“Oh… Yeah…” Sterling sighed, rubbing at his forehead. “Sorry I brought it up. I wasn’t thinking about that, I guess.”
“Oh… Yeah…” Sterling sighed, rubbing at his forehead. “Sorry I brought it up. I wasn’t thinking about that, I guess.”
“It’s fine,” Eden forced a smile on her features as she started washing the dishes. “It doesn’t matter.”
Sterling frowned and touched her cheek gently. “You sure you’re okay? I’m here if you want to talk about something, you know,” he murmured.
Eden leaned into his touch, her smile softening. “I’m okay,” she assured him. “And I know you are. That’s one of the things I lo—like about you. You’re always here.”
“Always,” Sterling promised with a small smile. He swept a kiss across her brow before pulling back. “I’ll get the table set up while you finish up here? And then I’ll come help you if I finish before you do.”
“All right,” Eden hummed as she began to soap up the dishes. “Go, then. I’ll be done by the time you finish up.”
Sterling kissed her cheek again before grabbing two plates and forks and bringing them to the table. He finished setting the table, complete with maple syrup and butter for the pancakes, then made his way back to Eden in the kitchen.
“Ready?” he asked, leaning against the counter beside her.
Eden was just finishing up the last dish when Sterling came back. She smiled at him, setting the dish away to dry.
“Ready,” she hummed as she wiped her hands. “Come on, then.”
A mischievous glint appeared in Sterling’s eyes, and as soon as Eden had dried her hands, he was bending down and wrapping his arms around her legs. He chuckled as he carried her over to the table, setting her down on top of it.
“Ready to try my not-so-famous pancakes?” he asked, grinning at her playfully.
Eden let out a startled squeal when he wrapped his arms around her legs, lifting her up. Her own arms wove around his head, pressing his face against her, hers burning. Then he was setting her down on the table and she released a breath.
“You…” she breathed slowly, “Could have warned me before doing that!”
Sterling chuckled and leaned in to peck her lips. “I could have, yes. But where’s the fun in that, hm?” he teased.
“You jerk,” she grumbled, her fingers fisting his hair. “Hot jerk. Just eat.”
“There are much sweeter things I’d rather taste than pancakes, sweetheart,” Sterling declared in a low voice, leaning forward with his hands resting on her waist. His gaze dropped to her lips before meeting hers again, his head tilting in an unspoken question.
Eden shivered at his words, cheeks heating up. She hiccuped again, her eyes falling on his lips. “Well,” she breathed, pulling his head closer, wrapping her legs around his waist loosely. “Then take what you want.”
Sterling’s eyebrows shot up at the hiccup, and he smirked before a chuckle pushed past his lips. “You do hiccup when you’re flustered. Don’t you?” he questioned, pressing his lips to the corner of her mouth. “That’s adorable.”
Eden glared at him, though another shiver ran through her.
“I do not,” she scowled, though she knew he’d realized. She had really stupid tells. “You have three seconds to kiss me, Ainsley, or else I’m pushing you away. One…”
“Oh, you definitely do, beautiful,” Sterling chuckled.
Right before the three second we’re about to be up, he tugged her closer and pressed their lips together. The kiss was soft and hard and gentle and rough all at the same time. He was gentle enough to not scare her, but rough enough that she would feel his desire for her. His lips were pressed against hers hard, but soft enough that it wouldn’t hurt.
A gasp escaped her lips at his sudden move. His lips were pressed against hers, kissing her like he hadn’t done before. He was careful and gentle, but rough and passionate at the same time. She immediately kissed him back, her arms around his neck, fingers tightening her hold on his hair. The legs she had around his waist tightened, pulling him closer to her.
God, she really, really loved it when he kissed her like that. Like she was the only person that mattered. Like kissing her was breathing to him. As if she was as important as oxygen. And she loved it.
Sterling kissed her for a while before pulling back just long enough to breathily murmur against her lips, “I really, really like you, Eden McArthur.”
“Good,” Eden breathed against him, pulling his mouth back on hers. “Otherwise, this wouldn’t have worked.”
Sterling chuckled and pulled away again, his gaze dropping back to the food. “We should eat… I’m sure my lips will taste much sweeter with syrup dripping from them, don’t you?” he asked as he met her eyes, his own holding a teasing light.
Eden shuddered, shaking her head to gather her bearings. “You forgot,” she said flatly, though there was a teasing glint in her eyes as well. “The only time I like the syrup is when it’s on your lips.”
Sterling smirked and pecked her lips again softly before stepping back. “Then let’s get some on them so you can taste it,” he murmured back with a wink as he took his seat.
Eden rolled her eyes, though her legs were trembling. She hopped off the table to take her seat when she noticed who was sitting on it. She scowled.
“You’re sitting on my seat,” she pointed at him, “Even if you’re my boyfriend, you can’t sit on my seat.”
Sterling cocked an eyebrow and looked up at her. He leaned back some, giving her an amused smile. “Then come sit in my lap.”
“That isn’t the same as me sitting on my seat,” her eyes fell on his lip, “Even though that’s mine to sit on, too.”
Sterling chuckled, licking his lips when he noticed her gaze on them. Shaking his head, he stood and gestured dramatically to her seat. “Then please, have at it.”
Eden flicked her hair, walking to her seat and sitting down.
“Why, thank you, slave,” her eyes twinkled, “You may take your seat as well.”
Sterling snorted and took his seat across from her. “You, my queen, are incredibly dramatic sometimes,” he teased, picking up his fork and taking a bite of pancake.
Eden rested her head in her arms on the table, smiling back at him. “Of course,” she chuckled. “How else would I keep you amused?”
