“Sure,” she said with a shrug. “And if they catch us, I’m going to tell them to kill you first.”
“Sure,” she said with a shrug. “And if they catch us, I’m going to tell them to kill you first.”
"Eh, well," Kye pulled himself out of the hole they had created. "They'll probably go for me first anyways, they don't know you and likely won't see you as a threat." He glanced back at her. "Their mistake."
Hunter snorted. “Well, if they try to touch either of us, I might just bring a cave down on their heads. By accident, of course. Totally accidental.”
"Completely. Just take out the central support beam, you'll bring down the mountain. Two miles away," Kye smiled as they continued. "Oh, why am I always dragged into the situations? Can't they get someone else? I need my evil doppelganger to come over here and like knock me out, tie me up, and just take over being me for a while. I wouldn't complain."
“Evil doppelgänger? You do have a story,” Hunter said, laughing slightly. “Maybe if we get out of this, you can tell me. Plus, I don’t want to take out the supports for the whole mountain. That would crush us as well. But see here,” she said, pointing to a spot in the wall, “if it add pressure here, this entire cave will collapse.”
"I mean I wouldn't exactly complain if you dropped it on us…" Kye looked back and grinned. "It would give me a break and it would give you a break. And as for the doppelganger, I don't know if I actually have one but you know, the possibility of parallel universes exists out there."
“Very true,” Hunter said. “And then I wouldn’t have to save this place again. Honestly, I wish the gods would just let this place burn.”
"I have said the same thing about my home planet, but then, if it did, the gods would just make a new one and likely force everyone to worship them. I don't know if I would be able to stay dead if I knew that," Kye sighed. He continued through the cavern. "My mother did always say I was to kind for my own good. That was just before she was ripped apart and I murdered hundreds of people. Stupid things like that."
Hunter gave a small wince when he talked about his mom, but other than that, didn’t seem to notice. “Yeah, well the only point of this place is to help heroes ‘be better versions of themselves’ and of course I was the one to help them. Because of my stupid parents. Sometimes I wish I could just blow up the entire planet and say that it was an accident.”
"Great, better version of me…" Kye stopped, and looked up like he was thinking. Or talking to some sort of god. "Nope, I can't think of a way for me to be better.you can't turn a demon into anything but a demon."
Hunter rolled her eye. “Well, they sent you for a reason, whatever that reason was.” She brushed her hair from her face. “And I don’t know why they think that I’d be a great help. I mean, my father is bloody… a power-hungry, backstabbing bastard.”
"Well my dad was the thing that raped my mother so…" Kye shrugged and continued. "I guess we both pretty mush have just straight up shitty family situations don't we?" He laughed a little. "Just a couple misfit kids running around thinking we can play hero. No one wants us, no one likes us, the friends that we thought we had just shoved us into holes and left us to die." He baled his fist and kept walking.
“There’s a difference, though,” Hunter said, her tone light. “You’ve had friends. You know how it feels. I’ve never gotten close to anyone. I do t want what happened to my parents to happen to me. My mom thought my dad loved her. He never did. He was just using her. And then I was born, and he decided to use me.”
"I didn't have friends. They just stuck around long enough to stab me in the back and literally throw me into a hole and leave me for dead," Kye didn't turn to look at her. "First introduction to caves. Thrown into a pit to die. Why did I decide to stay in a place that was suppose to be my tomb I don't think I'll ever know. Again, we're both a couple of misfit kids that don't belong anywhere."
Hunter laughed bitterly. “Got that right. Makes me wonder sometimes why I’m even still here if no one needs me.” She clenched her fists slightly, feeling her nails dig into her palms.
Kye stopped and turned to look back at her. "When we're done with this, I want to meet your dad."
Kid what on earth are you playing at? You do not want to meet her dad, he sounds like a maniac!
But if I can use my mastery of words I might be able to make her life a little better. Even if it makes mine worse.
You really are to good for your own good.
Yeah, shut up.
Hunter shook her head. “No, you don’t. At all. Ever. You’d be better off not meeting him. Everyone who does is better off not knowing him.” She shuddered slightly.
"Well then I should definitely meet him," Kye decided. Not giving Hunter the chance to argue he turned and walked into the next room.
You really have a death wish don't you?
Better than living in hell. With a bunch of crappy people who talk far to much, and don't understand anything.
Ouch.
Not you, and you know that.
“Absolutely not,” Hunter said firmly. “He will tear you apart with his bare hands and laugh while he does it.”
"Well that would be one less thing off my bucket list," Kye replied distractedly as he looked around the room. "And that would mean that I would no longer have to deal with the annoyance of living."
Yes but I don't want to die!
Good for you.
