"Mhmm. They're mostly just trying to get by another day like I was."
"Mhmm. They're mostly just trying to get by another day like I was."
"Nekos where i'm from are usually kept as pets and are known for being quite malevolent."
"As… as pets?" Cas asked, seeming a bit uncomfortable. "But nekos are almost humans, right?"
"Yeah, but it's mostly a demon thing. As far as I know, anyway."
"Okay… it's… it's just kind of a weird concept for me…"
"I can… understand that, though it's something i'm use to seeing."
Cas nodded. "I mean… I just think it's weird to think about myself being owned by another person as a… a lesser being, I guess. Pets don't exactly have very many rights."
"No, they don't and you'll never be owned in that way, Cas," he sighed and leaned against the back of the couch. "There's nothing I can do for them, really."
"Yeah…" Cas fidgeted with his hands. "Sorry… I probably shouldn't be so bothered about this…"
Sorin shook his head. "No, you don't have to apologize. You have every right to feel that way. It'd be kinda weird if you didn't, to be honest…"
Cas nodded. "I guess so… are… are they at least treated well?"
He opened his mouth as if to say something, but closed it immediately. How could he explain it to him without scaring him? "Um…" Sorin cleared his throat and started fidgeting with his fingers. "Well, a few do but… they're demons, Cas, they don't really…"
"Y-Yeah…" Cas looked away. "Demons, they… they aren't particularly nice, are they?"
"No, not really… I mean, a few are but it's all superficial…"
Cas nodded quietly. "Do angels ever get owned?"
"Not that I know of. Well, with the exception of me, of course."
"What do you mean, love?"
"Though it wasn't really 'confirmed', Berenice treated me as though I was her property."
"Oh… well, that's, um… that's not very nice of her…"
"No… No it wasn't. It was actually the reason why I broke up with her… well, among other things."
He nodded again. "How did she react when you broke up with her?"
"At first, she thought I was joking then when she realized I was serious…"
Cas looked up again expectantly. "She…?"
"Tried to kill me and when she couldn't get to me, she tore her servants, her pets, and a good portion of her navy apart instead."
"O-Oh…" Cas fidgeted with his hands again and let his gaze fall to the floor.
"Yeah… I wasn't really surprised, to be honest. I've grown accustomed to her violent tantrums."
"How… How many did she, um… you know…?"
He tilted his head and raised an eyebrow. "How many what, Casper?"
"…How many of her servants and… pets, and navy did she… did she kill?"
"I'm not really sure, Cas," he said quietly and crossed his arms. "I… If I were to count, we'd be sitting here for quite a while."
