“I love you too!” Hunter called, grinning, but he forced himself to get back in his car and start driving home. His parents were already probably mad to begin with. But he didn’t pull out on to the road just yet, pausing to make sure Milo got in his apartment complex okay.
Milo took out his house key and unlocked the door, looking back one last time at Hunter before going inside. Just a second later, his sister came into the room with a sneaky smile. "So… who's that, huh?" He looked her in the eyes with a blank stare.
"Oh, just my soulmate."
She snorted. "Good one, dork!" She left and Milo quickly left to his room.
Hunter drove home, humming a little bit until he pulled into his driveway. The lights were on like last time, and he sighed. Hunter took a deep breath before turning the car off and making himself go inside. “Hunter!” Wendy greeted him at the door, capturing him in a large hug before he had a chance to step away, “We were so worried. Hunter, please, talk to us, why have you been staying out late and leaving the house? Is it something we did? Did you have another panic attack-“
“Stop, I’m fine,” Hunter managed to squirm out of her grasp, his knee jerk response looking to go to his room for escape. But there was Carl, standing in front of him giving him a look.
“Hunter, like it or not, we were worried about you. You can’t keep staying out so late without giving us a reason,” Carl said sternly, crossing his arms over his chest.
Hunter glanced between his two foster parents. For Milo, Hunter reminded himself, before finally admitting, “I found my soulmate. I’ve been hanging out with him after school and driving him home.”
His foster parents just stared at him, before Wendy finally spoke softly, “Your… soulmate? Your actual soulmate?” Hunter stared at the floor, nodding ever so slightly.
The tension hung in the air like a thick fog, but a familiar female’s voice cut in, “He’s telling the truth, I can prove it.” There was Hannah, a half a year younger than Hunter, peeking her head in from the hall. “One of my friends said she saw him with a glowing chest at the fair.”
“Hunter! You should have told us!” Wendy threw her arms around Hunter again, with a grand smile on her face. “I can’t believe it! You met your soulmate, in high school even!” Hunter even saw a hint of a smile on Carl’s face from the corner of his eye. His foster parents had let him off the hook for the past two nights, and Hunter had asked them if it was okay to have him over for dinner. Wendy was elated. Hannah kept giving him a sly smile.
Hunter hadn’t expecting it, to say the least. And he ended up going to bed happy that night.
(Sorry it’s so long oof)
(Oh, it's okay! It's great!)
Shutting the door to his bedroom, Milo pulled out his phone to text Hunter.
Heyyy~ <3
He lied down on his bed, smiling like an idiot, recalling everything from the day and the night before.
(Have you had the chance to listen to Slow Dance?)
(Unfortunately not yet because the only pair of earbuds I found were brokennnnnnn big oof. I’ll probably listen to it tomorrow when I’m the only one in the house lol)
Hunter pulled out his phone when it buzzed, even though he probably should’ve been sleeping. He immediately assumed it was Milo cause of the heart, and ended up smiling at his phone.
hey love whats up?
(Yes big big oof. But that's a good idea lol)
idk… just laying on my bed I guess
wby?
He dropped his phone on the bed and changed into his pajamas, picking up his phone and crawling in bed after.
missing you already
my parents said its cool to have u 4 dinner Sat.
Hunter smiled. They’d just have to get through Friday, and they’d figure it out from there. And Milo could meet his family too. He’d already threatened to kill Hannah if she embarrassed him.
!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!
Milo yawned very big.
im soo tired… im going to bed
gn love <3
He couldn't wait for Saturday, he would just have to survive through Friday and most of Saturday.
gn love
Hunter texted back, before stripping and flopping in his bed with a smile. He loved Milo. A lot. Sleep caught him like a cloud, and he drifted off into blissful dreams of Milo that night.
~Time Skip~
Waking up before his alarm, Milo was eager to see Hunter again. He had slept very well with Hunter appearing in his dreams. He threw on some clothes and made sure he had everything in his backpack.
good morning!!! When are you planning on coming to pick me up?
Hunter head actually just finished getting ready when his phone buzzed. He smiled when he saw it was Milo.
im on my way over rn actually lol
Hunter grabbed his backpack over his shoulder, and Wendy shouted out a motherly ‘I love you’ just as he walked out of the house and got into his car. He could stop smiling on his way over until his got to the apartment. When he parked the car, he quickly checked on his rearview mirror to make sure his hair and face looked nice.
i see your car outside!
