"You aren't the first to have tried. Riling me up, I mean." Osora said simply, her back ramrod straight. Odd posture for a teenager, but not for a ballerina. So everyone commented on the former, because she kept that bit of her life a secret as well. "I've been told I'm a bit emotionless. 'Reminiscent of a walking corpse, expression-wise', was the exact phrase used. On multiple occasions." She said, and honestly, it made sense. "So, what made you decide you needed to 'rile up' the first convenience store employee you could find?"
He shrugged slightly. "Hey, it was worth a try. As for that…well, I would have gotten in trouble had I done anything else." He smirked again. "And besides, does it really matter to you? And if you aren't riled, why did you follow me?" He looked at her again with a shrug. This girl is an enigma. If she doesn't care, why follow me? This doesn't make sense.
"I'm bored." Was all she said about that, reaching up to pull her strange hair into a short ponytail. Not 'I was bored'. As though he hadn't quite cured that boredom yet, and she was almost hoping he would. "'I'd get in trouble' sounds kind of like a bullshit excuse." She said, before jogging across the street instead of turning, without checking for cars, and somehow avoiding each one as it drove where she would have been moments ago. And she never once flinched, or showed any signs of hesitation.
Teagan shrugged. He waited, then followed her. "Hey, when your family is ten kinds of fucked up, you gotta worry about gettin' in trouble a little more." He replied. "Last time i did something big without permission, i got my ass handed to me on a silver platter." That had been the time he had "accidentally" killed someone by turning their shirt into iron and strangling them with the collar. Yeah. The whole family had had to move after that. Seriously. The entire family. That was why they were here now.
"Hm. Makes sense." Osora said, picking up the pace just slightly, searching for the burn in her legs that she loved. She didn't seem to care about looking at him, something most people did when talking to others, just fine with looking forward. "How many times did it take you getting in trouble for you to figure 'maybe I shouldn't'?"
Teagan sped up as well, keeping pace with her. "Hm. Well, I never really figured that. I just figured hey, if I don't get caught i dont get punished. So I don't get caught anymore." He smirked, yet again. "And that's the secret. You don't get caught, won't nobody do nothing." He shrugged, still keeping pace with her as if it were as easy as breathing. Which, with his long legs, it probably was.
“I’m calling incorrect information.” Osora said, shaking her head slightly and finally looking over at him. “Most of the world won’t do anything. There are people out there who will, though. People who look specifically for people like that, to make sure they don’t hurt anyone.” The way she spoke made it seem like she knew more about that than she should, almost like she had personal experience. Whether as the person getting away with things or stopping people from getting away with things, was unclear, though.
Teagan shrugged. "Havent been stopped yet, miss…?" He trailed off, raising his eyebrows. "I don't believe i know your name." He said with a chuckle. "But it's not important, I suppose. And either way, no one has stopped me yet. Ain't stopped no one in my family." Except for Uncle Henri. He added to himself. But that dont matter too much either. He kept going, staying beside her.
“Tokino Osora.” Osora said, looking forward again. “Someone will get there, don’t worry. In fact, I think you’re lucky you’re new. They haven’t heard anything about you yet.” She turned down a side street, less populated and quiet, little kids running around and waving to Osora as she passed.
"Alright. If you say so." Teagan replied. "And who's they, then?" He asked, glancing at her curiously. He shook his head slightly. Why am i prolonging this conversation? I should just leave! He thought. I'll leave after she answers my question, okay? He told himself.
“The Surutameni Jōshō.” Osora said, coming to a stop to pick up a little girl’s hat and hand it back to her, before continuing along. “A vigilante group protecting Tokyo, or I guess trying to. Has to be hard when there are so many people. They’ve been taking the internet by storm though.”
He made a soft humming noise. "I see. I believe I've heard of them. Vaguely." He shrugged. He tugged his hood back down all the way. "Well. I need to be on my way. It was…enlightening to speak with you, miss Osora." He started walking away, hands in his pockets and whistling merrily. He didn't seem to be worried about a thing, despite what she had just told him.
