“I find life boring without a bit of color!” Zane shrugged. “But you don’t have to have an artistic flair in order to hang a picture of yourself or a loved one on the wall.”

Cat lays on her air mattress in her tiny room. She gets a text from a girl in her school. "Hey, I'm having a party Saturday. Could u come with some stuff? you know the usual." Cat texts a quick "Yea, see you then." Back before texting Zane. "Hey, party this weekend. Rich kids house going to need some coke, molly, and maybe weed"

Zane looked down and fished his phone from his pocket when he felt it buzz. He looked up at Obadiah and gave him a quick, “Sorry, give me a moment,” before returning his attention to his phone. A text from Cat. ‘Okay. When do you want to meet? I’m busy currently.’

"Anytime you're free. I can meet you tomorrow before the party if you want. Also if you are with Obadiah lethim know." She texts back.

Obadiah glanced curiously at Zane’s phone, “Who’s that?” He sat up in his chair, leaning against the table on his arms.

Zane read the text and stuffed his phone back in his pocket. “Cat. She’s selling at a party tomorrow,” He said.

“Ew.” He snarled his lip, “Anything but a party” he ran a hand down his face, “but parties bring in good money,” he reasoned.

“Yep. But you know my rule, I won’t provide for a minor unless a close eye is kept on them. I don’t need children overdosing or driving high on my conscious. I trust Cat to not let anyone try and drive or something like that,” Zane explained.

Obadiah started genuinely laughing, “It-It’s Okay to give drugs to minors, but it’s not okay to let them drive with it—that’s so messed up.” He stood up from the table, “But you know I don’t sell to kids, it’s against my moral code.” Ah, Yes, his very slim moral code reserved for his close friends and small children, only recently modified to include anyone under the age of 18. He wasn’t a monster, he told everyone who was surprised he wouldn’t hurt their child.

Zane shrugged. “I don’t really care about it for weed, but for harder stuff I don’t let anyone sell to minors unless they’ll be present.”

"You tell 'em your mom was in the military," Nyir said, her brows lowering. "If they keep messing with you I'll kick their asses, and then kick their parent's asses, and then probably their grandparent's asses."

Thalia smiled. "Thanks." She said hugging Nyir tightly. "I love you, Mom."

"Love you too," she mumbled into her daughter's hair, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "Are you hungry?"

"Yeah." She said letting go. "I can cook if you don't feel like it."

Nyir smiled at her. "It's alright, it's just frozen stuff. I'll handle it while you get started on your homework." She headed over into the kitchen, rummaging around in the freezer. "What are you in the mood for?"

"Hmmm, do we have pizza?" Thalia asked, sitting at the table. She grabbed her worksheet and read the instructions.

Nyir peered in the fridge, then remembered painfully that Thalia's favorite frozen pizza brand had jacked up their prices by two dollars. That was two dollars Nyir didn't have to spare. "We're out of pizza, but we have fried rice and some chicken tenders."

"Okay, that's cool." Thalia said, smiling at Nyir.

Grateful that her daughter was understanding, but saddened that she had to be, Nyir pulled out the food, scrapped two servings onto a plate, and turned to put it in the microwave. Her hand went numb and locked up, and the plate went crashing to the ground. "Shit," she mumbled.

Zane shrugged. “I don’t really care about it for weed, but for harder stuff I don’t let anyone sell to minors unless they’ll be present.”

“Yeah, me neither about the weed.” He Agreed, “But anything else I’ll just refuse purchase.”
He reached up to stretch, “Speaking of, Want a drink?”

“Sure,” Zane replied. From drugs to home decorating to drugs. Sounds about right for a conversation with Obadiah, He thought.

Obadiah headed up the stairs to go get the drinks for both him and his friend. He whistled a very monotone tune on the way.

Thalia stood up, walked over to her mom, and started cleaning up the mess. She handed Nyir the plate. "Here."

"Sorry," she said through gritted teeth, feeling shame wash over her. She took the plate and placed it on the counter, leaning against the edge until her hand slowly began regaining feeling. The damage was getting so much worse and she didn't know what to do. With a sigh, she began putting food onto the plate again.

Zane pulled out his phone to play a game and softly hummed as he swayed side to side in his seat.
