The rat stared threateningly at Alice. Alice stared back with as much intimidating energy as she could muster.
They'd been locked in this staring contest for 20 years now… or it might've been 20 seconds. Neither one of them could tell.
(don't worry about it, answer when you can)
Samantha rocked back and forth within her cell, her back against the wall farthest from the iron bars. Her thoughts were repeated over and over, like a metronome.
Tick tock, that's the clock.
Ding dong, this is all wrong.
Scream scream, this isn't a dream.
Tick tock…
It was the only thing Sam could do that brought her the closest to sanity as it could bring her, which wasn't much, but then again, at least she wasn't screaming.
Guards came around, each standing at their designated door. The head officer stood in the middle, shining a light into the rooms "All right guys! Breakfast!" Each guard set down a plate and slid it through the small hole in the door. The food wasn't even a tasting. It consisted of loaf ends, rotten fruit and brown gravy. "Eat up, then out to the courtyard. Alice I swear to God, you eat that rat, I'm going to feed you all the rats I can find for the next 10 years."
Kenna snorted, but ignored the food. Her previous meals lay on the floor next to it, only a few bites taken from each.
Alice looked up wildly when the guard called her out. "WELL," she screeched at the light, crawling forward towards the door and the fresh plate of food. "That sounds delicious," she said sweetly through the door.
One of the guards snickered "She's way down the rabbit hole." He muttered
"Hey! enough talking!" the main officer growled, striding out of the room to let the patients eat
Alice fell onto the ground on her stomach and started eating breakfast, barely noticing what she was swallowing. It was probably best that way.
She observed the prisoners around her through the slit in the door, occasionally making eye contact, occasionally sticking out her tongue.
Nathan stares at the food. He starts to eat, not really paying attention to what he ate.
Rashe scooted over and started to eat the best he could. He peered through the little opening and saw Alice making faces "hows the flip side, Wonderland?" he asked with a quirky grin
Samantha stares at the tray. She noticed they changed the material from plastic to metal after her previous attempt to hurt herself, to escape this prison. Nevertheless, she ate only about a third of the meal presented to her.
Kenna heard sounds of eating all around and gagged. How could they eat it?
Nathan pushes the tray back next to door, trying his best to not vomit.
(I'm officially idea-less…)
A countdown started on the loudspeakers "3…2…1…all patients, make you're way to the courtyard. Disruptions or violent occurrences will result in consequences." A guard stood near the front, there to guide anyone who would stray. All doors clicked open at once
Nathan quietly walks out to the courtyard, staring at the guards like always. He keep his hands behind him, keeping his head down.
Sam, after sitting for a good minute, stood and went out to the courtyard, her hands folded in front of her. She remained silent in the courtyard, and it wasn't even close enough to freedom as it should be, at least to Samantha.
Rashe scooted over and started to eat the best he could. He peered through the little opening and saw Alice making faces "hows the flip side, Wonderland?" he asked with a quirky grin
"It's the heaven of a heathen," Alice grandly announced rolling onto her back to face the moldy celling.
Alice jumped her feet following the announcement, matted hair bouncing all over the place.
Picking up her tunic like it was ballgown, she inched out into the hall and was quickly swept along with the rest of the crowd.
Rashe laughed hysterically and followed everyone else out to the courtyard, taking his normal spot at a table near the back, sitting up on the table and setting his feet on the bench.