(God I have this random urge to make a character based off of "you should see me in a crown" by Billie Eilish but like…I have no idea what to do lol)
Osora blinked at the use of we first name, before remembering he wasn’t from around here. He didn’t have the same customs. “It’s Tokino to you, unless you’re planning on putting in the effort to be a bit more than casual accidental acquaintances.” She called after him, shaking her head as their paths split.
((I’ve never heard that one, but uh, sounds kinda badass. Big fan of Moriarty from Sherlock saying it))
Teagan laughed. "I'll call you whatever i want, thanks." He called over his shoulder, before turning a corner and vanishing from sight. He pulled the chips out of his pocket with a sigh and a chuckle. "Well. At least i got a snack." He commented to himself as he walked back towards his home. He took a long, convoluted, and winding route, just in case she followed him.
(Ooh you should totally look it up, it's my new favorite song lol. Oof same tho!! Hes an amazing villain)
((Skippito? To school or another run in with her as Scythe? And also I totally will tmrrw))
(sure! To school, maybe? Alright cool. Lemme know what you think!)
(mm could you? And then ill have Teagan waltz into class like ten minutes late or something lol)
“Okay okay, but hear me out. Matching jackets.”
King’s suggestion was met with a round of groans and a thrown ball of paper, courtesy of Rheeha. They were all in homeroom, the class they all shared together, talking instead of listening to the teacher talk. The teacher didn’t care that much. He had given up on getting them to listen, and keeping them apart, as they somehow always ended up sitting next to each other. All five of them in the back corner of the room, King and Yama next to each other, Reeha and Shou right behind them, and Osora in the last row, with the only empty seat in the classroom right next to her. Nobody but her friends wanted to sit next to her, and she was fine with that.
“That’s the dumbest thing that’s come out of your mouth this morning.” Reeha stated, adjusting her hijab in the front facing camera of her phone, earning an offended “hey!” from King.
“I’m not sacrificing my aesthetic just for matching jackets. Besides, I’ve already got a hoodie.” Osora said, after swallowing a mouthful of Kara-age that she technically wasn’t supposed to have in school.
“Your hoodie doesn’t cover anything!” King countered, throwing his hands up.
“That’s the point.”
Teagan arrived late, a backpack slung over his back and a different jacket from the one the other day on. It was painfully obvious that he wasn't from around here, with white skin lightly tanned in the sun, and broad shoulders, towering nearly a full head over even the tallest in the classroom. He came in, and looked around. It's that girl! He realized as he plopped down beside her, setting his backpack on the floor beside him. His hair was a tawny blond, with a few streaks dyed crimson. He fidgeted with his shirt, straightening it and raking a hand through his hair. He had slept through his alarm, damn it all. And now he was late, and the only seat had been the seat next to her! He swore under his breath.
“How is a cropped and sleeveless hoodie practical in any way!” King complained, his dark eyes flickering to the kid that had just sat down next to Osora.
“How are those shoes in any way practical.” Osora countered, leaning back and kicking her own boots up onto her desk. “It shoes off my scars.” That was a weird thing to say, but to her friends, it meant ‘easy access to my skin’. “Nice hair. Rob any more stores lately? Successfully?” She asked, turning to look at the boy next to her. Emotionless as ever, despite the snort her words drew from Reeha.
Teagan rolled his eyes. "Miss, i don't know what you are talking about." He replied in that strange, untraceable accent. "As for the hair…thanks." he shrugged slightly, picking at his fingernails and not looking at her. His blonde hair was messy and unkempt, sticking up at odd angles all over his head. He tipped his head from side to side, cracking his neck, and opened up a notebook, scribbling something in it before closing it again.
"Toki, please tell me you aren't making friends with petty criminals again." A boy with golden blonde hair and light green eyes said, sighing with the same weariness of a parent. He was tall and gangly, and his accent sounded a bit more American than Japanese.
"Of course not. He and I aren't friends." Osora said matter-of-factly, pulling her bag onto her lap to dig around it. A black slipper of sorts, like a ballerina slipper, became visible for just a moment before it was covered by black and red fabric. "Accidental acquaintances after he attempted to rob me. I get the feeling that's the new way to meet people. Hey King, maybe that's how you can get Aki to go out with you."
