After a minute, they approached it. By the looks of it, the building had probably been a library. The faded letters on the front proclaimed “Hac tf e d P l ic br y” and it was obvious several letters were missing. This town had been completely wiped out near the beginning of the invasion, so it was as a good a place to hide out as any. Allie went around to a back door, swinging it open with a creak.
“Hello, it’s me, Allie,” she called, looking around in the darkness and waiting for her eyes to adjust. She took several steps and turned another doorknob, opening the door into a large space that must have been one of the main areas. “Hello? Rita?”
“Who’s there?” a girl’s voice rang out from above them.
“Allie,” she replied confidently.
“And who else?”
"My name is Logan." Logan called. "And i mean you no harm, if that means anything to you." He had followed Allie into this room, and looked around curiously.
The girl above them snorted. “They all say that,” she replied indignantly. As Allie’s eyes slowly began to adjust, she noticed a ladder and a balcony that wrapped all the way around the spacious room. Bookcases were everywhere, some upright and a few not, with several books still mostly intact. Allie looked up to see a slight, dark-haired girl standing on the balcony, gazing down at them. “But I owe Allie a favor, so I’ll bite. Why are you here?”
“I was wondering where the club you mentioned is,” Allie responded.
Rita smirked. “You never struck me as the partying type, but it’s quite the place. For a post-invasion club, that is. It’s in the next town over, in an abandoned high school.”
“Really? A high school?” Allie sighed. Could they have picked a worse place? High schools always seemed to reek of teenage drama and petty cliques for her. And they were never clean. Maybe she had just had a bad experience.
“Trust me, they fixed up the place real good,” Rita said, though it was impossible to tell if she was serious. “It’s called Creekwood High School. Now get lost. I have things to do.”
Allie rolled her eyes and glanced at Logan with a smirk playing on her lips. Whatever. Rita was a strange character, that was for sure.
Logan smiled back at her, and left, after taking one last curious look around the room. The strange white hairs at his temples stood out a bit in the dim light, though not much.
Allie followed him. “I should have warned you that Rita’s kind of weird,” she said once they were back outside. “She loves mystery and making herself seem above others.” She laughed, having noticed the white hairs but not sure how to bring it up. “Anyway, I know the place she meant. It’s not too far, if you think it’s still worth it. What kind of person makes a club in a high school?” Maybe Logan has gray hairs early? I think that’s a thing that happens… she thought. But what if it’s a mark of him being an alien or something?! I’ll have to ask someone about it, because if it does mean he’s an alien, then he won’t just tell me. But then why hasn’t he killed me yet? He can’t be an alien…right?
Logan shrugged. "It's fine, don't worry." He replied with a smile. "And yeah, i still want to go if you do. And hey, some High schools are pretty cool looking. Maybe they gave this one it's own unique touch." He shrugged slightly.
Allie smiled. “Okay, if you say so,” she added with an eye roll. “It’s not like we have anything better to do.” She made her way down the same road as earlier, walking for a minute before a sign announced (or at least it had announced at one point) that they were entering Creekwood. “So, what did you do for fun before the invasion?” Every easy question always included the words “before the invasion” or at least implied it, she was beginning to notice.
Logan chuckled. "Thats true." He thought for a moment. "I drew a lot. Things i saw, things from my imagination, just everything, really. I still do it, when I can, but paper and pencils are so hard to find, and i dont want to waste them." He sighed softly. "What about you? What did you do?"
“Well, I really liked to dance,” she admitted. “I’ve never been great at it, but it was fun. I liked singing too, and playing the piano, which I could actually do well. But working, nice pianos are hard to come by these days.”
He nodded, looking at her thoughtfully. "Yeah, i can see you doing that." He replied. Then blinked. "Er, not in a creepy way or anything. I just meant…hopefully you know what i meant." He chuckled softly, shaking his head. "But yeah. I always liked listening to music, though I couldn't play anything."
