(I'm all right. College sucks. But that's not new.)
Since there's not much debating going on, here's a topic for you guys:
I'm not sure whether this is really a big story outside of Canada, but to give some background, Don Cherry who has been doing sports broadcasting for Hockey Night in Canada for like 40 years recently got fired after he made some offensive comments about immigrants not wearing poppies on remembrance day.
He said "you people that come here, you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you could pay a couple of bucks for a poppy"
There's been a lot of backlash over the decision to fire him. A lot of people are saying that he has a valid point but it was a poor choice of words, while other people are saying that firing him was the right thing to do since y'know… it's hella racist.
(I don't really follow sports all that much but it's a big story right now, and I'm curious about what y'all think).
I think it was just dumb. I don't wear a poppy.
My entire family is military and I didn't wear one. (shrug)
Was it racist though?
Was it racist though?
He singled out immigrants for not wearing poppies even though lots of non-immigrants weren't wearing them. So yeah, I'd say so.
Fair assessment.
so I saw this the other day and thought it would be an interesting thing to talk about.
Is Atheism a religion?
I don’t think so. Atheism is an unbelief system. It is a negative, and therefore has no substance.
No, not in my opinion. I’m an atheist but I’m also pretty educated in religion because I have a few friends who follow certain ones and introduced me into it.
They practice and pray to things that atheists do not believe in, so they therefore do not have any “higher power” to commit themselves to.
Not to offend anyone, but a lot of people are atheists for the religious freedoms (not that I am), while most just don’t believe in a higher power.
I don't think so either. Ive just seen athiests say "it's my religion" and Im just like 'huh?'
Not that I have anything against atheists, but I think it’s hella bold to say there is no divine entity. Agnosticism is what makes way more sense.

Why do you say this?
Edit: As a certain fact I meant.
Isn’t it a little small minded (not trying to be rude Mir if you’re reading this) to be sure there is no god?
I didn't mean for you to think I was questioning you, I was more curious.
But yes even I think it is small minded to think so.
I feel like in general I wouldn't say it's a religion but I think it should be included under 'religion' in like forms and stuff.
How else would you describe it?
I'm not really sure. On the one hand, I don't think atheism's really a religion bc it's a lack of belief in a higher power, and it doesn't really have the traditions/actions/whatever of other religions. On the other hand, I don't know what else to call it.
It is the opposite of religion. Not-religion.
But categorilogically that doesn't make sense.
So when filling something out, I think atheism would be put under 'religion'.
Perhaps "Beliefs".
"General Ridiculous Claim"
Like where they put flat earthers
Bruh there was a kid in my geometry class who didn't believe in the moon landing until last week.

Huh. Guess I got the 1 Wisconsin brain cell.
