“I will,” Arvil called out after her, heading off to the front door. God, he was totally entranced by her, wasn’t he?

He locked the door behind him, a chuckle escaping his lips again, head shaking.

Daisy rolled onto her back and stared up at the ceiling, sleep having left her after that. Arvil Davis… What an absolute tease he was. She had never once even dreamed of meeting him, much less being engaged to the man. And then she was going to be married to him, even if it was only for long enough to convince her parents that they meant it. And even though they didn’t really love each other…

It would be okay, though. He had promised to make this wedding the wedding of her dreams. Anything she wanted, she could have. He at least cared for her that much. And that was all she could ask for.

[TIME SKIP: A FEW DAYS]

Today, Arvil and Daisy were supposed to be testing cakes. Arvil was okay with whatever cake they got—he liked all flavors. Ice cream cakes were his favorite, but that was another story. Daisy was supposed to drop by his office before they left together, and she would be coming anytime soon.

Now, there was a slight problem…

“Whoa, you killed it already!” a little boy exclaimed, slapping his small hands on the table, a wide grin on his features. He swung his tiny legs before he looked up, soft black hair framing his forehead, black eyes wide with wonder. “Uncle, you’re awesome!”

Arvil chuckled, kissing the top of his nephew’s head. “You wanna have a go, little man?”

The mini version of him merely gasped and grabbed the keyboard, engaging into a battle with the same low-level boss he had fought against.

Daisy had dressed up a bit for the occasion, putting on a flowing, light pink dress and twisting her hair into a half-up bun. She even switched out her glasses for contacts, though she hoped it wasn’t a bad idea. She rarely ever wore contacts, and she might fall asleep with them in if she forgot she was wearing them.

Nevertheless, she was confident as she made her way into the building Avril worked in, smiling at employees on her way up. Once she reached Arvil’s door, she knocked and listened for his voice. Along with it, she was surprised to hear a smaller voice. Like… like that of a child…

Who was with her fiancé?

“All right, Cam, you got it,” Arvil encouraged his nephew when he was interrupted by a knock on the door. He blinked before a smile made its way to his lips. The little boy, having lost the round, pouted and looked up at her uncle.

“Come on in,” he called, his arms tightening around the boy.

Daisy stepped into the room and immediately saw the little boy in Arvil’s arms. She blinked, tilting her head curiously.

“Arvil? Who’s this…?” she asked as she took a step closer. As far as she knew, the man didn’t have any children. He would have told her if he did… Wouldn’t he?

Arvil suddenly had a mischievous thought. His nephew was an exact copy of him, which gave him a rather fun idea.

“Hello, Daisy Darling,” he greeted her, standing up with the boy in his arms. “Meet Cameron, your future stepson.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Daisy blinked slowly, looking between the boy and her fiancé. “Funny. Now who is he really?” she drawled, crossing her arms. “Because you would have told me if you had a son, and I’m sure that I would have seen him in the time that we were together. And I’m sure there would have at least been pictures of him around. And it would have been in the news. None of which have I noticed.”

Deleted user

“Okay, first of all, why would I have an illegitimate son running around on the news?” Arvil quirked an eyebrow, though he was satisfied with his future wife. And Cameron was being a good little child, keeping quiet as he looked between him and Daisy. “And I was simply waiting for the right time to bring it up. And you’ve never been to my house, so… no pictures. Besides, do you see any picture frames around of my family, darling?”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Daisy’s eyes narrowed as her nostrils flared a bit, her arms crossing to hide the slight shaking. He was messing with her. That was all. He was just playing with her because he knew he could. And he probably wondered if it made her jealous of the woman who he would have had to have been with. It didn’t. Not at all. The thought was definitely not turning over and over in her mind. Not at all…

“Arvil…” she breathed, meeting his eyes. Her own had any emotions carefully concealed, hiding what she truly thought or felt from him. “Not. Funny.”

Deleted user

Arvil felt a little disappointed at the lack of emotions on her features. Did she really not care? The fact that he could have a son… with a woman who wasn’t her—did she not care? At all?

“Look between him and me,” Arvil continued calmly. “Don’t we look nearly identical? He has my eyes, too. Doesn’t he?”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

“Who is he?” Daisy choked out again, her grip on her arms tightening. Pale spots grew where her fingers dug into her arms, her nails biting into her skin. “Arvil… I’m serious. If you don’t tell me the truth, I will go home, and we will have to reschedule the tasting for a day when you haven’t managed to piss me off.”

Deleted user

Arvil winced. Damn it. Had he taken it too far? She was getting angry now, and that wasn’t… that wasn’t how it was supposed to go.

