It's the same with Rottweilers! Everyone thinks they're so scary because they're big and are usually guard dogs, but they look so HUGGABLE!

That's completely understandable. People were afraid of my Shar Pei when he was younger because he liked to jump, my friend said that my dog hated him for whatever reason. I assume it was the scent of his other large dogs that was on him, but maybe Indy was just old and cantankerous. Shrugs.

What's interpreted to be "cute", particularly in human babies, is an adaptation to tap into what I like to call our "awww must protect" brain that helps babies survive by making people want to take care of them. The big eyes, tiny nose, otherwise small and adorable things. I think it's also an animal thing, but I'm not sure. So it seems to me that the sort of ugly cuteness perhaps stems from the contrast of stereotypical "cute" and something about the perceived ugliness of wrinkles, whether that be because some ancient, primal part of our brain says leave the old behind (which I am in no way condoning, nor do I know if that's actually a thing) or that society tells us wrinkles are bad.

It's been a while since I did any research, and that last bit was purely conjecture, so my information might be faulty or misworded.
