“Yeah, I know,” Coppershine replied. “I… I’m just trying to work out some stuff at the moment.”
“Yeah, I know,” Coppershine replied. “I… I’m just trying to work out some stuff at the moment.”
"I'm just trying to figure out how badly you're hurt." Duckwing said simply.
Dewpaw made it to twolegplace, closing his eyes as he followed the scent of catmint. The smell of dogs and other cats here was nearly overwhelming, but he kept his cool.
“From my run in with the tree? I’m not hurt at all. Thank you, though,” Coppershine replied.
"Are you sure?" Duckwing gently licked her cheek to smooth down the fur.
“Mmhm. Yep. Totally fine,” Coppershine said quickly. “Although… you’d better do that again. Just to be sure.” The poor she-cat was not good at being at the receiving end of affection, but she was trying her very best.
Duckwing laughed and licked her again, this time on her forehead. His soft purrs were audible as he sat down.
Coppershine plopped down next to him, cautiously intertwining her tail with his. “We don’t seem to be getting much hunting done. And I’m ok with that.”
"Eh… we can hunt in a bit." Duckwing yawned, glancing around at the trees.
“You make a fantastic point,” Coppershine mumbled, already getting sleepy. “I’m just gonna nap right here. You’re my nest now.” She curled up next to Duckwing, purring softly.
"Alright, have fun with that. If you don't wake up soon, though, we might just have to leave you~" He joked, letting his paw fall over Coppershine protectively.
“You love me too much to leave me all alone in the forest, don’t you?” Coppershine looked up at him with half-closed yellow eyes.
"I dunno. Maybe." Duckwing hummed, nuzzling the top of her head briefly before going back to watching their surroundings.
“I thought I’d at least get some reaction from-“ Suddenly, Coppershine paused. She sprang to her feet urgently. “Duckwing, there’s a fox! I can scent it!”
Duckwing jumped up as well, looking around. "I smell it too…" He stood in front of her, very wary.
Dewpaw gathered his catmint with a soft sigh and trotted back into the forest. He froze at the strong smell of fox, hearing rustling in a nearby bush.
“I think it’s in those bushes over there,” Coppershine muttered, gesturing with her tail.
The fox jumped out and Dewpaw screamed, dropping his herbs as he started to run.
"It's after someone! I… I don't recognize their voice!" Duckwing looked around anxiously for the fox, his fur standing on end when he smelled a bit of cat blood.
Dewpaw jumped through the bushes to try and escape, his fur getting caught in the brambles. The fox had scratched his leg, but he luckily wasn't seriously injured.
“Oh no! Are you ok?” she asked Dewpaw. Coppershine turned to Duckwing. “Do you think we can fight it?” she questioned.
Dewpaw cowered beside Coppershine while Duckwing nodded gravely. He started to give off a low growl and pounced on the fox once it fought its way through the bush.
With a yowl, Coppershine joined in the fight. She clawed at the fox’s muzzle viciously, and with a leap, landed on its back.
Duckwing bit the fox's neck and dragged it to the ground, holding the head down to the best of his ability while he tried to bite its spine.
((I'm back y'all, just imagine Lilypaw went off by herself for a bit))
Coppershine ripped up clumps of orange fur and scratched deep lines down the fox’s back. Snarling, the fox shook her off, and raked a huge paw across her belly. Coppershine yelped, but struggled back to her feet. “Get back to camp, Dewpaw!” she cried. “Warn them!”
Lilypaw raced towards the fight, fear rising in her chest. The giant red thing was like nothing she had ever seen before. She skidded to a halt as she saw Dewpaw. She unsheathed her claws and leaped into battle.
The fox picked her up in it's Jaws and shook her until she was flung into the air, hitting a tree, and going unconscious. Luckily Tawnyleaf was behind them and grabbed Lilypaw by the scruff, hauling her back to camp.
Dewpaw nodded and ran, stumbling a few times because of his leg.
Duckwing hissed angrily and pushed Coppershine out of the way when the fox brought down one of its huge paws. He was knocked over and winded briefly before he bit down on the fox's paw.
Coppershine nodded in thanks to Duckwing before sliding under the beast and clawing at its stinking belly, leaving deep red lines. She let out a roaring cry. This monster did not get to ruin her day with Duckwing!
Tawnypaw ran beside her apprentice towards camp, Lilypaw weighing her down and making her even slower. They finally burst into camp, panting
Duckwing jumped on the fox's head and dug his sharp teeth and claws as deep into its neck as he could. He managed to strike its neck and, with Coppershine's help and a temporary struggle, it lay dead on the ground.
Dewpaw collapsed before he made it back to camp, panting. He was dazed and his vision was starting to leave him as he looked back at the wounds on his leg. After a bit, he lay his head down with a sigh and let the darkness take him.
Coppershine panted from exertion. “That was… a lot,” she said to Duckwing with a grin. She collapsed suddenly, blood slowly dripping from the claw marks on her belly.
"Coppershine!" He was at her side instantly, nosing at her bleeding belly. He started to lick the wounds to try and stop the bleeding.