“Okay, I’m sorry,” Arvil immediately apologized, not wanting her to stop talking to him. “He’s my sister’s son. My nephew. Just—don’t leave. I’m sorry.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Daisy nodded, looking away and digging the heels of her hands into her eyes. “Good… Good, thank you,” she breathed as she leaned against the wall. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have responded like that, but— You can’t do that. You cannot spring something like that on someone. Especially not when we are supposed to get married soon. I can’t— I’m not ready for that. Not yet. Please don’t do something like that again.”

Arvil sighed, kissing the top of Cameron’s head and murmuring something in his ear before he set him on the desk. He walked over to Daisy next and gently wrapped his hands around her wrists.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered, giving her a gentle squeeze. “I didn’t think you’d react like that. I won’t joke like that again. I promise.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Daisy froze momentarily when she felt his presence nearing and then his hands on her wrists. She nodded again, letting out a slow breath.

“Okay… Okay, thank you… Thank you,” she murmured, pulling her hands from her eyes and looking up at Arvil. Her gaze flickered over his face, maybe lingering a split second longer on his lips, before she finally met his eyes. “Are we bringing him to the tasting?”

Deleted user

If she didn’t care… why was she bothered so much? God, she confused him sometimes. Her eyes flickered to his lips and Arvil felt his mouth dry out. Why was she looking at his lips? Then her eyes found his again and he released a breath he didn’t know he was holding.

“Yeah. Skylar, my sister, and her husband needed to be somewhere and this guy wanted to be with me, so… I hope you don’t mind,” he said that last part quietly. “He’s well-behaved. I promise.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Daisy shook her head and looked over at the boy. “I don’t mind. I’m sorry. I really overreacted, but… you scared me,” she admitted softly, still watching her fiancé’s nephew. “We should get going soon…”

Deleted user

“I didn’t think of that scenario. I really should understand my types of jokes aren’t yours,” he released a breath and rather hesitantly, kissed the top of her head. “Yeah, let’s go.”

He walked back over to Cameron, who still couldn’t look away from Daisy.

“C’mon, little man,” Arvil hefted him up, a smile on his features as he kissed his cheek. “Cam, that lovely woman over there is my future wife, your aunt, Daisy. Say hello.”

Cameron blinked before a shy smile took over his lips. The boy was a chatterbox, so energetic, but was extremely shy in front of strangers. It was adorable. “Hello…”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Daisy blinked at the kiss Arvil gave her, but she didn’t blush, surprisingly. And then he let go of her and walked over to his nephew. When he walked over with the boy in his arms and introduced them, Daisy gave the boy a small smile.

“Hello, Cameron,” she said softly, reaching a hand out to him palm up. “Do you give high-fives? Because they’re pretty cool, huh?”

Cameron looked at Daisy’s hand before he looked up at his uncle. Arvil quirked an eyebrow, making a face at him and Cameron frowned. Finally, he pressed his hand against Daisy’s.

“Uncle told me you were pretty,” he said, blinking before he smiled wider. “He was right!”

“Okay, I have said nothing to you, you little charmer,” Arvil lied, tickling him. “He’s just trying to get in your good graces, love.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Daisy chuckled and shook her head. “Are all the men from your family like this? And thank you, Cameron. I’m glad you think so,” she said, giving his hand a small squeeze before releasing it. “Do you like cake? Do you want to help us find a good flavor for the wedding?”

Deleted user

Arvil snorted, pressing his nephew closer to himself. “Why do you think all of us are handsome?” he teased. “No, it’s just me. I’m one of a kind.”

Cameron took his hand back, his eyes glimmering excitedly. “I love cake,” he answered enthusiastically. “But I can’t eat a lot of sweets. Mom says they ruin my teeth.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

“Well, your mom is a very smart woman and totally correct, but you’re not going to eat too much cake. Just a few bites,” Daisy assured the little boy. She smiled down at him even as she ignored her fiancé’s statement.

Cameron wrapped his arms around his uncle’s neck, smiling back at the woman.

“All right, let’s go,” he said, already making his way to the door and opening it. He turned back to face Daisy. “C’mon, Darling. Move it.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Daisy huffed and rolled her eyes, though her smile was still present on her lips. She followed them quietly, making funny faces at Cameron while Arvil wasn’t looking.

At Cameron’s laughter, Arvil stopped walking and furrowed his eyebrows. He turned around, just in time to catch Daisy fixing her expression. He let a smirk take over his lips.

“Oh, don’t let me interrupt you,” he teased. “Just be careful of who you show the tongue to, darling.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Daisy coughed, her face heating up as she looked away. “Really?” she choked out, pressing her cold fingers to her cheeks. Right now? He really had to do that right now?

Arvil chuckled and turned his head away, assuring his nephew that Aunt Daisy was not sick at all.

“Are you making faces at her, too?” he hummed, paying his red-faced crush no attention. “Because you should. Make her laugh, kiddo.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Daisy shook her head and gave the little boy a small smile. “I’m all right, Cam. Just need some water. I’m sure the lady at the front desk will be able to get me a bottle, right Arvil?”
