Jair waved a hand in front of her eyes. "Hey, Kana?" He said, laughing softly. "You're staring."

She snapped back out of it, and color rose to her cheeks. "Um, s-sorry," she laughed nervously, fidgeting with her fingers.

Jair laughed. "It's alright." He replied, leaning back on the bed slightly. His room wasn't big, and it wasn't fancy, but it had definitely become home for him. On the dresser was a small painting of his mother, who was darker skinned, and where his mixed race heritage came from. There were also various articles of clothing scattered around the floor.

Kana looked around his room and gestured towards the picture of his mom. "That's your mother, right?" She figured she would use this time to get to know him better. Despite how much time they spent together, they didn't know too much about one another.

Jair nodded. "Yeah." He said with a small smile. His mother lived back in his home country. Which wasn't this one. He sighed softly. "And that's my underwear." He muttered, reaching down and throwing the offending item in the dirty laundry hamper.

She chuckled softly. "When was the last time you saw her?"

He sighed. "Mm…five years ago?" He shrugged slightly. "We send letters back and forth." He smiled.

She looked at him, sympathetic. "You should see her again." She paused. "After you heal, we should do that."

Jair nodded. "Yeah…" He looked at her. "If you're willing to let me go for that long." He wondered suddenly if she'd noticed the scars on his back yet.

"If it makes you happy, then, of course, I will," she smiled at him, but it seemed slightly sad. "After all, you've done so much for me…" she trailed off, yawning

Jair shrugged. "Mm. Thank you." He said softly. He smiled lightly. "Well, I've just done my job."

She shook her head, making her hair block her face. "Jair, you really have no idea how much you've done."

Jair raised an eyebrow. "Oh? What have I done? Am I in trouble?" He asked with a small smile.

"Yes." She spoke with a normal voice, but behind the wall of her hair, she was suppressing hysterical laughter.

"What? What am I in trouble for?" He asked, suppressing a smile.

She turned to him and grinned, her voice starting to show that she was trying not to laugh. "Remember that time you accidentally spilled water on me?"

Jair nodded. "Yeah, why?" He asked, smiling.

"Capital offense!" She burst into giggles. She was fully aware of how childish she seemed, but she didn't care. Considering she wasn't allowed to have a childhood, she thought that this would be fine.

He laughed. "Oh, no! Are you going to chop off my head? Or…throw me to the sharks?" He grinned.

"Worse," she laughed. "I'm going to make you spend the night with that old governor!"

"Ohhh!" He collapsed backwards onto the bed. "You wouldn't do that to an injured man!" He protested, laughing.

"Oh, but I would! How dare you disagree with me!" she mocked what the governor said. "Off to the dungeons with you!"

Jair groaned, and twitched his body. "Can't walk." He replied, peeking over at her, smiling.

Kana smiled, her laughter subsiding. "A shame, really."

Jair shrugged. "Mhm." He agreed.

A wave of regret slapped her upside the head. She wished she could do something for Jair, but what? She sighed.
"If you had three wishes that would come true, what would you wish for?"

He raised an eyebrow. "Personal question." He remarked, sitting up. "Uhm…are there any limitations?"

"You can't wish for more wishes."

He nodded. "I would wish for the power of teleportation. I would wish my mother lived closer, and…" He hesitated. I would wish for you to like me as…more than a friend? He shook his head slightly. Where had that thought come from? He shrugged. "I don't know."

"Aw, nothing else?" She grinned. "You wouldn't wish to be the King of this kingdom?" She asked, half-teasing, half-serious
