Aspen unlocked the cafe and stepped inside skeptically, wondering if Jay would stand him up again. "Jay? You here?"
Aspen unlocked the cafe and stepped inside skeptically, wondering if Jay would stand him up again. "Jay? You here?"
(Would this be a good time for me to jump in again?)
(sure!! you actually had perfect timing :P)
"I'm here", Oyoyo said. "I hear Jay was shot. Is it true?"
"Yep, a lot of messed up stuff happened today. Looks like I'm the one who needs coffee." Aspen replied, trying desperately to lighten the situation. "Have you seen him?"
"Only heard about his condition. Have you seen him?", Oyoyo asked.
"Yeah, he's fine. For now, at least. What about you?"
"I'm fine, or at least staying alive. How about you? I know you care a lot about Jay."
"I'm…. Alright, I guess. My parents should be here any minute."
"Your parents?", Oyoyo said. "Are they here for a visit?"
"Sadly." Aspen turned and faced the coffee machine, brewing himself a latte. "God, I haven't seen them in years."
"At least you still have your parents.", Oyoyo sighed.
"Oh, I'm… I'm sorry. You can have mine if you want."
Oyoyo smiled. "I don't think I can have yours, but I'd love to meet them…I mean, if you won't mind."
"I don't mind at all! In fact, I was going to have them meet you and Jay."
"Sounds great! Also, could I get an iced tea?" Oyoyo couldn't wait to meet Aspen's parents. She used to have a mother and father and she almost forget what it was like to have parents.
"coming right up."
several minutes later, the door opened and a middleaged couple, a wolf hybrid and a human, stepped through the doorway. "Aspen?"
"Momma?"
The human woman dropped her purse on the floor and sprinted across the floor and into her son's arms. "Oh, Aspen! It's so good to see you!!"
The man, however, stayed put, checking his phone. "Hey."
Oyoyo watched with curiosity. She had been very young when her parents had died. By the time she was only nine, both her parents were dead. She still missed them and even watching Aspen's parents still seemed to bring back memories.
"Momma, meet Oyoyo," Aspen exclaimed, overjoyed. "She's my friend."
"Hey! I'm Sarah," The woman stated, bustling across the room to Oyoyo and enveloping her paw in a warm handshake. "I'm Aspen's momma."
"Aspen. You were supposed to pick us up from the airport," Aspen's father mumbled angrily. "Why weren't you there?"
"I'm sorry pop, I-"
"I didn't ask if you were sorry. Why are we in this trash coffeeshop anyway?"
"Umm…" Aspen stammered, thankfully concealed from his father's menacing gaze by a booth. He slid out of his apron quickly. "I wanted to buy you guys coffee before we went home."
"Where do you live, anyway? Are you still with that Elaina chic? I liked her."
Aspen's face fell. "About that. We broke up a few years back."
Aspen's father simply shook his head in disappointment. "I'll be in the car."
Oyoyo watched Aspen's father leave. "Is he always like that?", she asked Aspen. She was surprised Aspen's father was so rude. Then again, she had always hated her mother. After her father died, she ran away from her abusive mother. Those memories nearly brought her to tears. Oyoyo reminded herself she was too strong to cry.
"Just ignore him," Aspen's mom replied before he could open his mouth to speak. "Aspen, honey, you told us last night there was someone special you wanted me to meet. Is this her? Are y'all a thing?"
"Noo!" Aspen replied, embarrassed. "Jay's on his way. I think. Here, just… Drink some coffee." Aspen handed her his latte, still untouched.
(Oof drama :0 also I'm back :))))))))
(ooooooh walk into the cafe not realizing i own it and let Aspen freak out over you and Jay :P Beastie's in bed)
(btw i gotta eat dinner)
(Okie :) )
After two non-stop shifts at the hospital, Cobalt finally decided he needed coffee. After trudging back to his car, he drove to the first cafe he saw, just down the road. He peered out at the gloomy sky as he drove, noticing the small birds and planes overhead. Oh crap! He jolted back to reality, his eyes back on the road. He had a problem with gazing at the view too much - a bad habit, sure to make him crash, which he tried to break multiple times before. There was just something… beautiful. Something about the colors and the sounds and the scenery. Taking it all in just seemed - right. It was calming. As soon at it started, it was over, and Cobalt was parked in the small parking lot outside the cafe. A small silver bell rung out as he entered, but he immediately stopped. Is that… Aspen? That cute patient who got shot… is that his boyfriend?
Oyoyo was a little confused. Did Aspen's parents not know that he owned the coffee shop? Was Aspen trying to hide something from them? She decided to say anything about Aspen working at the coffee shop. Just as she was thinking it, another human wolf came in. Oyoyo wondered why he was here so late.
Cobalt regained his composure and stumbled to the countertop, hoping Aspen wouldn't notice. Then he realized, Aspen was the only one working. "Well, shit," he thought to himself as he quickly looked over the menu, trying to find whichever drink had the most caffeine. (Am I allowed to curse a bit XD)
(of course lol)
"Hello there, what can I- I mean, the barista isn't here yet." Aspen corrected himself, casting a sidelong glance at his mother. He couldn't let them see the scope of failures he had accumulated, not yet.
Oyoyo decided to start up a conversation with Aspen's mother. Maybe it would distract her long enough for Aspen to serve the next customer. "So how's your day been?", she asked Sarah.
"Well, the horses got out into the highway again, but otherwise it was good…"
While Sarah continued to rant Oyoyo's ear off, Aspen mouthed a quick thank you to her and sneaked back behind the counter. "Oh, hey, Mr. Doctor dude!! Have you seen my… my boyfriend recently?"
Hmm, Cobalt thought as he tried to understand what was going on. Maybe he isn't the barista? He sat in one of the chairs to wait.
