Jay raised an eyebrow. "Uhm. Thanks?" He said slowly. Why did she say that? What… He sighed softly.
Jay raised an eyebrow. "Uhm. Thanks?" He said slowly. Why did she say that? What… He sighed softly.
“Welcome,” She hummed, her body winning the fight to sleep again even as her mind continued to protest. All she could do was hope she wouldn’t get any more nightmares and embarrass herself by having him wake her up again.
Jay nodded, and rolled back over, closing his eyes tiredly.
With Leo tucked next to her side and both Jay and her gun close enough for comfort, she slipped into a light sleep, curling her body instinctively and protectively around Leo.
Leo snuggled up to her, licking her cheek slightly before closing his eyes to sleep. Jay fell asleep, curling into a ball.
Her mind was surprisingly blank as she slept, no dreams bouncing around. Every so often she did wake up out of her light sleep though, at any noise that could be human. She sighed and curled up closer to Leo every time it was nothing, waking up bleary eyed to a noise that definitely sounded like quiet footsteps.
Jay drifted in and out of nightmares that got worse and worse, until he woke up with a strangled gasp, breathing hard. He sat up, closing his eyes and biting his lip.
Delia glanced over at Jay, her eyes wide at his sudden movements. Her eyes flicked back to the door and she stayed quieter than a mouse, listening for the footsteps again.
(is this a hint to bring back Vince? Because I can if you want, lol)
Jay swallowed, trying to control his quick, heavy breathing. Calm down, calm down, it's okay. Ssshh, it's okay. He thought to himself.
(Lol it’s up to you, she’s extremely paranoid at the moment so either would work)
Gently, she reached a hand over and rested it on his shoulder, wanting to comfort him as much as she could without turning her attention away from the door. Leo was still fast asleep, shifting around and pulling closer to her side in the little ball he was curled into.
(lol alright)
Jay jumped slightly, then closed his eyes, raking his hands through his hair. He didn't say anything.
Her eyes flicked to him and she kept her hand on his shoulder as her other hand reached for her gun. She grabbed the barrel of the gun and held onto it tightly, her hand shaking noticeably.
He glanced back at her, and raised his eyebrows slightly. "If you're planning on shooting me, do it while I am asleep." He said softly.
“I’m not going to shoot you, but I am going to shoot anyone that walks through that door,” She whispered back, looking over at him with slightly scared eyes, “There’s someone out there, I can hear their footsteps.”
Jay stood up, grabbing his gun and striding to the door, opening it and looking out.
Delia sat up and pulled her gun into her lap, feeling her heart beat a mile a minute. She could tell she was paranoid, but she was almost sure there was someone out there. Leo just shifted around and snuggled closer again.
Jay looked around carefully, frowning slightly.
“Anyone our there?” She whisper-asked, eyes still flicking around. Seeing Vince had really messed with her, but thankfully he hadn’t messed with her nightmares quite yet.
Jay shrugged. "Not that I can see, no." He replied, coming back in and setting the gun down.
Delia sighed, putting her gun back where it was before and pressing her face into her hands. “Sorry..” She mumbled, rubbing her face, “I shouldn’t have got you up. My brain is playing tricks on me.”
He shook his head. "It's fine…better safe than sorry." He replied softly.
She nodded, laying back on the bed and rolling so she was facing away from him. It was clear she was still disappointed with herself for getting him worked up, or more importantly, for her brain going crazy and thinking she was in trouble when she wasn’t. Delia closed her eyes and tried to get some sleep, hoping she would sleep soundly and without nightmares.
Jay sat awake, taking deep breaths and trying to calm down from the nightmare. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry mom. Dad. He thought.
Her breathing eventually slowed and her chest rose and fell, the only telltale sign that she had fallen back asleep. Leo had woken up when he heard them talking though and looked around, padding across the bed away from her and to Jay where he promptly curled up beside him and helped comfort him.
Jay began to pet Leo, biting his lip slightly. He glanced at Delia. She's asleep. Good. He thought.
Leo leaned into the petting and his tail wagged, clearly enjoying the attention once again.
Jay sighed softly, and picked Leo up, holding him and still petting him. He bit his lip slightly. I should…leave. Let Delia travel on her own. She would be safer without me.
Leo’s tail wagged even more at being picked up and he settled into Jay’s arms, content with the attention. Delia rolled onto her other side, facing the two of them. Her arm was acting as a pillow for her head and she curled into a tight ball, her hand reaching out for where Leo had laid next to her and finding nothing.
Jay kept petting the little puppy, closing his eyes and leaning his head against the wall. He sighed softly, biting his lip. There was so much he didn't understand anymore.
Leo settles into his arms and got comfortable, the puppy’s eyes dropping closed again. Delia hadn’t woke up yet, and there were no nightmares to scare her awake quite yet.
