the exact same to you." He laughed and followed Rowan to the house, taking his hand and rubbing small circles on the back of his hand out of nervousness
Rowan squeezed his hand in assurance and rang the doorbell. "This is so weird." He muttered before his mother answered it and smiled widely at the sight of them.
"Oh! Come in, come in!" She exclaimed, pulling them into the large foyer and kissing Rowans cheeks, much to his embarrassment. "Look at all that hair, darling, I don't understand why you insist on keeping it long at the top. So curly." She said, inspecting him closely, only realizing Harrow was there a minute later. "And who's this?" She asked, standing up tall and gazing at Harrow with warm eyes.
"This is my- this is Harrow." Rowan replied timidly, running his free hand through his apparently 'too long' hair.
Harrow laughed quietly when they were received bysRowan's mother. Harrow gaze a little bow to Rowan's mother "hello!" He said pleasantly, pressing a little closer to rowan
Rowan’s mother frowned slightly, looking Harrow up and down. “Have I met you before?” She asked before quickly being whisked away by Rowan.
“Nope, nope. You’ve never met him. I promise.” He said hurriedly, gently nudging her towards the dining room. “What are we having? It smells wonderful.”
Harrow followed quietly behind the two, felling odd in a place he was always told by his own mother never to enter. the enemy's home, the home she was trying to marry harrow against. he took a shaky breath and clasped his hands behind him, not having Rowan to hold onto
Rowan let his mom go ahead of them and turned back towards Harrow. “Hey..are you okay?” He asked quietly, taking Harrows hands in his own and squeezing them gently. “We don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
He nodded "yeah I'm fine." He pressed a kiss to their intertwined hands "we're already here, we're not leaving now." He smiled softly and followed him to the dining room "smells wonderful madame Lancaster."
Rowan smiled and kissed his cheek quickly.
His mom let out a satisfied huff, turning and touching Harrows shoulder. “You’re too sweet darling.” He cooed, clearly forgetting about the claim or recognition earlier as they sat down.
“Where’s dad?” Rowan asked as they sat.
“He’s back home for a couple days and then he’ll be in France, and then hopefully back home by next week.” She said with a sigh, beginning to eat.
Harrow smiled at her "I have to be, I was raised French after all. Politeness is a big concern." He sat next to harrow and nodded in thanks to his mother for the food before beging to eat. "What does your dad work in?" He asked, glancing up at Rowan
"He does a lot of things, mostly real estate though. We moved here to expand his business so that's why he travels so much." Rowan explained quietly, beginning to eat as well.
His mother nodded and gazed at Harrow. "So, tell me more about yourself." She insisted.
Harrow nodded at Rowan as he explained what his father did before turning his attention back Rowan's mother "ah me? Well, I was raised in France as a kid and teenager. We came here to America when I was 17 and have been moving about ever since. I've settled down for now and work as a writer."
“Interesting. And you live on your own?” She asked, taking small bites of food in between the questions.
Rowan stared down at his food, not knowing whether he should stop her from asking so many questions. She would find out who Harrow was eventually, if she hadn’t already.
He nodded "For now, yes. I was thinking of getting a dog soon, have any recommendations for a breed?" he asked glancing up at her as he took a bite of food.
His mom immediately started rambling about different breeds and prices and how to care for them. Rowan sighed with relief and continued eating contentedly, bumping Harrows foot with his own in thanks.
He smiled both from the suggestions Rowan's mother was giving him as well as the gesture from Harrow. "Any suggestions for a larger dog? I was thinking of getting a husky." he said with a shy smile " But I know nothing of taking care of larger dogs."
"I'd wait a while for a big dog hon. Especially if you're living in an apartment. Some are easier to take care of than others, but bigger dogs definitely take more work." She replied, smiling warmly across at him. There was a slight edge to her tone when talking to Harrow, but Rowan couldn't decipher it.
(I have no idea what I'm talking about xD)
He nodded, deciding to ignore her bite, attributing it to protectiveness over her son. "I might consider a small dog then. Maybe later I'll get a larger one once I get comfortable. " he said with a polite smile and nod
They finished up dinner a while later and began to stand up to say goodbyes.
Rowan’s mother stood and rest one of her hands on Harrows arm. “It was lovely to meet you, dear. We’ll have to do this again sometime.” She smiled gently and walked over to Rowan, leading him away.
Once they were out of earshot of Harrow she turned to Rowan, a stern look on her face. “You underestimate me, Rowan. You bring a man with the last name Jacobsons into my house and expect me not to notice? You’re lucky your father isn’t home.”
Rowan stared at her, opened mouthed. He began to say something but she held out her hand.
“Don’t say a word. I completely and utterly disapprove of your engagement with him. You’re father and I will not be coming to the wedding. And he will not step foot in this house ever again.” She turned away and walked past Harrow, giving him a sweet smile.
Harrow waited by the entrance, jacket in hand. He nodded thanks to Rowan's mother for the dinner and let them talk alone while he looked at pictures of a young rowan and his family. He smiled at the pictures adoringly at then. when harrows mother came back, he smiled back at her and headed to the door "again, thank you for everything tonight, the food was amazing." he bowed slightly to her in departure and waited for rowan on the steps of the house
Rowan took a deep breath and plastered a fake smile on his face. He could usually pull off a fake smile pretty well, it wouldn’t be a problem.
He walked outside and took Harrows hand, walking back to the car with him. “So how do you think it went?” He asked cheerfully. Ill tell him soon…
"pretty well, at least better than what went down with my mom." He pressed a kiss to their hands before letting go and opening the door to the passengers side "I'll drive on our way back."
“Yeah, definitely.” Rowan laughed quietly, getting into the passenger seat and curling up in the seat. “We can stop by your apartment if you need anything.” He said quietly, gazing out the window as they drove.
He nodded, glancing over and taking his hand "you okay?" He asked after a while of driving "you've been quiet since we left the house."
Rowan forced a smile on his face as he glanced over at Harrow. “Yeah,” he took his hand and kissed it, “Just tired I guess.” He said quietly.
