"Ready to go, Nick?" Cas asked, turning his reins to guide his horse out of the stable.

“Ready!” he repeated with a grin. He followed Cas, excited. He seemed almost like a little kid in his love of horses and excitement for riding.

"Where are we going to race, hmm?" He got himself a little more situated.

“Well there’s an open area not too far,” Nick mused. “They had to have somewhere the horses could run around.”

Cas nodded. "I'm sure we can find it…" He clicked his tongue and dug his ankles into the stallion's sides to get it to walk.

Nick stroked his horse’s mane and followed, looking around. He was sure that they were close.

They soon reached the field and went in. "Alright, are you actually ready now?"

“Ready to kick your ass,” Nick responded with a teasing grin.

Cas rolled his eyes. "Whatever you say, love. Can we start off a little slower? It's been a while since I've ridden."

“Sure,” Nick agreed, not wanting to admit he was a tiny bit rusty as well. He let his horse start out in a nice, easy canter.

Cas started off at a trot, but he quickly caught up with Nick's canter once he got the hang of it again. He came up beside Nick, grinning. His stallion bumped Nick's and took off at a gallop, Cas yelping and clinging to it for dear life.

Nick laughed, urging his horse to go faster and chasing after him. He grinned as the wind whipped through his hair.

Cas screwed his eyes shut, glad the stallion was able to go in a circle around the arena for now. He was still pretty much internally panicking over losing control of the horse.

“This is fun!” Nick exclaimed breathlessly. “Are you having fun?”

Cas just nodded, opening his eyes just at the right time to see the stallion approaching the fence. He panicked and jerked the reins, making the horse skid to a stop. While the horse's momentum stopped, Cas kept going forward and flipped over the front of the horse, landing hard on his back and getting the wind knocked out of him.

Nick instantly stopped his horse, getting off quickly and hurrying over to Cas with a look of concern. “Love, are you okay?”

Cas coughed, trying to draw in a breath unsuccessfully. "I c… I c-can't breathe…" He managed to choke out, clutching his chest. His horse was rearing in a panic, but didn't seem to be going anywhere.

Nick knelt next to Cas, beginning to perform CPR. He hoped that would help.

Cas grimaced, drawing his knees up as he struggled to breathe. After a minute or two of Nick's CPR, he was able to draw in a few wavering breaths on his own.

Nick sat back for a moment. “Can you breathe? Nod if you don’t think you need me to keep giving you CPR.”

Cas nodded weakly, still laying back on the ground. He was pretty dusty from the ground, but he didn't appear to be bleeding anywhere. He expected to be badly bruised by tomorrow, though.

Nick sat next to him. “No more horseback riding then, I suppose,” he commented, biting his lip. He wasn’t upset about it, just worried for Cas. He seemed fine but Nick felt as if it were somehow his fault, since he was the one who decided to ride horses in the first place.

"N-No… I'm… I'm okay…" Cas forced himself to sit up, wincing again. "I-I can get back on…"

“I think that you should take it easy for a bit,” Nick disagreed. “You’re clearly in pain.”

"We can just walk on the horses… we don't need to do anything extravagant." Cas got to his feet with a bit of struggling. "Can you help me get back on?"

Nick sighed. “Okay, if we go slowly.” He helped Cas get on his horse and mounted his own.

Cas took a deep breath and picked up his reins, carefully getting his horse to walk again. He relaxed when it obeyed.

Nick stayed close to Cas on his horse, going deliberately slowly. “How badly does it hurt?”

"Um… I'm more jittery now than anything. I'm sure I'll hurt more tomorrow." Cas adjusted his grip on the reins.

“If you need anything, I can try to help,” Nick promised earnestly, a slightly worried smile on his face as he glanced at Cas.
