Kyle snuggled into Caleb, yawning softly, "Mkay… goodnight."
Caleb stayed awake long after Kyle drifted off. Caleb didn’t know how many of these peaceful days they’d have left. The fact that everything going on was ‘peaceful’ just went to show how terrible things were about to get. Caleb knew he’d really meant what he said. He’d do anything for Kyle. He’d do anything to make sure he’d survive all of this. At this point…Caleb didn’t care what it cost. If they didn’t find a better way to manage Kyle’s sickness soon, there would be bloodshed.
Kyle on the inside new that there might not be a way to get rid of the sickness. After him and Caleb's fight earlier… he would try, at least, to keep hoping that there would be a cure but… he didn't know anymore. He just wanted things to go back to the way they were before.
Caleb sighed quietly to himself. For a second he wished he’d never even met Kyle. Then Kyle would have lived out his life in perfect safety and Caleb would’ve never had to experience this fear and pain of losing someone. He quickly pushed the thoughts away, afraid of what would happen if he let those ideas keep going. They’d only bring him more pain.
Kyle managed to stay asleep all night, for once. He ha a few mishaps where he nearly woke up but he never did, thank gods. He needed the sleep.
Caleb on the other hand slept terribly, drifting in and out of consciousness until around four in the morning when he finally fell into a deep sleep. He’d definitely be sleeping in.
Kyle woke up first, blinking up at Caleb. He could tell he didn't sleep well. He reached up, running a hand through Caleb's hair softly.
Caleb didn’t wake up but leaned into Kyle’s touches, a small smile appearing on his face.
Kyle smiled too, humming quietly to himself as he continued to play with Caleb's hair.
He was still out like a light. He was clearly exhausted. After a while of Kyle stroking his hair, a small frown took over his face and he seemed to just get more restless. It seemed to be another nightmare.
He brushed his hand down Caleb's face, humming slowly changing to quiet singing to hopefully calm him down a little.
It helped a little and for a second he did calm down. But the nightmare wasn’t willing to let him go that easily. He started shivering as if he had a fever, and his breathing only came in sharp inhales.
Kyle shifted a little and sat up slightly, "C-Caleb?" He whispered quietly, nudging him to wake up him.
He didn’t wake up. He seemed to only be getting more panicked by the second as well.
He nudged Caleb again, a little harder this time, "Caleb wake up."
That seemed to work and he woke up with a loud gasp and then immediately started coughing uncontrollably.
"Caleb!" He patted him on the back, unsure of what to do to really help.
Caleb flinched and moved away from him a bit. He stopped coughing enough to grumble "Don't look at me." Before launching into a smaller coughing fit.
Kyle moved his hand away, a confused pout on his face, "Why?"
“J-just don’t.” He said, basically shifting to hide his face from Kyle. He sounded weird too. Something was off.
"C-Caleb, what's wrong? Y-You're scaring me…" He wanted to know what was wrong, he wanted to help.
“I’m fine.” He grumbled very unconvincingly.
"No, you're not fine, don't lie to me."
“Well I’ll be fine.” He said in a tone that was a bit sarcastic even for him. He coughed and he actually appeared to cough something up this time into his hand. “Shit-“
"Caleb I want to help," He slid off the bed and headed round so he could stand in front of him, "Let me help."
Caleb quickly looked away. This almost didn’t seem like Caleb.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, "You're not… Caleb… are you?"
“What the hell is that supposed to mean? Of course it’s me”