Hunter snorted. “Whatever.” She didn’t want Kye to meet her father. She wasn’t easily scared, but her father terrified her in a way almost nothing else did.
"Come on, let's get that key and get out of here," Kye sighed before moving forward again. He steered them around some traps and then stopped them. He slowly turned to look at Hunter something in different in his eyes. "Didn't Order say something about dragons?" he spoke softly and slowly.
“Yes, she did,” Hunter said warily. “Why do you ask?”
"Because something is hovering just above us. And it's breathing," Kye breathed. "And something tells me that it isn't friendly." Something suddenly flashed down smacking Kye and sending him flying. A huge dragon dropped down in front of Hunter growling. Kye had hit a stalagmite and slid to the ground coughing. The dragon placed itself between the two people.
"Hunter," the dragon growled, it's tail whipped out as it looked Hunter in the eyes. "Princess Hunter. I wonder what your father would do if he knew that his most precious pawn was dead." It's growl filled the cavern and it's tail circled around behind Hunter.
Hunter laughed harshly. “He would probably kill you. You should know, Jax. You know how he is. If you harm one hair of my head, he will nmurder every single one of your kind.” She clenched her fists. “And while I hate him, I would laugh as I watched you get torn to pieces.”
"But you wouldn't be able to would you?" the dragon stalked around looking at Hunter through narrow eyes. "You would be dead. But don't want you to just die, that would be to nice. I want you to ssssuffer." It turned and looked at Kye, who was struggling to his feet. "You're feelings for this boy should be enough to make you feel pain."
Kye looked at the dragon, it was blurry. Everything was blurry. One of his ribs was broken, and he hit his head. The dragon looked back at Hunter. "And you won't be able to do anything to stop me will you?" The dragon hissed as it twisted sickly around Hunter. It's nose brushing the arm that had the snake around it. "Your friend won't let you hurt family will it?"
Hunter rolled her eyes. “You’re not family. You’re a pet.” She spat the word angrily. She raised her sleeve to get her snake and bit her lip in frustration. It clearly didn’t want to fight. It was small and not moving. “Guess I’ll have to do this myself.”
"You won't be doing anything," the dragon snarled, and somethings suddenly grabbed Hunter and held her down. "You're going to watch while I take the only thing you ever had feelings for even slightly, and I rip it away from you." It turned on Kye and charged.
"Oh, shit!" Kye snapped as fire shot towards him. A purple barrier shot up and surrounded Kye causing the fire to disperse around it.
How on Earth Did you manage to piss off something you haven't even ever talked to before?
Raw talent…?
Well just do me a favor and Do not die.
"No promises," he spat leaping out of the way and trying to disappear in the shadows. Unfortunately the dragon easily followed. "Shit. Shit. Shit!" he bounced around, like a jack rabbit that had been stung by a bee, as he dodged the dragons attacks. "You know, Hunter, whenever you feel like jumping and helping. I won't complain about getting saved by a girl."
Hunter scowled. She closed her eyes for a moment, and then when she opened them, they were glowing gold. She was almost vlinded by the barrage of golden sparks that were everywhere, pitting the weaknesses in everything in sight, and even some that weren’t. “Leave. Him. Alone,” she said, voice a deadly calm. She whirled around and jabbed her thumb at the thing holding her. It collapsed with a tortured scream and she moved towards the dragon, watching. She could hit him in the wing first. It would cause pain. She would torture him until he was begging for death, and she would not give it to him. Ever. Of her father wanted her to be a ruthless killer, she would be ruthless. But not a killer. This scum didn’t deserve death.
The dragon didn't pay attention to Hunter, it merely chased after Kye crashing through the cave breaking anything that got in it's way. "Stop moving and let me kill you," it hissed. Kye spun around suddenly and faced the dragon. He had his dagger in his hand and it was already lit.
"Alright," he shouted, sweat gleamed on his forehead, and his eyes sparked with something that looked dangerous. "You want me? Well," he spread his arms out. "Here I am. Come and get me if you can." He spun on his heel and started sprinting forward.
Kye, that is one of those trap thingies…
I know.
And you're headed right for it…?
Yeah, just trust me okay?
Not to be mister doom and gloom but you are not fast enough to get past that thing before it shoots out. Do you want me to put up a shield-
No! If the dragon sees the shield it will instantly know what is happening and it will pull bac-. The dragon slashed out hitting Kye and throwing him sideways. Kye hit the wall and slid to the ground, he felt another rib snap as he'd hit the wall.
Kye get up and move.
It was to late. The dragon slammed one of it feet down on Kye causing him to let out a cry of pain. With an evil grin the dragon turned to look at Hunter. "What's the matter Hunt-" he stop and fear flashed in his eyes when he saw Hunter coming towards him.