"It was not attempted robbery, it was an attempt at some entertainment. Which you failed to provide." Teagan didn't look at her, keeping his attention on the silver ring on his finger, turning his hand around and around and watching the ring catch the light. "Besides, i got away with this." He pulled the chip bag from his backpack with a grin. "That's not attempt, that's a success." He smirked, putting the bag away. "And I'm not a petty criminal." You have no idea what I've done. What i will do.
"It's an attempt when I didn't even bother trying to take it back." Osora countered, pulling out a jumble of metal vaguely in the shape of a clock and setting it on her desk, before continuing to dig around. "And my many apologies for not providing entertainment to a boy I didn't know, who was stealing money from my family."
"So that's what all that was about yesterday." Reeha said, turning her sharp grey eyes on Teagan and studying him. "You scared the shit out of Yusha, Osora. He showed up at the store and then my place."
"I was worried!" Shou threw his hands up in the air, the yellow in his hair catching the light in a contrast with the black. "She answered my call, was really fucking cryptic, and then hung up! She could have just said it was some kid looking for a thrill."
Teagan chuckled. "That was supposed to be the entertainment, miss Osora." He replied. "The chase. But you didn't chase, so it wasn't entertaining." He shrugged. He pulled out a pen, and started doodling on his hand absentmindedly, using a black pen. "And if I was just looking for a thrill, i would have used drugs, thanks." He added as he doodled. He wasn't doodling anything in particular, just random shapes and such, swirling around on his skin and drawing sharp lines and smooth curves.
"Tokino doesn't chase." King stated, shaking his head. "I've never seen her chase anyone or anything, even-" He paused, as though he had been about to say something he shouldn't. "I've seen her catch though. It's like she manages to skip the chasing and immediately hit the catching. You'd have better luck getting a pigeon on the subway to chase you."
"You guys are being rude. Nobody's bothered to introduce themselves." Ren scolded gently, before smiling brightly at Teagan. "Please excuse my friends and their lack of manners. Most people call me Yama. This is Reeha, or Nakamura, depending on the customs of where you came from, and whether you care about them." He said, pointing to Reeha, who was still watching Teagan. Then he pointed to King, who's eyes were, oddly enough, bright blue now. "That's King, the one who seems perpetually upset by Osora's inability to feel. Too many emotions himself. Yusha is the brooding one over there, but don't worry, he's not as mean as he pretends to be. And you've met Tokino already. Welcome to Mitsuo Senior High School!"
Teagan nodded. "I see. Teagan Donnelly." He replied, gesturing to himself. "As for where I'm from…I have five different passports, so I have five different places that i have at least partial citizenship in. Japan is not yet one of them." He shrugged slightly, and kept doodling on his hand. "So. I don't give a shit about customs." He shrugged again. He looked over at them, cocking an eyebrow. "I feel like i may have come across the group of outcasts in this school. Am I right?" His mouth was set in an almost perpetual smirk, and a few crimson dyed strands of hair fell across his forehead.
The group shared a look, before King burst into laughter.
"Not-not quite." He managed, inbetween his fits of laughter. "Some of us are, some of us really aren't. Yusha's one of the most popular boys in school, and I'd like to think I'm pretty up there. Yama is Yama, and everybody loves him. Either that, or they get their asses kicked. Those two are the outcasts." He pointed at Reeha, then Osora, the former flipping him off without a problem, and the latter not bothering to look up from the hunk of metal and gears she was fiddling with, a screwdriver in hand. "Sherlock and Freak."
Teagan nodded. "I see." He replied, still doodling on his hand. "Well. Technically I do not think i was wrong." He chuckled softly, looking around at the group. He ran a hand through his tawny blond hair, making it stick up all over his head. What he had said earlier about multiple passports and not giving a shit about customs was true. He had been raised so many places that he didn't really care about language and customs anymore. If the people didn't speak English, that wasn't his problem.
