August snorted. "Yeah, the two most awkward teenagers in the town coming over just to say hi. No matter how crazy they are, we'll just look crazier."

@WriteOutofTime

August plugged in his phone. Eighteen new notifications? He didn't have friends and he didn't recognize the numbers. He scrolled through them.
come to the party.
come to the party.
All of them said the same thing.
"Come to the party?" he repeated.

@WriteOutofTime

"I don't know, either," he admitted, brushing his floofy hair out of his face with a frustrated gesture. "I just want to know what the hell is happening."

Sunlight streamed from the window through the small slit in the curtains. August's eyes fluttered open. There was a weight leaning against him. He glanced to the side and smiled. Frankie was asleep, slumped against his arm. His smile disappeared as he remembered the night before. "Frankie, wake up."

"You need to check on your mom," he said, shoving her off of him with a decent amount of gentleness. "I gotta check on my parents. Remember?"

@WriteOutofTime

He pushed himself to his feet, hurrying down the hall. "Mom? Mom?" She was by the coffee pot. She turned to face him, her face appearing surprisingly normal, albeit tired and worn. "Hey, Gus," she greeted, yawning. "God, I can't remember a thing. Guess that party went sideways."

"What…?" he said, gazing at her with wide eyes.

@WriteOutofTime

"Morning, dear," she said with a natural smile, "Stayed the night, did you? How's your cold?" She glanced at both of them, clearly trying to insinuate something happened between them.

She smirked, nodding. "Of course, dear. Modern medicine is a miracle." She held up a bottle of tylenol. "For example, this puts a slight dent in the hangover headache I've got."
