He blushed faintly and touched her cheek as he moved closer, his cheeks reddening as they were close again. "It's not your fault, Nyir. I don't blame you," He murmured, shutting his eyes a little, his lids still heavy. "I trust you."

Her hands came up to the hand he'd laid on her cheek and held it. Trust? She didn't deserve his trust. "Are you in pain?" she asked softly, feeling the heaviness of guilt weighing down on her shoulders.

"No, I'm not in much pain." He yawned slowly. "Just sleepy. When can we go home?" He asked once he realized they weren't back at her apartment. He stroked her cheek gently with his thumb, stirring a little to sit up.

"Soon," she promised hollowly. She knew that the apartment wasn't a safe spot at all, but she had no idea where else to go. And James was not at all fit to travel. "They're giving you some blood, then we can leave."

James grunted softly and tugged on her to sit with him, leaning against her for support. "Alright. You look pale. And tired. Maybe you should get some sleep?" He suggested gently, sitting up a little to look at her face.

She snorted lightly, allowing herself to be led to sit next to him. She laced their fingers together, staring down at their hands. "Sleep is what got us into this mess. I'm going to stay awake, and I'm going to make sure you're okay."

James tilted his head against hers, his gaze still flitting to her profile and sighing softly. "I bet we're safe here, Nyir. You look really sleepy," He tried sympathetically, tugging on her gently to lay down. "Please? I'll stay awake and wake you up if something's wrong."

"There is no way I'm letting you stay awake while I sleep," she said, shaking her head but still allowing herself to lay down beside him. "It's more relaxing for me to sit here and know that you're safe than it is for me to sleep."

"Nyiiirrr please? I'll wake you up, I promise. I'll stay right here and find something to do." He settled down next to her, wrapping his arms around her and leaning his head on her collarbone and smiling up at her.

She lowered her head so that her chin rested on the top of his hair. She wanted to sleep. She really did. But she knew she'd either wake up moments later from nightmares, or she'd sleep through an attack. She sighed, "Alright, alright, I'll try. No promises that I'll actually fall asleep though."

"I'll protect you," He said with a small laugh, snuggling closer to her and smiling happily. He loved his Nyir, but wouldn't tell her yet. He didn't want to push it too far. He listened to her breathe and hummed, waggling in place. He had quickly become cheerful again.

"You'll protect me," she repeated, laughing lightly. She pressed an almost imperceptible kiss to the top of his hair. "You are so cute sometimes." She let her eyes close, all her other senses still cognizant.

"Yeah! I'm not cute, I'll protect you." He hugged her tight and kissed her cheek, a big sloppy one. "I want you to feel as safe as I do. Though I doubt that'll happen for a while at least," He said thoughtfully, tilting his head.

"Maybe someday," she said, entirely unconvinced. She didn't really care about her own safety very much. She was much more concerned about James. What was she going to do? How was she going to protect him?

(This is the last post. I think James just got attacked but I don't really remember the plot lol)
