Beatriz smiled. "Oh, that's cool! I cannot play any wind instruments," she explained.
"Ah, well. I probably can't play the instruments that you play." Henry smiled. Then he looked around them. "Um… Bea, would you like to dance with me?"
Beatriz smiled. "Oh, that's cool! I cannot play any wind instruments," she explained.
"Ah, well. I probably can't play the instruments that you play." Henry smiled. Then he looked around them. "Um… Bea, would you like to dance with me?"
Beatriz smiled, thinking for a moment. "I suppose, but I am… a really bad dancer."
Henry took her hand, laughing as he dragged her out on the dance floor. "That's fine! I'm a terrible dancer too!" That was definetly not a lie.
(So… I just found a fanfic that is The Selection combined with Percy Jackson… can it get any better?)
Beatriz laughed. "Oh, wonderful. Now we can fail together."
(No. No it can not get any better.)
Talin frowned slightly, “Have you tried hiding your earnings from your mother? Or just buying what you need right as you get the money so she can’t take any?” It pained him to think that most people didn’t live like he did, and like Cassie, had to support all their siblings and even their parents.
"Oh trust me, I have. But the drunker she is, the easier it is to deal with her. Besides, we don't need another situation like she got herself into with Luke and Reina." She loved her youngest siblings even if they were only technically stepsiblings.
Beatriz laughed. "Oh, wonderful. Now we can fail together."
"Exactly!" Henry laughed too and placed a hand by her waist, the other hand holding hers. "Okay, here we go…"
(I just really, really hope that the grammar is good. Fanfictions with messed up grammar are really annoying, in my opinion.)
"Oh, god, I'm going to fall," Beatriz groaned. "Okay, I'm going to try not to trip you."
(UGH, as a grammar nazi I most certainly agree. If there's more than 2 mistakes on the first page, I'm just done.)
"If you fall, I'll catch you." Henry looked at her with a crooked little smile. "Unless I fall too. Then we just have a dam problem."
okay I should probably stop with the PJO references now but… "You're catching me too, Superman. But I ain't holding your hand."
Beatriz laughed. "If you say so," she said wryly.
(Okay I love you for those references)
(Thanks lol)
Dancing on, or at least trying to, Henry kept the conversation going. "So, Bea. Do you have any plans for the future? If you don't win this, I mean."
Bea laughed. "I'm not going to win. I don't know, I'll probably just go back home and go back to being a stereotypical 'starving artist' type," she said thoughtfully.
"Okay, one: There is nothing that says that you won't win. And two…" Henry looked her in the eyes. "Is that really what you want to do with your life? I mean, if you like it, then that's great. But… is there nothing more? There is so much to explore!" He laughed.
"I'm… not really the exploring type," Beatriz said uncomfortably. "I do what I'm used to doing."
"Oh. Okay, that's cool too. I'm more like… I want to do everything." Henry laughed. "That's why I took this job. I wanted to see the castle from the inside. And because Jade is here. I hadn't seen her for a while."
Jade walked around the room, looking for something to do. She had already visited the desert table twice. She couldn't really do that again. Everyone else seemed to be busy doing something. She wanted to be busy doing something too.
Beatriz nodded with understanding. "That's nice," she said thoughtfully.
A guard suddenly walked up to them. "Your shift by the main entrance starts in a few minutes, Mr. Isaksson."
"Ah, yes. Thank you." Henry turned to Beatriz again. "I have to go. But if you have time… maybe I can see you sometime again?"
Beatriz nodded nervously. "I - thank you," she managed before walking back to stand against a wall of the room.
"Oh trust me, I have. But the drunker she is, the easier it is to deal with her. Besides, we don't need another situation like she got herself into with Luke and Reina." She loved her youngest siblings even if they were only technically stepsiblings.
“”what happened with Luke and Reina?” He asked, quickly adding, “You don’t have to tell me anything if you don’t want to.” As he talked, he continued dancing with her, spinning her briefly and gently before dancing with her normally again.
"Well Luke and Reina are my youngest siblings, they're twins. They're also technically not my siblings. After Dad died, Mom started dating this one guy from a couple neighborhoods over. But one day, Mom realized that this guy got her pregnant. And when she told him, he took off. Since I didn't want her to become an Eight, I made sure she didn't have any guests until she gave birth, of which I had to midwife. Did I mention I was six? I had to leave school at six years old to take care of my four year old brother, two year old sister, and my now newborn stepsiblings."
He listened with a nod, waiting until she was done to comment, “Wow…is that why you’re here? To raise your siblings?” Her story was crazy, but he was sure she wasn’t lying. No one lied about their family.
"Pretty much." She shrugged. "I've left Vincent in charge and I've been training him since we were kids so I'm pretty confident he'll do okay."
Talin looked down at her with slight concern, “Are you sure? I don’t want you to loose your siblings just from you being required to be here. Is there anything I could do to help?” The song was slowing and he hoped he would get an answer before the song stopped completely.
She smiled a little. "If you'd be willing to help my mother quit her drinking addiction, then possibly. But please, don't stress about it, you're already doing so much for me and you've got plenty of other responsibilities to look after. Don't let my broken home life take up more of your thoughts than it has to. I've lived for this long with it, I'll be fine."
“I could see what I could get together to help her,” He suggested with a small smile, “Where are you from? Just so I know what region I’m working with.” The song stopped and so did he, half bowing to her again before taking her hand gently and leading her off of the dance floor.
Jade had nothing to do, so she went to annoy Marcus. He was just standing by the wall, looking bored and a bit uncomfortable.
"Marcus."
"What?"
"I'm bored."
"Okay. What should I do about that? It's a ball, go dance with someone."
"I have no one to dance with."
"Still not my problem, Jade."
"Will you dance with me?"
"No. Go find the Prince or something."
"He's busy."
"I'm busy too."
"No, you're not. You're just standing there."
Marcus sighed and pushed back some hair. "That's called guarding, Jade. Look it up."
"Oh, come on. I know that you're not guarding tonight. Most of the guards are invited to dance with us contestants. Besides, aren't you supposed to be polite to me?"
He pretended to think for a moment. "Actually, no. I think Talin would agree with me on that you need some rudeness against you sometimes. You're really annoying at times."
Jade snorted. "Rude." Then she left him to start walking around the room in boredom again.
