Arvil felt intense relief when she wrapped her arms around him and squeezed. Even more so when she chuckled.
“It feels longer,” he murmured, breathing her in again. “I realized what I did wrong that day.”
Arvil felt intense relief when she wrapped her arms around him and squeezed. Even more so when she chuckled.
“It feels longer,” he murmured, breathing her in again. “I realized what I did wrong that day.”
Daisy stiffened at his words, but she didn’t pull away. Not yet…
“Oh… Yeah?” she mumbled.
“It was a misunderstanding, Daisy,” he tightened his hold on her, not wanting her to pull away. “I didn’t initiate it. I didn’t even want it. You just came at a wrong time. I wanted nothing to do with her.”
This time Daisy did pulled away, though slowly. She sighed and rubbed at her face before looking back up at him. “Then why didn’t you say anything before?”
“I don’t know,” Arvil admitted, crossing his arms to prevent himself from pulling her back in his arms. “I didn’t think there was any point anymore.”
“If you had explained it to me,” she began softly, shaking her head and, albeit reluctantly, turning away, “then maybe we wouldn’t be in this position…”
“You didn’t want anything to do with me,” Arvil reminded her gently. “And you never told me what I did wrong. An employee told me.”
Daisy chewed on her lip, still avoiding his gaze. “I’m sorry about that… I just— I saw her kissing you, and… I don’t know…” she murmured softly, shaking her head. “Sorry.”
Arvil’s eyes went back to her mouth as she chewed on her lip, finding it hard to remove his gaze. He managed to do so, but with much difficulty.
“Were you jealous?” He teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes to mask the desire. “Don’t be. You’ve set a high standard for other women.”
Daisy rolled her eyes even as she realized that she was, in fact, jealous.
Jealous? Really? She was jealous… of someone else kissing Arvil…
“Good. Glad to know I’ve set the standard for anyone else you might want to be with,” she said with a small smirk.
Arvil smirked back.
“How can one set the standard for themselves, I wonder?” He mused to himself, his tone light and teasing.
Daisy scoffed, ignoring the pink tint that was barely visible on her cheeks. “Easily. Past self to future self. If you’ve gotten worse at something, use your past self as a standard.”
Arvil grinned at her before he frowned, lifting her chin up with his finger to look at her in the eyes.
“Have you not been sleeping well?” He quirked an eyebrow.
Daisy blinked twice, surprised. That was a bit random… “I— What? Why?” she stuttered.
Arvil’s thumb traced the spot below her eyes, a distant look in his eyes.
“You’ve got slight circles under your eyes,” he responded. “They weren’t there before. Have you not been sleeping well?”
Daisy’s blush deepened immediately. She pulled away, rubbing her hot cheek. “I had a rough couple of weeks…”
“Did you miss me?” Arvil poked at her red cheeks, trying not to stare too much. She was flustered. Why? “Was that it?”
Daisy’s eyes shot back to his, meeting them again. She raised her eyebrows as she pursed her lips, glaring at him silently.
“I missed you, too, Daisy~” Arvil purred, winking. When she glared harder, he laughed. “I’m kidding! I missed your glares, too. They make me feel loved.”
Daisy huffed and stepped away. She might seem upset, and maybe she was a little, but it was mostly because he was right. She had missed him, like she’d said.
“Are we done now?” she questioned, rolling her eyes. “Or were you going to tease me more?”
She was just plain adorable when she looked upset. It caused Arvil to chuckle again, more so after her comment.
“Hey, I haven’t teased you in over a month,” he said, pointing to her. “Let me have my fill.”
Daisy snorted, shaking her head. She gave him a slightly amused look, but that was all. Just because they were back together again didn’t mean she would be laughing at him quite yet.
Arvil looked at her again before smiling softly.
“I missed you,” he murmured, searching her eyes. He had said that once, but it wasn’t enough. He had missed her like crazy.
Daisy glanced at him again, looking him over before giving him another tiny smile. “Yeah… You said that,” she said, smirking teasingly.
“I know,” Arvil chuckled. “I just wanted to say it again. Why, can’t I?”
Daisy sighed, shaking her head slowly. Her smirk dropped back into a somewhat sad smile as she met his eyes. “I missed you, too, nerd.”
“That’s hot nerd for you, writer,” Arvil chuckled, shaking his head. What was up with that sad smile? He wanted to see a happier one. “I guess I should be going now.”
“Oh, sure. I’m sure you've got a lot of work at the company,” Daisy said, nodding. “I’ll see you later, I guess. We could meet for lunch? Or I could bring it to you? Like before…”
“You could bring it to me,” Arvil suggested softly. “Just like old times. Give the employees a heart attack, too. It’ll be fun.”
Daisy chuckled a little. “Yeah, I’ll do that. Think Noah would be happy to see me?”
