“Very,” She replied with a laugh at Leo’s bark. He was going to grow up to be an amazing dog, she knew that. Her focus drifted back to not falling down the stairs and she went silent, as much as she wanted to talk with him.

Delia sighed and stretched out her back as she reached the next floor down. Her eyes drifted to him and she saw he was still there, “You can go on ahead, I don’t mind, I’ll only be a little bit longer.” She started down again and went over her list of supplies in her head to make sure she hadn’t forgotten anything.

@gracehustle

“I’ll see you soon Leo,” She called out after him, smiling and making her way down the stairs faster. “If only the elevator still worked,” She grumbled, though wasn’t mad as she hobbled down and kept her weight off her leg. There was no way to tell how much longer she would have to not use her leg and she liked it less and less every day.

@gracehustle

Delia sighed and got back to hobbling down, a tiny smile still hiding on her face. Several hundred steps later, along with almost tripping a few times, she got down to the main floor. “I’m here Jay,” She called out, taking a small break over by the stairs and rolling her shoulders.

@gracehustle

“See any sign of anyone?” She asked, scooping up Leo with a growing smile again and holding him close to her chest. As long as they weren’t moving at the moment, she didn’t need to get her other crutch from her pack just yet.

@gracehustle

Delia smiled and nodded, her stomach grumbling. She sighed and glanced down at it, shrugging, “Well then, should we eat and then get on the road again? As long as your super sense isn’t going off and saying there’s another nearby.” She laughed as Leo licked at her face and she pet him, “You little goon, stop it or I’m going to have to set you down.”

@gracehustle

She scrunched up her nose at Leo’s continuous licking and set him on the ground gently, nodding at Jay, “I’ll remind you and myself to eat sometime today, that way you won’t have to deal with me collapsing or passing out or anything.” With a little maneuvering, she tugged her other crutch out of where it was stuffed and pulled it under her arm, leaning on it.

@gracehustle

“Keep moving,” She decided, sighing and picking Leo up once again, “Hold on bud. Hey, Jay, do you still have that sling you used for Leo when he got tired? I think he wants to stay in my arms but I sort of need them to walk.” Delia knew she was getting a weak spot for the little puppy and would do almost anything for him, and as her mind kept repeating more persistently than Leo, for Jay too.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Jay nodded, and pulled out the sling. "Yeah. Want me to help you put it on, or can you do it yourself?" He asked, chuckling softly. "I think he likes you better than me. I'm the meanie that had to bandage his paw up still." He looked down at the puppy with a smile. Leo wagged his tail, still pulling on her pant leg playfully.

@gracehustle

“I’ll probably need your help,” She decided, laughing lightly, “And yeah, I think that’s true, but I’m sure he’ll like you as much as much as I do eventually.” As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized what she had said and quickly tried to cover it up, her face bright red, “He’ll like you as much as he likes me, is what I meant.” Her eyes flicked to Leo and she waited for Jay’s reaction to her slip up, her blush spreading down her neck and over her ears.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Jay lightly slipped the sling over her, adjusting it. He paused, raising an eyebrow. "Uhm. Okay." He said slowly. She…was that…? Hmm. He shook his head slightly. "Do you want Leo on your back or on your front?" He asked. Leo kept tugging happily.

@gracehustle

Delia looked down at the puppy and thought for a moment, “Probably front. I don’t want him getting squished by my bag. I can do that though.” She hoped Leo didn’t rip a hole in her pants before she could get him into the sling, her blush very slowly fading from her face.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Jay nodded, and picked up the puppy to put him in the sling. Leo squirmed in his arms, licking wildly and wiggling. Jay chuckled softly. "Ready?" He asked Delia.

@gracehustle

“Let’s get going.” She nodded after shifting the sling around, getting it comfortable while Leo wiggled around and looked around. With her bag on her back with the food in it and a puppy on her front, it was a lot to carry, but she would manage. She smiled softly as the puppy tried to lick at her face before settling down, tail thumping against both the sling and her chest as he looked around.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Jay smiled, and nodded. "Alright." He started walking to the door, keeping an eye out for other people. Leo kept wagging his tail, sticking his head out of the sling and watching as she walked.

@gracehustle

Delia followed behind him, her eyes flicking around somewhat warily. Being out in the open again made her normal paranoid feeling return and she had to get used to it again, especially with Leo moving around unexpectedly and causing her to be even more on guard.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Jay kept walking, then waited for her to catch up so he could walk beside her. Leo squirmed a bit, then calmed down, his head poking out of the sling and his tongue hanging out of his mouth happily.

@gracehustle

Delia was silent as she walked along with him, smiling as Leo settled in for the journey ahead of them. She had no clue how far they were going to make it today, but she wanted to try to cover just as many miles as she did without her crutches.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Jay was quiet, glancing over at her for a moment. After a while, he said, "We need to start working on training Leo. In the evenings after we've stopped." Leo panted softly, head still sticking out of the sling.

@gracehustle

She thought for a moment and nodded in agreement, “Before he gets too big and doesn’t listen to us, yeah.” Her eyes flicked to the puppy and she continued forward, away from the buildings and towards the very very far away, but still there, west coast.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Jay nodded. "Yeah. Right now we can still pick him up and if he nips, no big deal, hes still a puppy. But when he's older, if he nips, it'll hurt." Leo wagged his tail.

@gracehustle

“So, what should we train him to do? I can help, I’m used to working with and training animals because of my past.” She pushed away the thoughts that invaded her head and cleared her throat. Leo was going to be interesting to train, especially with barely any way to praise him for doing something right besides constantly catching something to become treats for him. He would eat through the food too fast if they used that as praise.