Milo quickly got the rest of his stuff, saying goodbye to his sister on the way out the door. With a huge smile on his face, he waved to Hunter and hopped in his truck, scooting to the middle seat. "I missed you so much!"
“I missed you too,” Hunter told him with a smile and a peck on the cheek. He tucked Milo into his side before starting the car and driving back into the road. “How’d you sleep, love?” Hunter decided he would definitely never get tired of calling Milo ‘love’.
(Also I just listened to that song—it was so good! It fits Hunter and Milo sooooo perfectly lol)
"I slept really good… you didn't leave my mind once either." Milo melted into Hunter a bit. This was the best way to start the morning. There was also nothing that could make Milo more excited than having dinner with Hunter's parents, he couldn't wait.
Hunter smiled, giving Milo a sweet kiss on the top of his head. It wasn’t long before they drove up into the school parking lot, a bit earlier than most days, but Hunter was happy because it meant he could spend more time with Milo before classes started. “Maybe do you want to go in first and I’ll come in a few minutes after you, and we can meet in the bathroom near the main office?” Hunter asked, smiling a little. The bathroom would be perfect, most people avoided it since it was close to the office.
(Ikr!?! It's definitely my favorite song rn)
Milo sighed as they pulled into the school parking lot, but he wasn't worried since it was so early. He smiled, "That's a great idea! No one ever uses those so we'll be fine." Shifting a little, Milo hugged Hunter, taking a deep breath relaxing into him.
Hunter put the car in park, wrapping his arms around Milo lovingly. His chest glowed brightly, and he just smiled. He couldn’t ask for anyone better than Milo. His soulmate was perfect.
Milo smiled, loving Hunter's presence and embrace. He could never get tired of it. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath again taking in the familiar smell he now associated with love, with Hunter. His chest was a warm glow, not quite blinding yet.
(Another song that might fit with Hunter and Milo is called My Lover, My Friend also by AJ Mitchell)
(Ooo I’ll have to listen to that one tomorrow I really need to get a new pair of earbuds)
Hunter kissed Milo’s forehead one more time before saying, “Alright, I’ll meet you in there?” Hunter jerked his head towards the school. “We can hang out in the bathroom before school starts.”
(Tbh I couldn't live without earbuds… but you definitely should!)
Milo nodded, slowly opening his eyes noticing some cars arriving as well as one of the buses. "Okay, see you in a bit." Hesitantly, he let go of Hunter and sat up straightening his shirt and running his fingers through his hair. After sliding to the door he looked to see if anyone was around, then opening the door and leaving the parking lot.
Hunter sat back in his chair still smiling a bit. He loved Milo so much…
“I can’t believe that nerd never showed yesterday,” Jacob muttered to Chase, the two of them hanging out not too far away from the main entrance of the school, but far enough away so they wouldn’t be seen at first glance.
“We’ll get him this time. Hopefully Hunter will show up soon, I’m sure he’d want to get a taste of the action,” Chase replied with a smirk.
Milo walked up to the main door, noticing Jacob and Chase he looked down pretending he didn't see them. He went into the school, taking a breath as the door closed behind him. Before going to the bathroom, he stopped by his locker to make sure he had everything for class.
Chase and Jacob’s eyes followed Milo in, one smirking to the other before they began trailing him until the nerd got to his locker. Jacob approached from behind, grabbing Milo by the shoulders firmly. “Hey Mr. Know-It-All. You didn’t go to your locker after school yesterday,” Chase said in a taunting voice, coming right up beside him.
Milo tensed up, he'd forgotten that Hunter hadn't been the only one that bullied him… his friends did as well."Y-yeah… I didn't…" Oh Hunter please come… bell please ring… He wasn't ready for this, a wave of Deja vu mixed with fear rushed over him.
“Huh? What was that, you little-“ Chase’s last word couldn’t be heard when Jacob slammed Milo into the locker with a loud bang, before quickly pulling him away and beginning to steer him towards the closest bathroom.
Milo winced as he was slammed against the locker, his heartbeat rising as well as his breath. He stayed quiet since that always seemed to be the best thing to do. If he said anything ever it seemed to anger them more. He had easily gotten used to no bullying so he was terrified at this point.
