"And she can't be here because…"
"And she can't be here because…"
"The window through my eyes is in the forest," Lorelei said as if it were obvious.
"What?" Raeden was heavily confused. "I don't even wanna know, do I?"
"Rather confusing," Lorelei agreed. Her hand twitched. "Aza will be back soon, but will also be extremely exhausted."
"Okay. We'll watch TV or something." Raeden thought out loud.
Lorelei gave a last smile and then blinked rapidly as if trying not to cry. It was Aza again, and she threw herself at Raeden, wrapping her arms around him. "Rae!" she cried and buried her face in his shoulder.
"Aza!" Raeden breathed a sigh of relief. "Hey. Hey, you're okay."
She hugged him tighter, breathing in his scent. It was comforting.
"Can I ask what happened?"
"I died again," she replied and hiccupped a little.
"Oh, darling," Raeden squeezed Aza closer. "It's okay. You're here. I'm here. You're fine. I promise. You need more oreos?"
"No, no I'm okay," she said and relaxed into Raeden's arms.
"Okay." Raeden whispered. "You wanna watch more Danganronpa?"
"Yeah. Yeah, that'd be nice," she said softly and turned to watch the show.
"Okay. That's what we'll do." Raeden nuzzled Aza against his chest, promising he wouldn't let go.
Aza felt her eyes close and she drifted to sleep, snoring softly.
Raeden thought about moving Aza to the bedroom. He then realized she'd probably freak, so he would stay there. Soon enough, Rae started to drift off. He forced himself to stay awake, though, in case Aza needed.
(time skip?)
(sure)
Aza sat at lunch the next day, leaning back precariously in her chair. The seat next to her was empty; it had been, ever since Emily…since the incident.
Raeden saw an empty seat next to Aza. He began to walk towards the table, hoping she'd let him sit there.
Aza looked up from her phone(she was drawing digital art) and saw Rae. "Rae!" she chirped. "Pull up a chair. That's Emily's chair. She isn't here yet." Aza pointed to the chair and put her phone and stylus on the table.
"Oh, okay!" Raeden snatched a chair and sat next to Aza. "Hey!" He cooed, kissing her forehead.
"OOOH, Az, you didn't tell us you got a man!" the kid across the table whooped.
Aza sighed. "Rae, meet Mav. He-"
"She," Maverick corrected.
"She," Aza amended. "Is the computer and science genius of this table."
Mav leaned back and put her feet up on the table, flashing her red hi-tops. She saluted sarcastically to Raeden.
"Hey, Mav! Good to meet you." He waved awkwardly, not knowing what to say.
"Gender-fluid," Maverick nodded. "Now. This," she said, pointing to the brown-skinned girl next to her, "Is Layla. She's the history and language geek."
Layla smacked Maverick's arm playfully. "Am not!"
Maverick thwacked her back and pointed to the pale, skinny girl next to Aza and said, "This is Ames, the math genius."
Ames smiled softly and gave Rae a small wave.
"Got it, thanks Mav. Hey, Layla and Ames! I'm Rae, he/him work great for me, I guess."
Mav crossed her ankles and pointed finger-guns at Rae. "So. What's the deal with Az's man?"
"Well, I'm Rae, I'm a science geek, and I really hate spiders. I'm peanut intolerant, and I'm in love with Aza." Rae listed off, keeping a straight face.
Layla whistled. "In love?" She rapped her fingers on the table. "That's extreme."
