Mason glanced over at Sucorra. He raised his eyebrows, silently asking if she was ok
Sucorra glanced up at Mason, noticing his unspoken question. She nodded jerkily in response before going back to her food.
Jaiden quietly walked through the room and sat down and pulled out a piece of paper and started drawing a map of the part of the school that he had been through.
Iris silently finished her food and stood up, stretching. She pulled out her phone again, checking the time. 12.52pm it read. She wondered what class she had next and she pulled up her schedule on her phone. History. Ugh, more classes she was bad at.
Jaiden looked at her classes and saw she had history. She folded up the paper and went back to eating and sketching the map she was making.
Mason wasn't bad at history. In fact, he quite enjoyed it. Most of it. He particularly liked discussing the origins of magic and powers. Mostly because he hadn't found his yet and he wanted ideas on how to get it. He packed his stuff up and prepared to head down to class. He hadn't touched the pasta, he had kind of lost his appetite after Iris admitted to having great tech skills. More than great in Masons opinion. Not just anyone could hack into the Area 51 secret radio channel. What was with that?
Evelyn looked around, “so, time for history? Let’s go!” She forced a smile and began walking away- then turned to see if anyone was following her.
Mason trudged along behind Evelyn, he didn't even try to hide how annoyed he was. Annoyed about his stupid power the just wouldn't appear. Annoyed about the test in science.
He tried to ignore the overwhelming sound in his ears as he passed groups of kids chatting like parrots. It sounded more like yelling to him. It felt like his ears could start bleeding any second.
“Mason what’s wrong? And don’t say nothing. I know it’s not nothing, I it’s not just that your annoyed, you almost look like your in pain. What’s wrong?” Evelyn fell in step with Mason.
"Everything's really… Loud" He admitted "I don't know why. It's been like this the past couple of months"
Evelyn smiled like she knew something the others didn’t. Then she screamed, “LIKE THIS?” (TRIGGER IT)
(HE TRUSTED YOU)
Mason jumped backwards, terrified. "Ow ow ow ow! Why!?" he put his hands to his ears. He looked on the verge of tears
At the other end of the hall, a kid yelled out the something or other was on fire.
(waiting for the big reveal of his power in his fight tomorrow)
Sucorra dumped her tray in the trash and silently walked to history.
Rouge ran to Mason and created a sort of soundproof headphones but all they would do was quiet things down "you may not know me that well but i heard what you said so try these" she whispered that so it sounded normal to him
"Thank you" Mason said taking the headphones and slipping them on. "That really helps"
"How did you do that?" He asked her. "Make the headphones I mean."
Jaiden walked quietly to history while making a small rock appear in her hand.
"that was a simple mass manipulation spell and i used the element of sound" Rouge chuckled as spirit played around her "and a bit of spirit to soothe any headache"
"I see." Mason lied before heading for history. His mind was clearer now in terms of physical noise but that left more room for his thoughts to take over.
"hey do need any help?" Rouge was sure that there was more to Mason then he liked to show them
"Not right now. I'm good. Just thinking."
"that can be a deadly pass time" Rouge looked at his with her galaxy eyes that seemed to be windows to space and moved as she did
"I guess it can." He was thinking about many different things at once and was finding it hard to keep talking while doing so.
Rouge let the discussion drop as they fell into a comfortable silence
Jaiden walked down the hall in complete silence.
Rouge summoned a simple sprite of spirit and fire to play with and talk to avidly
As soon as he arrived at the history classroom, Mason ran inside and sat down at his desk, pulling the headphones off and placing them in his bag. It was quieter in the classroom, away from the crowds in the hallway. He started thinking again.
His power. Something to do with sound? Noise? He couldn't figure it out.
What was on fire and why?
Iris and her area 51 radio.
Camillus's weird behaviour. He was nervous. Why? He stopped the fight. Why? He stayed awake. Why?
His strategy. He didn't actually have a strategy. At least not anymore. He scrapped it after he realized it wouldn't work.
The new students, Iris, Rogue, Jaiden.
His grades. Below zero probably. Especially in chemistry.
This all ran through his head, along with many other thoughts.
Rouge put a hand on Mason's shoulder and looked him square in the eyes "calm down i can tell you're overthinking it's on your face" as she stood she left the spirit sprite to calm him
He tried to focus on just one thought to calm the headache he was getting. The fire. Why was there a fire? What was on fire? What caused it? It happened at the same time he freaked out in the hallway. He was embarrassed about that. He had been fine for about two months and then lost it. Was the fire related to his hearing? To Evelyn's shouting? Was it connected at all? Why had Evelyn shouted? What did she know? What had she figured out?
He felt really weird about that. She had been asking him if he was OK and then became the problem of what he told her. He didn't understand it. He felt betrayed. He raised a hand to his ear. It was bleeding. No surprises there.
Rouge asked the sprite to care for Mason's headache and ear so it did just that
