“Ugh, you are the worst!” Coppershine complained with fake annoyance. “You gotta step it up if you wanna be-“ She paused suddenly.

Duckwing finished standing up quickly when he saw her expression. "What's wrong?"

Hornetkit nuzzled his mother's warm, milky scented fur. He had not yet opened his eyes but he could decipher each cat by scent. He snuggled close to Batkit and pressed against him.

“Nothing. Nothing! Let’s get moving, Duckwing!” Coppershine said. She ducked her head away and started padding towards the exit.

Batkit mewled indignantly, stretching his tiny paws out in front of him. He was smaller than his brother by a decent bit, but that wasn't going to stop him.

Duckwing trotted after her, seeming worried. "You're sure you're okay?"

Hornetkit could hear the noises of cats outside and wondered what everyone was doing. He wanted to go outside too! He shifted, mewling.

Batkit rolled away from Hornetkit, his fur getting dirty. "Now, now, Batkit… you can't run off yet." Crescentshine pulled him closer and began grooming him.

Sparrowkit blinked her little eyes open, woken up by her brothers. She let out a soft mew and snuggled back against her mother.

Batkit tried to push Crescentshine away to no avail, meowing loudly. He seemed to settle when he was set down, though.

Maybe if I open my eyes, Crescentshine will let me go outside, he thought, and he blinked open his eyes, seeing his mother's gray fur for the first time.

Batkit was the last to open his eyes, which were an icy, cloudy blue. They looked different than the other kits', but Crescentshine didn't notice this just yet. Even with his eyes open, Batkit saw no more than he did when they were closed.

"Batkit!" Hornetkit mewed happily. "You opened your eyes too!"

"…I did?" The words felt strange on Batkit's tongue, and they weren't quite intelligible to Crescentshine yet. Only to his littermates.

Sparrowkit stretched her stubby legs out, accidentally kicking Hornetkit. “Sorry!” she meowed to her littermate.

"It's ok," he reassured her. "Cr-Crescentshine! Look! I opened my eyes!"

Crescentshine looked down at her kits. "Wow, look at you guys!" She purred, nuzzling their heads. "Got your eyes open already, haven't you?" She glanced down at Batkit, who was looking up in the the direction he heard her voice from, but sort of seeing past her. She cocked her head slightly to the side in concern.

"Can we go outside?" Hornetkit begged. "Please?"

"Maybe soon, little loves…" She looked down at them fondly. "You're a bit too small right now. Maybe once you start walking." Batkit's ears swiveled around and flicked at every little noise.

"Awww, but I want to meet the other cats!" He whined, trying shakily to stand up but falling back down onto his belly.

"Soon. I'm sure some will come to visit before then anyhow." She licked his head comfortingly.

As if on cue, Eaglestar squeezed into the nursery entrance, eyes warm. "You've opened your eyes already! I'm so proud of you."

Crescentshine purred upon seeing her mate, and Batkit seemed startled. He looked around for his father, but couldn't see him. (He's blind btw if I haven't made that clear)

Eaglestar frowned. "What's wrong, Batkit?" He meowed softly, with a concerned tone of voice.

"Where are you?" He asked quietly, still trying to find the source of Eaglestar's voice. Crescentshine seemed concerned as well.

His ear flicked. "I'm… Right here.." he licked Batkit on the head and turned to Crescentshine. "Should I.. get Tawnyleaf?"

Crescentshine nodded as Batkit flinched again, surprised. "I think that would be best…"

Sparrowkit raised her head. “Mom, Dad, what’s wrong?” she asked.

"Nothing, Sparrowkit. We just… need Tawnyleaf to make sure all of you are in tip top shape!" She said, trying to keep her tone as cheerful and unalarming as possible.
