“Eh, it’s our own assignment,” Blaine said with a wave of her hand. “But yes, I know it’s not an actual assignment.”
“Eh, it’s our own assignment,” Blaine said with a wave of her hand. “But yes, I know it’s not an actual assignment.”
"I know, I know, I'm just teasing," Andion nudged her gently, "Hopefully we'll actually be able to get a meeting with the prince…"
Blaine nodded her agreement. “Yes, hopefully. We’ll need to make a backup plan if we can’t.”
“I mean we could break in and force him to have a meeting with us but I don’t think he’d enjoy it that much.” Andion said.
Blaine laughed a little and shook her head. “No, no, I don’t think he would. I don’t think that would get us where we need to go, either.”
"You make a valid point, my dear," Andion sighed and chuckled, "I'm sure we'll figure something out. Even if it means making friends with the uptight courtiers."
“Ooh, courtiers. They may be uptight, but at least they’re rich. And some are handsome,” Blaine teased Andion with a wink and chuckle.
Andion pouted, pretending to act offended by her statement, "Wow okay, I see how it is then. Why don't you just get with one of them then?"
“Now, why would I do that when I have you? I doubt they could live up to my standards, other than being rich, of course,” Blaine laughed.
He snorted, shaking his head a little, "You're unbelievable sometimes, I hope you know that. But it's fine because I love you."
Blaine chuckled. “Of course I know that, and you’d better love me. We would have some serious things to talk about if you didn’t.”
"Oh don't worry, I know. And I am not ready for that talk but luckily it'll never happen so there's no need to worry about it."
“Good,” Blaine said with a nod. “Now, come on, really. We’ve got to hurry and get to the ball!”
The walk to he castle wasn’t a long one and it seemed a lot of people were already heading there themselves. The day seemed to have passed quickly as the sun was setting over the horizon coating the city in oranges, pinks and purples. There were guards at the entrance ways, checking everyone as they came in and making sure no weapons were entering the grounds.
Blaine always wished she had her bow with her, but this was one instance she was glad she didn’t. If they’d had any weapons on them, they wouldn’t be allowed inside, which would ruin the whole mission. They would have had to come up with an entirely new plan…
Once the two assassins were let inside, the sound of music and laughter filled the halls. There were guards leading groups of people to the ball room, the golden light filling the room tremendously. People were dancing gracefully in the middle of the too large room, others were chatting about something or another to the sides and right at the front, sitting above everyone else in clothing that probably cost more then Andion and Blaine and ever earned, was the royal family.
Blaine blinked at the amount of gold and jewels adorning the royal family as they stepped into the room. “Oh wow,” she breathed.
Andion on the other hand, frowned a little. He'd never agree with the amount of power royals had and seeing it made it worse, "Yeah, wow indeed…"
“Do you think they’ll pay us in gold when this is over?” Blaine asked in a murmur, smiling as if she was simply enjoying the party.
"Possibly. Depends if we actually do anything useful to help them. I mean telling them about an assassination plot should qualify." Andion replied quietly, accessing the room for possible exists if need be.
“And we could help them plan to prevent it,” Blaine pointed out as her gaze scanned the crowd for anything suspicious or out of place.
"Maybe they'll hire us to protect them.. if we tell them who we are. I doubt they'll let just some random foreigners help make a plan of protection." Andion replied.
Blaine snorted. “Could you imagine that conversation, though? ‘Hey, yeah, we’re here to tell you that there’s a plot to assassinate you. How do we know? Oh, we used to work for them.’”
Andion chuckled softly, "Yeah, the conversation wouldn't go well. Let's just hope that if we do have to have that talk it goes well."
“We can only hope,” Blaine said before her eyes caught on the tables of food and drinks. “Can we try the food? Oh, what if it’s poisoned and that’s how they’re assassinating the prince?”
“Blaine… we were the ones trying to assassinate the prince. Unless Thranion sent someone else to make sure we did our job correctly so I think the food is fine.” Andion kissed her cheek, placing a hand on the small of her back as he led her over to the table.
Blaine rolled her eyes. “I’m not stupid, Andion. I just figured they would have sent someone else when we didn’t show up. They like to be thorough.”
“I know,” Andion sighed, “For all they know, we’re going through with the plan and nothing’s changed. If they hear he’s still alive in a week then well, they’d send someone. Thranion trusts us, which in this case is a good thing.”
“Okay. Then we have a week to sort this out. Let’s hope we don’t need even that long,” Blaine said, glancing around the room again when they reached the table of refreshments.
The table was filled with all types of exotic and familiar foods. Different pastries and nibbles, large bowls of drinks, fruit platters, bread, all sorts to cater for all sorts of people, "Hopefully if we get a meeting tonight or for tomorrow we should have it sorted. And be able to warn him of future attacks."