(Ok)
Allie laughed. “I get it,” she replied. “Music was an important part of my life.” She kept turned off of the road and walked past a couple blocks of houses before stopping in front of the aforementioned high school. “This is it, I think.”
Logan nodded, looking at the high school. "Shall we head inside?" He asked, glancing over at her with a small smile.
“We shall,” she said, and walked into the door, unsure what to expect. She glanced at Logan to make sure he was following.
He followed her with a small smile. He thought it would be interesting to see the inside, and see what it looked like.
They were met with blasting music and several people dancing or standing around and talking. It was dark inside, like most buildings, and Allie wondered how whoever was running this had obtained working speakers. A few people glanced up as they entered, though most didn’t seem to care, or even notice.
As she looked around, Allie noticed that this was probably the front commons area of the school, and wondered how far back the club went. There was a makeshift bar in front of a hallway, with a man standing behind it, polishing a chipped (but clean) glass. He regarded the two of them with suspicion, but Allie pretended not to notice.
“Well this is certainly…interesting,” she remarked, taking in the scene. She didn’t recognize a single person here, but that didn’t shock her. “What do you think?”
Logan grinned, and shrugged. "Interesting is right. And i think this looks… interesting, I have to agree. I don't know any other way to describe it." He laughed softly.
Allie smiled. “It isn’t awful,” she added. “Do you want to dance?” The song playing had been one she liked before the invasion started.
He smiled, the white hairs at his temple seeming almost bright in the dim light. "Sure." He replied, heading for the dance floor.
Allie walked confidently in front of him, turning around to face him once they got onto the dance floor. She caught her breath as she turned and looked at him, then noticed the white hairs. She couldn’t help but ask this time, her curiosity getting the best of her. “Why do you have white hairs?” She wouldn’t make him answer, but she was curious, and truth be told, a bit suspicious.
He touched his hair lightly. "What? Oh…I don't know. Stress, maybe?" He shrugged slightly.
"Oh, okay," she replied, not sure whether she bought it. She wanted to believe that he was telling the truth. She shot him a small smile before trying to dance. She was a bit rusty, but got back into the flow quickly. She was actually quite good, though not amazing, and danced like she didn't care who was watching (which she didn't).
He chuckled softly, and joined her in dancing. He was an okay dancer. Not great, but not too terrible either. He smiled lightly at her. "Hey, we van go see if they'll let us get drinks later." He suggested.
She smiled. "Why not?" She had had a little bit of beer at a party once, and her mom had let her drink wine occasionally for special occasions, but that was all. "Do you happen to know anyone?" she added curiously.
He chuckled, then shook his head. "I dont think so." He replied. "Do you know anyone?" He asked, looking over at her with a small smile.
“Nope,” she replied, smiling back. Even in the dim light, he looked handsome. She tried to dampen the fluttering sensation in her stomach. At this point she knew what was happening. Remember Alex? That didn’t end well, and neither would this, she thought. “That’s kind of a good thing though. It’d be less embarrassing if I look dumb in front of strangers.”
He laughed, nodding. "Mm. Thats true. If i get black out drunk for whatever reason, and start spouting dumb shit, just drag me back to the house." He said with a laugh.
(Oml i have like five characters named Alex and for a minute there i had a small heart attack lol)
(ahdlaksjsjs i just chose a name lol)
Allie rolled her eyes. “Please don’t do that,” she said with a laugh. “Also I don’t know about you but those drinks can’t be free and I don’t exactly have much money.”
(loll Alex is my muse, essentially. I use him as my go-to character XD)
He laughed. "I'll try not to. And i have money, and i doubt I'll find anywhere else to spend it." He replied with a smile. He thought she looked rather pretty in this lighting.
(that’s actually really funny that i happened to pick that name hahah)
“Okay, but I’m not responsible if you act like an absolute idiot,” she responded, still smiling. She shook her head. She turned to see a guy staring at her and subconsciously shifted closer to Logan, looking away uncomfortably as the guy also directed his glance.
