Elizabeth absentmindedly traced the tattoo on her wrist, thinking for a moment. "You - you really don't have to do that."
Elizabeth absentmindedly traced the tattoo on her wrist, thinking for a moment. "You - you really don't have to do that."
"No, really, it's no problem, you're one of us now," Loren smiled.
"What's that?" Gracie asked, pointing to Elizabeth's tattoo, just noticing it.
Elizabeth immediately put her hand over the marking. "It's - nothing. It's nothing."
"Don't push her, hon," Loren said gently, giving Gracie a warning look.
"I wasn't- Fine. It's ok Liza, if you don't want to tell me, it's fine," Gracie rambled, hoping she was saying the right things.
Elizabeth nodded silently, staring at the floor for a moment before making a decision. "They gave it to me at the… facility that I… stayed at for a while," she explained quietly.
"Hon, maybe we should give her some alone time…" Loren warned Gracie, giving her a look that said, We're probably pushing her too much.
Gracie didn't want to leave, but she didn't want to push Elizabeth too much, so she just nodded in agreement, and turned to exit the room.
Elizabeth nodded, then turned to her backpack, pulling out a journal and scribbling wildly in it, pouring all her emotions and everything that had happened onto the page. She wasn't quite sure what to do when she was finished.
Loren and Gracie were downstairs making dinner, but Loren took a break so Gracie called Max and made him help.
After several minutes of sitting and not knowing what to do, Elizabeth cautiously walked over to her door and peeked out, tentatively walking down the stairs to see what was going on.
Loren had walked back into the kitchen to check on the kids, and spotted Elizabeth out of the corner of her eye. "Liza! Come on down, what would you like for dinner? The kids are just preparing some salad."
"I - um - I don't - " Elizabeth stammered, pressing back against the wall.
Hearing the commotion from the kitchen, Gracie quickly rinsed her hands, and joined Loren. "What do you like?"
(I have to die for a little bit, sorry!)
"I'm not - I'm not really hungry," Elizabeth protested. What do I like?
(Oof that's fine)
"No no, my growing children must eat, they need their nutrition," Loren insisted.
Elizabeth sighed and closed her eyes for a moment. "I don't have a favorite food or preference."
Loren's face grew concerned. "Are you sure? We have plenty of food, but more importantly are you aware of any allergies or medications that you have/need?
"Er, no, not that I know of?" She replied quietly, her statement sounding more like a question.
Gracie figured she wasn't needed anymore and went back to the kitchen.
"Alright," Loren replied, and called back to the kids, "Make some spaghetti too!"
Elizabeth decided to go back upstairs to her room and sketch in her journal.
Noticing Elizabeth leaving, Loren called out one final message, "I'll call you down when dinner's ready!"
"Thank you," she answered, not sure if she was being loud enough for Loren to hear her.
Loren could hear the faint "thank you" over the boiling of the water and the squishing noises? that came from what she assumed was the meatball meat. half running and half walking over to the kitchen she found gracie putting the spaghetti in and max, tossing a ball of raw meatball meat into the air, and picking it up after it landed on the cutting board and reshaping it. "max, what on earth are you doing?" she asked.
"um… making meatballs?" he replied sheepishly, embarrassed that he'd been caught.
After a few minutes of sketching, Elizabeth grew tired of it and paced back and forth in her room. What do normal people do when they're bored? She asked herself, and answered herself with a shrug. Absolutely no clue.
Fiiiinally after everything was sorted out, Loren sent Gracie upstairs to tell Elizabeth that dinner was ready. Knocking lightly on the open door, her head peeking in, Gracie said in a light voice, "Hey mom told me to tell you that dinner's ready!"
Elizabeth jumped, putting a hand on her chest. "You nearly gave me a heart attack!" She said before realizing she had raised her voice. "Thanks - thank you."
"Oh, did I scare you?"
Elizabeth quickly shook her head. "No, it's - I'm fine. Thank you."
"Alright, well dinner's ready in any case," Gracie replied, taking note of Elizabeth's jumpiness. Liza! Okay, I have to call her Liza, she scolded herself in her head. Even in my head, I need to get used to calling her that!
Elizabeth nodded and carefully walked past Gracie downstairs and standing by the kitchen. Am I supposed to serve myself? Is this one of those families that serves you? Gods, it's been too long since I did this.
(I think I'm going to have to take a personal break from this for a while… see you in a couple hours…)
