“Cool, cool. Let’s go see if they have any,” Sterling declared as he tugged her long excitedly.
“Cool, cool. Let’s go see if they have any,” Sterling declared as he tugged her long excitedly.
He was so adorable, Eden thought with a chuckle. Like a puppy. He was so endearing. “Hey, hey, you’re going to make me trip on my feet!”
“Then shall I give you a piggyback ride?” Sterling suggested with a playful look. “It would be faster, don’t you think?”
“I think that would take a longer time,” Eden stammered, her cheeks flaming. “Wouldn’t it?”
“No… No, why would it?” Sterling asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Because you’d be carrying me,” Eden answered softly, still flustered.
Sterling hummed and shrugged. “So? Who says I can’t run or walk as fast with you on my back as I can without?” he questioned with a playful grin.
“Me?” Eden replied, crossing her arms over her chest, nervousness piling into her. Was he really considering doing that, or was he just joking? Eden didn’t know what she wanted. If he wasn’t joking, then to be on his back meant to have his hands on her legs to keep her lifted. Even if it was Sterling, she didn’t know if she could handle it without the nausea slapping her in the face. “Don’t you get slower the more things you carry?”
Sterling crinkled his nose. “Well, true, but you wouldn’t slow me down that much,” he said, kissing the top of her head. “Do you want to?”
Why do you have to ask me that…? In this situation, she would have been more than happy to not get a choice. She didn’t want to upset him. But he would be either way—from her ‘no,’ or from the way her body would respond to his touches.
“I think I’m good,” Eden scrunched her nose playfully. “I don’t want you tiring out quickly.”
Sterling hummed, nodding slowly. “Okay. That fine,” he assured her with a kiss to her temple. “Cookies, right?”
Eden smiled, grateful for her understanding boyfriend. “Thank you,” she whispered. “And yes, cookies for my puppy.”
“If I’m a puppy, then I can’t eat cookies,” Sterling said with a playful pout at her.
“Oh,” Eden furrowed her eyebrows. “Fair point. Then you should stop acting like a puppy, Sterling.”
Sterling chuckled softly and gave her a gentle squeeze. “Well, then I suppose I shall. I want my cookies, after all.”
“Or you could continue acting like a puppy,” she whispered, stepping closer to him, standing on her toes to pat him on the head. “And be a special one that can eat cookies. You’re already special, so you’ve passed that round.”
Sterling laughed and grabbed her hand. He pressed a kiss to it, flicking his tongue out playfully before pulling away. “I’ll try to refrain from covering you in excited puppy kisses, then.”
Eden laughed, her eyes twinkling in happiness. “That sounds like a plan,” she chuckled. “I prefer excited Sterling kisses than the puppy ones.”
“Aw, you don’t like your face being licked?” Sterling laughed again, pressing kisses to her cheek and head.
Eden squeezed her eyes shut as he peppered her with kisses, laughing quietly. “I have a cat, Sterling, who makes sure to lick or kiss me whenever he’s being affectionate.”
“Puppies like to lick faces, too, you know,” Sterling chuckled, moving his kissing toward the front of her face.
Eden cupped his face in her hands as he moved to direct his kisses to the front of her face, and pressed their lips together briefly. “There,” she muttered when she pulled away. “Much better.”
Sterling laughed and pecked her on the lips again. “All right, all right. I guess I should stop now, huh? We’re probably making people pretty uncomfortable.”
Eden snorted, pinching his nose. “You think?” she teased, already feeling the weight of her trauma washing away. “You certainly know how to charm a woman, don’t you?”
“Hey!” Sterling exclaimed, grabbing her hand. He pressed a kiss to her palm before letting it go and wrapping an arm around her. “Yeah, of course I do. I am the infamous Sterling Ainsley, am I not?”
“Yes, yes, you’re the narcissist, Sterling Ainsley,” Eden leaned into him, still teasing him. “Ah, there’s the restroom right there. I need to use it.”
“All right. I’ll wait out here for you, then,” Sterling said with a smile, kissing the top of her head before letting her go.
“All right,” Eden kissed his cheek before she walked into the ladies restroom, clutching her bag tightly in her hand.
Evelyn Joseph was many things. She was smart, she was intelligent, and on top of that, she was pretty. With her slender figure and large, round eyes, it was easy for Evelyn to get any man she wanted.
In her case, she wanted Sterling Ainsley. She had him once and she let him go. She wanted him again—she never stopped wanting him. So when she heard he was here, in Orlando… well, she just had to visit. She hadn’t found him.
Yet.
So when she was strolling through the park on the weekend, trying to enjoy herself on her little vacation… when she caught sight of a familiar male, her heart kickstarted.
Sterling Ainsley.
A smile made its way to her lips. Perfect She fixed her dress and walked over to him.
“It’s been a long time,” she said, softening her eyes, her voice gentle. “Sterling.”
“It’s been a long time, Sterling,” a familiar voice said from behind him.
Sterling clenched his jaw and let out a breath as he turned around slowly. He narrowed his eyes at the woman in front of him, his eyes drifting over her dismissively.
“Evelyn. What a… pleasant surprise,” he muttered, sticking his hands in his pockets. “What are you doing here?”
Evelyn winced when he swept his eyes over her before turning away as if she was nothing to him. She crossed her arms over her chest, honey-brown eyes dropping.
"I got a break from school and decided to visit," she answered softly. "You look well, Sterling. I'm glad. I didn't think I would run into you again."
